Book excerpt: The purpose of this naturalistic study was to examine the importance of collaboratively examining student work at the high school level. Using an Adapted Tuning Protocol, participants examined student work in a formal setting to determine if the collaborative examination of student work had an impact on future instructional delivery, future student work products, and the role self-reflection played in the process. The study utilized a student work survey completed by 51 teachers in a suburban high school in south central Pennsylvania, reflective journals written by six teacher participants, and a final one-on-one interview between the six teacher participants and the researcher. The study provided information that the formal collaborative analysis of student work does have a positive impact on future instructional delivery and future student work products. An overwhelming majority of the participants found the collaborative examination of student work had an impact on future instructional delivery, and the creation of future student work products.
