Book Synopsis Radon Measurements by Etched Track Detectors by : S. A. Durrani
Download or read book Radon Measurements by Etched Track Detectors written by S. A. Durrani and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exposure to radon gas, which is present in the environment naturally, constitutes over half the radiation dose received by the general public annually. At present, the most widely used method of measuring radon concentration levels throughout the world, both in dwellings and in the field, is by etched track detectors ? also known as Solid State Nuclear Detectors (SSNTDs). Although this is not only the most widely used method but is also the simplest and the cheapest, yet there is at present no book available on the market globally, devoted exclusively or largely to the methodology of, and dealing with the results obtained by, the SSNTD technique. The present book fills this important gap in the coverage of radon measurements. Individual chapters of the book are contributed by some of the most prominent and active research workers in the world in the SSNTD discipline as well as in the field of radon measurements. A detailed breakdown of the contents of the book is shown below together with the name(s) of the author(s) of each chapter.

Book Synopsis Field Studies of Radon in Rocks, Soils, and Water by : Gundersen/Wanty
Download or read book Field Studies of Radon in Rocks, Soils, and Water written by Gundersen/Wanty and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-11-30 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Field Studies of Radon in Rocks, Soils, and Water focuses on the principal sources of indoor radon and detecting radon through geochemical and hydrological studies of ground water. The book addresses how to measure radon, covers geological field study techniques, and presents techniques for assessing radon potential. The geochemical and hydrological studies of ground water cover such areas as health effects and radionuclides in geology. Techniques for measuring radon in ground water are also provided. Field Studies of Radon in Rocks, Soils, and Water is an excellent practical guide for geologists, geochemists, ground water professionals, and geophysicists interested in radon. Features
Book Synopsis Radon, Health and Natural Hazards by : G.K. Gillmore
Download or read book Radon, Health and Natural Hazards written by G.K. Gillmore and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2018-05-01 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume draws together the final outputs of the five-year UNESCO/IUGS/IGCP Project 571 and presents new data on radon in the built and natural environments, radon as a diagnostic tool of geophysical phenomena, reflections and recommendations on the future of radon research and a critique of radon's asserted use as a therapy. By considering all the aspects of radon as a health hazard and potential indicator of natural hazards, the project brought together the dispersed research (from universities, governmental and non-governmental bodies as well as commercial companies) on radon within an interdisciplinary context to facilitate scientific advancement and understanding. Through the establishment of working groups at regional and local levels and the development of research networks, a variety of international meetings were organized and a number of journal special issues published to disseminate the results. The scale of the project was global: scientists from over 20 European countries, plus countries in the Americas, Asia and the Middle East have been participants of the project. This volume results from UNESCO/IUGS/IGCP Project 571 `Radon, Health and Natural Hazards'. Radon has significant socio-economic relevance in the developed and developing worlds, primarily in terms of the indoor radon hazard but also certain geohazards. This volume presents a broad range of papers including methodological, technological and interpretative aspects, as well as case-study material. This volume results from UNESCO/IUGS/IGCP Project 571 `Radon, Health and Natural Hazards'. Book Synopsis Geological Hazards in the UK by : D.P. Giles
Download or read book Geological Hazards in the UK written by D.P. Giles and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2020-06-09 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The UK is perhaps unique globally in that it presents the full spectrum of geological time, stratigraphy and associated lithologies within its boundaries. With this wide range of geological assemblages comes a wide range of geological hazards, whether they be geophysical (earthquakes, effects of volcanic eruptions, tsunami, landslides), geotechnical (collapsible, compressible, liquefiable, shearing, swelling and shrinking soils), geochemical (dissolution, radon and methane gas hazards) or georesource related (coal, chalk and other mineral extraction). An awareness of these hazards and the risks that they pose is a key requirement of the engineering geologist. The Geological Society considered that a Working Party Report would help to put the study and assessment of geohazards into the wider social context, helping the engineering geologist to better communicate the issues concerning geohazards in the UK to the client and the public. This volume sets out to define and explain these geohazards, to detail their detection, monitoring and management and to provide a basis for further research and understanding.

Book Synopsis Radon: A Tracer for Geological, Geophysical and Geochemical Studies by : Mark Baskaran
Download or read book Radon: A Tracer for Geological, Geophysical and Geochemical Studies written by Mark Baskaran and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-11 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews all the major research accomplishments and summarizes the different applications of radon. It serves as a solid reference book for researchers who are interested in the U-series radionuclides and noble gases as tracers and chronometers. Radon has been widely utilized as a powerful tracer to quantify a number of processes that include gas exchange rates between air and water, submarine groundwater discharge in coastal waters, water exchange between rivers and lakes, ocean circulation, hydrocarbon and uranium exploration. It is also used as an atmospheric tracer for the identification and quantification of air masses and as a tool for earthquake prediction, etc. A significant portion of the book presents state-of-the knowledge on indoor-radon-related health issues. Applications of the decay-series of Rn-222 are presented in a chapter. It serves as a reference and a state-of-the-art resource for researchers who want to learn the different applications of radon in Earth systems.
