L'objectif est d'estimer la contribution de la circulation automobile aux émissions de CO2 et de polluants locaux à l'horizon 2020. Les analyses exploitent les données du panel Parc Automobile de la Sofres (observations annuelles sur la période 1984-2008). L'examen de l'évolution de l'âge moyen montre que ce dernier subit un viellissement d'ordre structurel. Le calibrage d'une famille de lois de survie paramétriques montre une hausse continue de la duréee de vie des véficules. La durée de vie médiane, estimée par ajustement d'une loi de Weibull sur des taux de survie transversaux gagne près de 4,6 années en passant de 8,6 ans pour la période 1984-1987 à 13,2 ans pour la période 2004-2008. La hausse de la durée de vie des véhicules est expliquée par le multi-équipement des ménages, la diésélisation croissante du parc automobile et par une relative hausse de la robustesse des véhicules. Cette hausse de la durée de vie des véhicules particuliers vient s'ajouter à la relative stabilité du volume des immatriculations des véhicules neufs observée depuis deux décennies pour expliquer la croissance du solde naturel ainsi que le vieillissement du parc. Une régression de Poisson nous permet de confirmer la supériorité de svéhicules à moteur diésel en matière de durée de vie ainsi que l'effet négatif de la hausse du kilométrage annuel sur cette dernière. Enfin, sur la base de nos résultats concernant les lois de survie du parc, nous présentons un modèle stylisé de projectionde la structure du parc à l'horizon 2020 suivant deux scénarios contrastés de diffusion de véhicules hybrides et électriques. A partir de chaque scénario de parc, des projections d'émissions sont menées à l'horizon 2020 à l'aide du logiciel Copert IV.
