Book Synopsis Human Chromosome Atlas by : Claudia Behrend
Download or read book Human Chromosome Atlas written by Claudia Behrend and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-27 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in its second edition, this atlas serves as an easy-to-use diagnostic guide for the analysis of the human karyotype. Split in four parts, it starts with a comprehensive introduction covering the molecular cytogenetic basics, the role of ethic committees and international quality control in the field of diagnostics. The main parts II and III show the spectrum of different types of chromosomal abnormalities by a combination of karyogram and ideogram. They compare the significance of different banding techniques, give the karyotype formula and describe morphological peculiarities of each case presented. The final part provides a detailed description of non-coding DNA variants and focuses on potential problems in the detection of aberrations. It also mentions necessary additional investigations and peculiarities to be considered when counselling carriers of a chromosomal aberration or their relatives. Given its comprehensive scope and practical approach, this atlas is an indispensable resource for researchers, clinicians and practitioners working in the field of cytogenetics and clinical genetics.

Book Synopsis Oral Manifestations of Inherited Disorders by : Heddie O. Sedano
Download or read book Oral Manifestations of Inherited Disorders written by Heddie O. Sedano and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oral Manifestations of Inherited Disorders focuses on inherited systemic disorders presenting oral manifestations that have been reported as an integral part of the disorder. This book discusses some inherited conditions affecting only calcified dental tissues. Organized into seven chapters, this book begins with an overview of the distinctive pattern of signs and symptoms that enable the clinician to make a diagnosis. This text then examines the hereditary defects in enamel. Other chapters consider the characteristics of acroosteolysis. This book discusses as well the oral structures in patients with Apert syndrome. The final chapter deals with the condition of beard-headed dwarfism, which is characterized by low birth weight, dwarfism, microcephaly, mental retardation, and beak-like appearance of the mid-face. This book is a valuable resource for those professionals interested in the malformation syndromes and in the oral manifestations of inherited disorders. Clinicians, geneticists, dentists, and physicians will also find this book useful.
Book Synopsis Normal and Abnormal Fetal Face Atlas by : Jean-Marc Levaillant
Download or read book Normal and Abnormal Fetal Face Atlas written by Jean-Marc Levaillant and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas offers a guide to studying the fetal face by means of ultrasound analysis. It describes key phases in cranial-facial development, allowing the reader to learn the related semiology from its most simple iteration to the most complex one. The overall examination of a newborn’s face offers a rich source of information and can guide the general examination. The same applies in the context of fetal ultrasound examination. The analytical study of the fetal face not only makes it possible to screen for anomalies related to the face itself, but also yields valuable insights into the brain, the limbs, and the heart. In addition, it allows ultra-sonographers to unravel the puzzle of fetal dimorphism. Written in a pedagogical style, the book guides walks the reader through the diagnostic reasoning process step by step. The authors are pioneers in this field and teach in various university and master’s degree ultrasound programs. Their aim is to share with readers their diagnostic approaches and their knowledge and passion for 2D and 3D ultrasound techniques. Each chapter includes algorithms, biometry curves, and simple guidelines that allow users to go “from sign to syndrome”. The first chapter, which focuses on innovative embryology adapted to the needs of ultra-sonographers, was written by Gérard Couly, a maxilla-facial surgeon and the founding father of the specialty>
Book Synopsis The Person Behind the Syndrome by : Greta Beighton
Download or read book The Person Behind the Syndrome written by Greta Beighton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A decade after the publication of The Man Behind the Syndrome, which was warmly received, particularly by medical geneticists, syndromologists and those doctors from many different dis ciplines with an interest in medical history, Peter and Greta Beighton now present the second volume of their work, promised ten years ago. The length of time which has passed since the pub lication of the first book gives an inkling of the extraordinary effort involved on the part of the authors in collecting the necessary biographical data and the portraits of their subjects. The Person Behind the Syndrome conforms exactly in structure, quality and size with the first volume, thus facilitating the use of the series. Again we find detailed presentations of a hundred people who have given their names to disorders or syndromes which are thought to have a significant genetic or chromosomal component (with a photograph or portrait, biography, com mentary on the development of nomenclature and references). The reader finds information not only on the doctor and/or scientist under discussion, but also, as in the previous volume, on the person behind the name. This is followed by brief, un illustrated biographies of about seventy, mostly younger and, in some cases, still professionally active personalities.

Book Synopsis Dermatological Atlas of Indigenous People by : Marcos Cesar Florian
Download or read book Dermatological Atlas of Indigenous People written by Marcos Cesar Florian and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-07 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skin diseases are highly prevalent among indigenous people, leading to low mortality but greatly impacting their quality of life. Such diseases can be observed in indigenous people; both those living in isolated communities and those who have since been urbanized to some degree share a common characteristic of presenting different clinical patterns than non-indigenous individuals. These specificities necessitate a special approach when diagnosing dermatologic diseases in indigenous people. However, these considerations are rarely discussed in standard dermatology books. This Atlas addresses that gap by providing specific materials for professionals involved in the health of indigenous people, especially with those who live either alone or in remote areas. It offers a comprehensive overview of the most common skin diseases in specific tribes, providing a full clinical guide on the dermatologic signs and symptoms in these individuals. Additionally, the book complements the clinical standpoint with an anthropologic perspective, examining the impact of dermatologic diseases in indigenous people and the different meaning of these diseases in their lives. Most of the material presented in this Atlas was collected in the Xingu Program, a project created in 1965 by the Federal University of São Paulo, Brazil, and devoted to providing medical care to indigenous people from the Upper Xingu region, in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Thus, the content is primarily applicable to South American indigenous people. However, the common characteristics of the isolation and non-urbanization of these communities, as well as the anthropologic perspective adopted here, allow the content to be extrapolated to other indigenous peoples worldwide. This Atlas will be a novel and valuable resource for health professionals who work with indigenous peoples, especially in geographic areas where dermatologists are not always readily available.
