A good deal of experience in teaching the average beginner has convinced me that, while there are several text-books suitable for the use of the more advanced student or of a novice who has the advantage of personal tuition, the majority are either too prolix or too condensed for one who is compelled to be his own instructor. Moreover, Astrology is now to some extent in the melting-pot: on the one hand, many new ideas are being introduced; on the other, statistical research, such as earlier astrologers could not carry out for lack of sufficient data, has cast considerable doubt on the validity of portions of the rather incoherent mass of tradition that till recent years represented astrological science. The beginner does not wish to be confronted with controversial matters, however attractive he may find them later. He requires, firstly, a statement of what may be regarded as known astrological facts; and secondly, an explanation as to how these facts affect human life. It is this that I have aimed at giving him. An endeavour is made not to neglect the theoretical aspects of Astrology, for the modern student dislikes what appear to him as isolated statements, and looks for a logical and synthetic aspect to our teaching, without, of course, wishing to plunge at the outset into metaphysical speculation. I trust that the Index will be of considerable use in practice, since it should enable the student to find readily those passages that deal with any matter that may trouble him. Finally, I would express my sincere hope that this book may be of some value in assisting its readers to grasp something of the true nature and worth of astrological science, both in the commonest and the most sublime aspects of human life. Those who have realized what this may mean to the individual are reluctant to set any bounds to their estimate of the beneficial effects that its universal recognition, in a proper form, would mean to the human race. Contrasting with the dense sample horoscope pointers, lighter strokes are used in presenting certain less well understood astrological symbols. Did you know that the secret to the Water Bearer may not primarily be the bearer but the utensil he holds? No matter one's background, the reader will emerge with new and surprising insights into the zodiac, this old manual for the way things are or should be. The book contains a condensed account of the cosmology around year 1, closely related to the Cardinal Vices and Virtues – themes running like a thread throughout the book. These chapters also require keeping one's wits to hand, but for good measure some light-hearted (though not frivolous) studies are also thrown in the pot. Like a fun but also slightly sad analysis of a number of so-called glamour models, their horoscopes and how these account for the way the models describe their work publicly. Not for many hundred years have the zodiac signs rung so true! There is also a chapter on the Nobel Prize laureates in literature that segues into one on Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford and convincingly shown by competent researchers to be the most likely author behind the nom de plume Shakespeare. This may be also the first book ever that seriously tries to show crummy political views to be a function of poor birth omens. This author subscribes to Plato's view that only high-caliber people, evolved above the animal instincts like greed and lust should be allowed to helm a country. It will become more and more obvious as you read this one-of-a-kind book that there really is only one ideology for the world-to-come (Age of Aquarius) that is in harmony with the sanatana dharma, the eternal and moral world-order. This unusual book has been composed with at least three types of reader in mind. It contains enough orientation for an astrological novice while simultaneously catering to the needs of the more advanced student. It also addresses the skeptic, while all the while in fact being an apologetic for… philosophic idealism! Is it really possible to squeeze all this into five-hundred pages? Read the book and judge for yourself. You'll be the richer for it.

In fact, it is possible to transpose on the Celestial Sphere the traditional teachings about the higher states of being. The influence of the various parts of Heaven that colors the stars differently according to the various phases of their precessional cycle is one of the important things which is entirely unknown to modern astrologers, and was known only to the initiates of the most remote antiquity. It confirms the existence of a "secret" initiatory astrology, very different and much more useful and profound than that commonly practiced. The ascension to the higher states of being - up to the Supreme State - can take place only along the lines of the colures. This supreme state is represented by the point of intersection between the two colures, represented by the North Pole. As we will see in the course of the book, in order for this ascension to take place, it is necessary that there are stars along the colures, corresponding to various states of being that are like so many stations that one must pass through. At the same time, they are similar to vehicles that can transport us higher and higher. The higher the northern declination of the stars, the higher the state of being they represent, not because of their own nature, but because of the part of Heaven in which they are located The more one rises along the northern sky, the more one enters into a subtle and etheric dimension, which, precisely for this reason, can be inaccessible or traumatic for those who are not ready to get rid of the ego and the sense of corporeality. These ascensions also require the presence of one or more planets along the colures themselves. In fact, our first means of transport to detach ourselves from the earth will surely be one or more planets, since we cannot directly identify ourselves with the very high state of consciousness corresponding to a star. We will talk about all this in a very technical and in-depth way, including some examples. And we will do so after demonstrating how these particular stellar factors were well present and active in the periods when the greatest turning points in the history of human spirituality occurred. We shall thus examine the stars of the Buddha and those of Pythagoras, of Moses and Jesus, and much more. There are many clues that suggest that in the Commedia Dante described in the allegorical form a "stellar journey" very similar to the one we describe in this work. It is no coincidence that Dante concludes each cantica with the word "stars," and it is no coincidence that the last verse of each cantica is isolated, in the sense that it is not part of a triplet like all the others. All this must have a precise meaning because a medieval and sapiential poet like Dante did not do anything by chance or for simply "poetic" reasons. It is likely that Dante had access to initiatory knowledge about some traditional techniques of ascension to Heaven through the stars, and that is why he included in his poem so many references to the stars, closing each poem with an isolated verse ending with the word "stars". In Dante's time, the North Star was located on the equinoctial colure, and it is from the North Star that we will start to discover this secret message…
