Olivia and her friend, Elspeth, set out late at night to catch a rumored demon in their net and send it home. Instead, they catch a man. Lord Derek Durham, Marquis of Durnhaven, walks the park late at night and alone. Since the day of the fire, when half his face was disfigured, it's the only way and time he'll ever venture outside the walls of his mansion. It is Olivia's nature to rescue every person or animal in need, and Derek's need is great. No matter his resistance, she will not rest until she sees him happy and restored. Olivia never expected to fall in love. Neither did Derek.

Book Synopsis Medieval Mystical Women in the West by : John Arblaster
Download or read book Medieval Mystical Women in the West written by John Arblaster and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-07-18 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the rich and varied mystical writings by and about medieval – and a few early modern – women across Western Europe. Women had a profound and lasting impact on the development of medieval and early modern spiritual and mystical literature, both through their own writing and as a result of the hagiographical texts that they inspired. Bringing together contributions by both established and emerging scholars, the volume provides a valuable overview of medieval mystical women with a special focus on the Low Countries and Italy, regions that produced a disproportionately high number of female mystics. The figures discussed range from Hildegard of Bingen, Hadewijch, Mechthild of Magdeburg, Marguerite Porete, Angela of Foligno, Julian of Norwich, and Beatrice of Nazareth to lesser-known women such as Agnes Blannbekin, Christina of Hane, and Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi. The chapters address topics such as the body, pain, desire, ecstasy, stigmata, annihilation, virtue, visions, the tension between exterior and interior experience, and the nature of mystical union itself.

Book Synopsis Have Mercy on Me by : Glenna Jackson
Download or read book Have Mercy on Me written by Glenna Jackson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2002-12-01 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Matthew's gospel begins and ends with the Jewish-Gentile debate, and at the heart of both the issue and the gospel is the story of the Canaanite woman. It is a story that reveals tension between Jews and proselytes in Matthew's community and responds to the question, 'What must one do to be a member of the community'? This study focuses on the stereotype of the woman as a Canaanite as well as Matthew's sources and the form of the story. The conclusion is that the story reflects a reinforcement of Jewish law that allows gentiles to attain membership in the Matthean community, thus continuing the Jewish tradition that allows gentiles into the faith.

Book Synopsis Toddler and Parent Interaction by : Anna Filipi
Download or read book Toddler and Parent Interaction written by Anna Filipi and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2009-12-17 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a microanalysis of the interactions between four children and their parents starting when the children were aged 9 to 13 months and ending when they were 18 months old. It tracks development as an issue for and of interaction. In so doing, it uncovers the details of the organisation of the sequence structure of the interactions, and exposes the workings of language and social development as they unfold in everyday activities. The study begins with a description of pre-verbal children’s sequences of action and then tracks those sequences as linguistic ability increases. The analysis reveals a developing richness and complexity of the sequence structure and exposes a gap in Child Language studies that focus on the children’s and their carers' actions in isolation from their sequential environment. By focusing on the initiating actions of both child and parent, and the response to those actions, and by capturing the details of how both verbal and nonverbal actions are organised in the larger sequences of talk, a more complete picture emerges of how adept the young child is at co-creating meaning in highly organised ways well before words start to surface. The study also uncovers pursuit of a response, and orientation to insufficiency and adequacy of response, as defining characteristics of these early interactions.
