Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artificial intelligence (AI) is a dynamic field that is constantly expanding into new application areas, discovering new research challenges and facilitating the devel- ment of innovative products. Today’s information overload and rapid technological advancement raise needs for effective management of the complexity and heteroge- ity of knowledge, for intelligent and adaptable man–machine interfaces and for pr- ucts and applications that can learn and take decisions by themselves. Although the mystery of human-level intelligence has just started to be uncovered in various int- disciplinary fields, AI is inspired by the respective scientific areas to explore certain theories and models that will provide the methods and techniques to design and - velop human-centered applications that address the above-mentioned needs. This volume contains papers selected for presentation at the 5th Hellenic Conference on Artificial Intelligence (SETN 2008), the official meeting of the Hellenic Society for Artificial Intelligence (EETN). Previous conferences were held at the University of Piraeus (1996), at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2002), at the University of the Aegean (2004) and at the Institute of Computer Science at FORTH (Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas) and the University of Crete (2006).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book mainly discusses the most important issues in artificial intelligence-aided future networks, such as applying different ML approaches to investigate solutions to intelligently monitor, control and optimize networking. The authors focus on four scenarios of successfully applying machine learning in network space. It also discusses the main challenge of network traffic intelligent awareness and introduces several machine learning-based traffic awareness algorithms, such as traffic classification, anomaly traffic identification and traffic prediction. The authors introduce some ML approaches like reinforcement learning to deal with network control problem in this book. Traditional works on the control plane largely rely on a manual process in configuring forwarding, which cannot be employed for today's network conditions. To address this issue, several artificial intelligence approaches for self-learning control strategies are introduced. In addition, resource management problems are ubiquitous in the networking field, such as job scheduling, bitrate adaptation in video streaming and virtual machine placement in cloud computing. Compared with the traditional with-box approach, the authors present some ML methods to solve the complexity network resource allocation problems. Finally, semantic comprehension function is introduced to the network to understand the high-level business intent in this book. With Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), 5th Generation Wireless Systems (5G) development, the global network is undergoing profound restructuring and transformation. However, with the improvement of the flexibility and scalability of the networks, as well as the ever-increasing complexity of networks, makes effective monitoring, overall control, and optimization of the network extremely difficult. Recently, adding intelligence to the control plane through AI&ML become a trend and a direction of network development This book's expected audience includes professors, researchers, scientists, practitioners, engineers, industry managers, and government research workers, who work in the fields of intelligent network. Advanced-level students studying computer science and electrical engineering will also find this book useful as a secondary textbook.

Book excerpt: The Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (MICAI), a yearly international conference series organized by the Mexican Society for Artificial Intel- gence (SMIA), is a major international AI forum and the main event in the academic life of the country’s growing AI community. In 2008 Mexico celebrates the 50th an- versary of development of computer science in the country: in 1958 the first computer was installed at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Nowadays, computer science is the country’s fastest growing research area. The proceedings of the previous MICAI events were published by Springer in its Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNAI) series, vol. 1793, 2313, 2972, 3789, 4293, and 4827. Since its foundation in 2000, the conference has been growing in popularity, and improving in quality. This volume contains the papers presented at the oral session of the 7th Mexican International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, MICAI 2008, held October 27–31, 2008, in Atizapán de Zaragoza, Mexico. The conference received for evaluation 363 submissions by 1,032 authors from 43 countries (see Tables 1 and 2). This volume contains revised versions of 94 papers by 308 authors from 28 countries selected - cording to the results of an international reviewing process. Thus the acceptance rate was 25.9%. The book is structured into 20 thematic fields representative of the main current areas of interest for the AI community, plus a section of invited papers:
