Download or read book Release a Man for Combat written by Michaela Hampf and published by Böhlau Verlag Köln Weimar. This book was released on 2010 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Gender Trouble in the U.S. Military by : Stephanie Szitanyi
Download or read book Gender Trouble in the U.S. Military written by Stephanie Szitanyi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-26 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates challenges to the U.S. military’s gender regime of hetero-male privilege. Examining a broad set of discursive maneuvers in a series of cases as focal points—integration of open homosexuality, the end of the combat ban on women, and the epidemic nature of military sexual assault within its units—Stephanie Szitanyi examines the contemporary link between gender and military service in the United States, and comprehensively analyzes forms of gendering produced by the military as an institution. Using feminist interpretivist methods to analyze an impressive combination of visual, textual, archival, and cultural materials, the book argues that despite policy changes since 2013 that may be positioned as explicit episodes of degendering, military officials have simultaneously moved to counteract them and reinforce the institution’s gender regime of hetero-male privilege. Importantly, these (re)gendering processes continue to prioritize certain forms of service and sacrifice, through which a specific version of masculinity—the masculine warrior—is continuously promoted, preserved, and cemented.
Book Synopsis Sexual Assault in the Military by : Cheryl Lawhorne-Scott
Download or read book Sexual Assault in the Military written by Cheryl Lawhorne-Scott and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-04-04 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sexual assault and harassment in the military have been a critical subject for years. Many victims may be reluctant to press charges because of fear of retaliation, damage to their careers, and widespread uncertainty regarding the military justice system. However, when circumstances arise, there are resources available to assist victims and families in their efforts to report, seek help, and recover from the effects of sexual assault. Yet, finding those resources can be challenging, especially in a time of crisis. Sexual Assault in the Military serves as an easy-to-use, comprehensive reference guide for military members and their families about sexual assault and harassment. While more and more attention focuses on getting victims to report their abuse, accessing information can still be difficult for service-members. Understanding that the military is making changes, and offering support is a necessary step towards how best to treat these cases and how to get help and justice. Cheryl Lawhorne-Scott and Don Philpott discuss the current state of affairs, the systems in place, and the supports available to victims and families. They provide documents that outline how reporting can and should take place, how cases should be handled through the military justice system, and how and where victims can access resources, including counseling. By providing this information in one ready resource, the authors hope to assist in changing the culture of silence and fear, as well as provide education surrounding military sexual assault and harassment.
