Book excerpt: On November 28, 1864, James Allen was born in Leicester, England. Allen's father travelled to the United States in 1879 in search of ways to rescue his failing stocking knitting business and support his family. He also planned to live there. Sadly, he was probably killed before his family could come and join him. James Allen quit school and began working because his family was struggling financially. Like his father before him, he started out as a knitter for frames. Then, until his retirement, he worked as a private secretary. He wed Lily Louisa Oram in 1895. Their daughter, Nora, was later born.

Download or read book Can the Black Man Rule Himself? written by Kwame A. Insaldoo and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2006-03-06 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you sincerely believe in your heart that the black man is mature enough to govern himself, his institutions, and his nations? There is virtually no doubt that many black people are as brilliant as sunshine, and perform excellently when given opportunities in white institutions, but when they are left to govern themselves, the results have been chaos, confusion, destructions, excessive corruption, and sheer abuse of valuable resources meant for their populace. If you doubt these assertions, look across the periphery of black nations, and what do you see? You see civil strife in nations like the Ivory Coast, Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Sudan; you see proliferation of pandemic diseases like AIDS and malaria; You see unacceptable crime rates in nations like Jamaica, South Africa, Nigeria, and many others; you see grinding poverty, hunger, and hopelessness in nations like Haiti, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Uganda; you see mayhem and absolute lawlessness in places like Somalia, and of course do not forget the recent carnage in Rwanda, the amputations of legs and arms, and senseless mass rapes of innocent young girls by drunken soldiers in places like Sierra Leone and Liberia. This book discusses the political situation of selected countries governed by the black man, and reveals the problems of governance, mismanagement, excessive corruption, kleptomaniac behavior, and various abuses of the ruling class, and the resulting grinding poverty, hopelessness, diseases, and civil unrest in these nations. These problems are fueling the mass exodus of essentially economic refugees from these nations to the Western countries. This book discusses how ruthless, selfish, and egomaniacal leaders are destroying their countries by sowing the seeds of anarchy, and then turning around and throwing sand in the eyes of their populace by blaming the Central Intelligence Agency and other Western intelligence networks for the coups, civil wars, assassinations, and chaos and the resulting poverty in their nations. The author concludes by suggesting that the World Bank, which holds most of the loans of these nations, can be empowered to help manage the revenues of these nations for the betterment of their entire societal development, which will benefit the vast majority of the needy, the helpless, the diseased, and those caught in the mire of grinding poverty.

Book excerpt: Dorothy Jean Hulst, a free-lance writer, had as one of her favorite books As A Man Thinketh, by James Allen. In this short volume, Allen expressed his belief that an individual, through the power of positive thought, forms their character and consequent happiness. Hulst was inspired by the content of Allen's book but tired of the mental exercise required to substitute feminine equivalents for masculine terms. Using a pencil, she crossed out all masculine references, replacing them with feminine words. The result, As A Woman Thinketh, allows women to identify directly and personally with Allen's concepts.

Download or read book As You Think written by James Allen and published by New World Library. This book was released on 2010-09-24 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1904, a relatively unknown Englishman named James Allen wrote a little book called As a Man Thinketh. The book has become one of the world’s greatest self-help books — “self-empowerment” is a better term — for it not only reveals to us that the keys to success are within our own minds, it shows us how to use these keys to unlock the greatest fulfillment we can imagine. In this revised edition, author and publisher Marc Allen updates this classic, changing language that has become dated or obsolete, and honing the clarity of the message. He makes As You Think gender inclusive, showing how these principles are truly universal and apply to everyone, regardless of sex, age, race, beliefs, social class, or education. As You Think is a simple yet powerful reminder that “all we achieve and all that we fail to achieve is the direct result of our own thoughts.” We are the masters of our destinies.

Download or read book Sentiments and Reflections of a Black Man written by Clint B. Walker and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-05-26 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book of poems were written in the attempt to get Gods message out, I had a heavenly encounter with God and was taken out of body, mind or spirit I can not really tell which but I know it was for the purpose of uniting all people for the common good. Some of these poems deals with secular life and some are written from a more spiritual venue but as Jesus use parables to explain the good and bad of our actions so have I been instructed to do as well. When we dabble in things that has no profi t only destruction then there is an equal reaction to all actions. These words are the inspired works of God and will truly bless all that read them. They will offer inspiration, courage, guidance and wisdom. If the reader keeps an open mind and let the Holy spirit talk to their subconscious: Gods words do not go away into the void but they accomplish what they are sent out to accomplish. This book will have a universal appeal to all its readers and will give all readers a greater insight into the mind of the author whom happens to be a black man, but more important a child of God. Its purpose is to unite all races to come together as one people. There is no difference between the Jew and Greek, bond nor free, for whosoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. I profess we all are whosoever, whether red, yellow, black, brown or white, we are all precious in Gods sight. Read these poems with an open mind and a receptive heart and I guarantee you will be truly blessed by reading them as I was blessed by writing them. May God bless all of his children with good health, happiness and prosperity, is my hearts desire and prayer.
