Book Synopsis Review of the Space Communications Program of NASA's Space Operations Mission Directorate by : National Research Council
Download or read book Review of the Space Communications Program of NASA's Space Operations Mission Directorate written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-02-16 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Space Communications Office (SCO) at NASA has two primary roles. The first is to manage two of the communications networks that enable spaceflight operations and research, and the second is to integrate agency-wide telecommunications issues. In 2005, NASA asked the NRC to review the effectiveness of the SCO in carrying out its responsibilities by assessing the overall quality of the space communications program. This report presents a review of each of the program elements within the SCOâ€"the space network, NASA's integrated space network (NISN), spectrum management, standards management, search and rescue, communications and navigation architecture, technology, and operations integration. The review focuses on formulation of plans for each element, plan development methodology, connections with the broader community, and overall capabilities. Recommendations for improving SCO operations and organization are provided.

Book Synopsis Deep Space Communications by : Jim Taylor
Download or read book Deep Space Communications written by Jim Taylor and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-08-16 with total page 679 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DEEP SPACE COMMUNICATIONS A COLLECTION OF SOME OF THE JET PROPULSION LABORATORY’S SPACE MISSIONS SELECTED TO REPRESENT THE PLANETARY COMMUNICATIONS DESIGNS FOR A PROGRESSION OF VARIOUS TYPES OF MISSIONS The text uses a case study approach to show the communications link performance resulting from the planetary communications design developed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). This is accomplished through the description of the design and performance of six representative planetary missions. These six cases illustrate progression through time of the communications system’s capabilities and performance from 1970s technology to the most recent missions. The six missions discussed in this book span the Voyager for fly-bys in the 1970s, Galileo for orbiters in the 1980s, Deep Space 1 for the 1990s, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) for planetary orbiters, Mars Exploration Rover (MER) for planetary rovers in the 2000s, and the MSL rover in the 2010s. Deep Space Communications: Provides an overview of the Deep Space Network and its capabilities Examines case studies to illustrate the progression of system design and performance from mission to mission and provides a broad overview of the mission systems described Discusses actual flight mission telecommunications performance of each system Deep Space Communications serves as a reference for scientists and engineers interested in communications systems for deep-space telecommunications link analysis and design control.

This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Assessment of the Communications Technology Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology: Fiscal Year 2019 is an independent technical assessment of the quality of the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST's) Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL). It reviews the organization's technical programs, the portfolio of scientific expertise within the organization, the adequacy of the organization's facilities, equipment, and human resources, and the effectiveness by which the organization disseminates its program outputs. This report focuses on CTL priority areas such as public safety communications, trusted spectrum testing, and Next Generation Wireless (5G and Beyond). It also assesses the extent to which CTL applied the recommendations from a 2015 National Academies' report, which describes many of the critical uses of radio communications, provides lab-specific recommendations, and highlights important research priorities for the Boulder, Colorado communications technology laboratory of the Department of Commerce laboratory. This new report also describes the current activities of the Boulder telecommunications laboratories, its strengths and weaknesses as an organization, and its plans for the near future

Book Synopsis Domestic Satellite/h by : Robert S. Magnant
Download or read book Domestic Satellite/h written by Robert S. Magnant and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-03-07 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a society where as much as 50 percent of the gross national product is spent on information transfer services, trends in communications policy and capabilities become extremely important and can have major consequences. During the past ten years, the Federal Communications Commission has made a major effort to promote competition and innovation in the telecommunications industry. But, in order that public interests be identified and adequately served, there must be a wider understanding of the industry and the issues. Robert Magnant takes full account of the multidisciplinary nature of the telecommunications field, and in this book presents an objective treatment of technological trends, policy issues, and market constraints. His study has been designed to provide intelligible, easily accessible information for the legislator, the business leader, the concerned citizen. It deals with the specific area of telecommunications, but in its complete coverage of a major domestic policy issue, it is at the same time an excellent case study to illuminate the intricacies and options in the formulation and operation both of general government and business policy and, more specifically, regulated market structures.
Book Synopsis Innovations in Satellite Communications and Satellite Technology by : Daniel Minoli
Download or read book Innovations in Satellite Communications and Satellite Technology written by Daniel Minoli and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-03-16 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surveys key advances in commercial satellite communications and what might be the implications and/or opportunities for end-users and service providers in utilizing the latest fast-evolving innovations in this field This book explores the evolving technical options and opportunities of satellite networks. Designed to be a self-contained reference, the book includes background technical material in an introductory chapter that will serve as a primer to satellite communications. The text discusses advances in modulation techniques, such as DBV-S2 extensions (DVS-S2X); spotbeam-based geosynchronous and medium earth orbit High Throughput Satellite (HTS) technologies and Internet applications; enhanced mobility services with aeronautical and maritime applications; Machine to Machine (M2M) satellite applications; emerging ultra HD technologies; and electric propulsion. The author surveys the latest innovations and service strategies and the resulting implications, which involves: Discussing advances in modulation techniques and HTS spotbeam technologies Surveying emerging high speed aeronautical mobility services and maritime and other terrestrial mobility services Assessing M2M (machine-to-machine) applications, emerging Ultra HD video technologies and new space technology Satellite communication is an integral part of the larger fields of commercial, television/media, government, and military communications, because of its multicast/broadcast capabilities, mobility, reliability, and global reach. High Throughput Satellites) are expected to revolutionize the field during this decade, providing very high speed, yet cost-effective, Internet access and connectivity anywhere in the world, in rural areas, in the air, and at sea. M2M connectivity, enabled by satellite communications, connects trucks on transcontinental trips, aircraft in real-time-telemetry aggregation, and mercantile ships. A comprehensive analysis of the new advances in satellite communications, Innovations in Satellite Communications Technology is a reference for telecommunications and satellite providers and end-users, technology investors, logistic professionals, and more.
