Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book describes the drainage basin as a system unit resulting from the interaction between runoff and topography - a lengthy process of evolution that occurs according to well-defined laws. It aims not to quantify the agents which created the present forms, but to analyse the forms themselves in order to establish the laws according to which they develop, and to define a series of inter-relationships between morphometrical parameters and river discharge.

Book Synopsis Drainage Basin Dynamics by : Pravat Kumar Shit
Download or read book Drainage Basin Dynamics written by Pravat Kumar Shit and published by Springer. This book was released on 2023-01-16 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a versatile introduction to the study of drainage basin evolution, morphology, drainage basin hydrology and sedimentology, human interference, natural and anthropogenic hazards and various management techniques. This book offers the responsible factors of sediment yield and their absolute and specific growth and rate of delivery through tributaries to the main streams. Rivers are important geomorphic agents which reflect an amazing variety of form and behaviour, showing the wide range of natural environment in which they are originated. The drainage system evolution and spatial network development within the dynamic nature are being discussed and how they are adjusted in the geomorphic time scale over the millions of years. This book shows how drainage systems function and react to change and why this thoughtful is required for flourishing integrated basin management. In tropical and sub-tropical countries population pressures as well as different developmental projects are being executed on the drainage basin without proper planning. Today scientists consider drainage basin as an administrative unit during implementation of regional projects. In this context this book will carry a bench mark for scholars and young scientists.

Book Synopsis Arctic Climate Impact Assessment - Scientific Report by : Arctic Climate Impact Assessment
Download or read book Arctic Climate Impact Assessment - Scientific Report written by Arctic Climate Impact Assessment and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-11-07 with total page 1053 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Arctic is now experiencing some of the most rapid and severe climate change on earth. Over the next 100 years, climate change is expected to accelerate, contributing to major physical, ecological, social, and economic changes, many of which have already begun. Changes in arctic climate will also affect the rest of the world through increased global warming and rising sea levels. Arctic Climate Impact Assessment was prepared by an international team of over 300 scientists, experts, and knowledgeable members of indigenous communities. The report has been thoroughly researched, is fully referenced, and provides the first comprehensive evaluation of arctic climate change, changes in ultraviolet radiation and their impacts for the region and for the world. It is illustrated in full color throughout. The results provided the scientific foundations for the ACIA synthesis report - Impacts of a Warming Arctic - published by Cambridge University Press in 2004.

Book Synopsis Experimental Study of Drainage Basin Evolution and Its Hydrologic Implications by : Randolph S. Parker
Download or read book Experimental Study of Drainage Basin Evolution and Its Hydrologic Implications written by Randolph S. Parker and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental study was undertaken to document the evolution of a drainage basin and to identify hydrologic changes. A 9 by 15 m facility was built and filled with a homogeneous mixture of sand, silt, and clay. A sprinkling system was established along the sides of the container, and it provided four intensities of rainfall to the nearly 140 sq. m drainage basin. Two experiments were performed each of which documented the evolution of the drainage system on gently sloping surfaces. The initial conditions (relief and initial surface slope) of each experiment were different, and these initiated differences in the mode of network growth. Nevertheless, during both experiments drainage patterns evolved through the sequence of network initiation, extension of the network to maximum extension, and, finally, to abstraction. Sediment yields from the basin undergoing erosional evolution show an exponential decline with time. This overall trend is characterized by high variability. Hydrographs generated as basin evolution progressed suggest that runoff produced by lower precipitation intensities is most influenced by the geomorphology of the basin. The ratio of peak discharge to the equilibrium discharge shows a dramatic increase during early basin development. The efficiency of the hydrologic response, appears to increase to a maximum as drainage density and/or relief increases. Further increases in drainage density do not increase the efficiency of the hydrologic system. (Author).

Book excerpt: Gravel-Bed Rivers: Processes, Tools, Environments presents a definitive review of current knowledge of gravel-bed rivers, derived from the 7th International Gravel-bed Rivers Workshop, the 5-yearly meeting of the world’s leading authorities in the field. Each chapter in the book has been specifically commissioned to represent areas in which recent progress has been made in the field. The topics covered also represent a coherent progression through the principal areas of the subject (hydraulics; sediment transport; river morphology; tools and methods; applications of science). Definitive review of the current knowledge of gravel-bed rivers Coverage of both fundamental and applied topics Edited by leading academics with contributions from key researchers Thoroughly edited for quality and consistency to provide coherent and logical progression through the principal areas of the subject.
