This book was released on 2003-06-30 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A topical selection of papers from a July-August 2001 conference in Ontario on the biogeochemistry of trace elements in general, has been augmented with contributions invited from researchers well versed in coal and the byproducts of its combustion. In the resulting 22 articles, scientists in the earth and environmental sciences, engineering, mathematics, and other disciplines from a number of countries consider the environmental impact of coal combustion residues, trace elements in fly ash, the transport and leachability of metals from coal and ash piles, and using coal as an agricultural soil amendment. Some of the chapters are double spaced. Annotation (c)2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).

Book Synopsis Circular Economy and Fly Ash Management by : Sadhan Kumar Ghosh
Download or read book Circular Economy and Fly Ash Management written by Sadhan Kumar Ghosh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-25 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a number of innovative uses of fly ash. Fly ash is a fine powder that is a byproduct of burning pulverized coal in thermal power plants. It is a pozzolan – a substance containing aluminous and siliceous material that when mixed with lime and water forms a compound similar to Portland cement. Though fly ash was a problem in terms of its disposal, it now has a variety of uses, such as a prime material in blocks, bricks, and PCC paving, and further applications are being investigated. As such, the recovery and reuse of fly ash wastes plays an important role in the implementation of the circular economy concept. Featuring selected, high-quality research papers presented at IconSWM 2018, the book provides valuable insights for the recycling industries, power plants, researchers, and governments.
Book Synopsis Development of Geopolymer from Pond Ash-Thermal Power Plant Waste by : Muktikanta Panigrahi
Download or read book Development of Geopolymer from Pond Ash-Thermal Power Plant Waste written by Muktikanta Panigrahi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DEVELOPMENT OF GEOPOLYMER FROM POND ASH-THERMAL POWERPLANT WASTE Explains how geopolymer technologies using industrial waste obtained from thermal power plants become cementitious materials in construction sectors for civil engineers. Utilization of waste materials has become a global challenge since they endanger our environment. In this book, the authors demonstrate how to utilize fly ash/pond ash (waste materials from thermal power plants) to produce a novel material called ‘Geopolymer’ (GP). Red mud, slags, etc., are mixed with fly ash to produce GP with enhanced strength. As shown in a few European countries, GP can replace cement, and some permanent structures constructed with GP are now appearing in a few advanced countries. GP, and geopolymer concrete, is considered suitable for the construction of roads, buildings, etc., and will eventually, fully or partially, replace cement. The book highlights the mechanism of the formation of GP from pond ash. Properties of structures made with GP concrete are found to be comparable to those made with cement concrete. Systematic investigations are presented to understand the chemistry of GP formation with pond ash materials. Performances of these materials above ambient temperature, as well as with different environmental conditions, are also evaluated.

Book excerpt: Two peoples have been fighting over the same land for a thousand years. Invaders crushed the original inhabitants, and ancient powers have reluctantly given way to newer magics. But Ember was to change all this with a wedding to bind these warring people together - until her future goes up in flames. Ember's husband-to-be is murdered by a vengeful elemental god, who sees peace as a breach of faith. Set on retribution, she enlists the help of Ash, son of a seer. Together they will pit themselves against elementals of fire and ice in a last attempt to end the conflicts that have scarred their past. They must look to the present, as old furies are waking to violence and are eager to reclaim their people.

Book Synopsis Properties of Self-Compacting Concrete with Coal Bottom Ash Under Aggressive Environments by : Mohd Haziman Bin Wan Ibrahim
Download or read book Properties of Self-Compacting Concrete with Coal Bottom Ash Under Aggressive Environments written by Mohd Haziman Bin Wan Ibrahim and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-22 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the importance of incorporating coal bottom ash (CBA) into self-compacting concrete exposed to aggressive conditions. The incorporation of CBA in concrete is a sustainable strategy to prolong the lifespan of concrete. The content of the book is also regarded as a solution to the environmental issue. It helps academics, researchers, and students to acquire a better understanding of the influence of coal bottom ash on the properties of concrete through four sequential chapters. The book first presents background information on concrete deterioration, and then the improvement in properties of self-compacting concrete with different percentages of CBA exposed to tap water, sulphate solution, chloride solution, and seawater.
