Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coal will continue to provide a major portion of energy requirements in the United States for at least the next several decades. It is imperative that accurate information describing the amount, location, and quality of the coal resources and reserves be available to fulfill energy needs. It is also important that the United States extract its coal resources efficiently, safely, and in an environmentally responsible manner. A renewed focus on federal support for coal-related research, coordinated across agencies and with the active participation of the states and industrial sector, is a critical element for each of these requirements. Coal focuses on the research and development needs and priorities in the areas of coal resource and reserve assessments, coal mining and processing, transportation of coal and coal products, and coal utilization.

Download or read book Washability Examinations of Colorado Coals written by A. W. Deurbrouck and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Bureau of Mines report describes the washability characteristics of 13 coalbed samples collected in Colorado. Such data are needed to evaluate the quality of the coals of the West, where most of our low-sulfur-content coal reserves are found. Of the 13 samples included in this report, 11 had a total sulfur content of 1 percent or less. All of the samples contained low percentages of ash or could be readily washed to a desirable ash level with minimal loss of yield. The coals ranged in rank from high-volatile A bituminous to subbituminous B; nine of the samples were high-volatile C bituminous. The coalbeds ranged in thickness from 6 to 26 feet; the average was about 8.
