Book excerpt: Dick Miller is a retired special agent with the US Army Criminal Investigation Division who faithfully served his country for over twenty-three years in the military and an additional twenty years working for various US government law enforcement, intelligence, and security agencies. His book, Army Detective: Life and Times of Dick Miller, not only chronicles his early years growing up in a small coal-mining town in southwestern Indiana but goes into his first tour in the US Army where he served a year in Vietnam then left to pursue a college degree. He writes about how his personal life, studies, and aspirations to work in law enforcement were hindered by his wife’s refusal to support his career ambitions, which overflowed into her disruptive personality and own personal desires to make him stay in their hometown without the hope of pursuing any type of career. Knowing his life would be forever stagnated without hope of achieving his goals and realizing his marriage was a failure, he reentered the US Army and achieved his career goal at the same time by seeking to serve as a CID special agent. His decision caused his marriage to end but opened the opportunity to find true love with a different woman and establish a stronger bond with his son, Chris. His journey to become successful picked up momentum at this stage, and as he rose through the ranks from a street investigator to senior investigative manager, he accomplished a lifelong dream of having that career in law enforcement. The many gruesome and violent crimes he investigated took their toll on his health and psyche. Realizing what his lifelong career had done, he had to find an avenue to allow him to keep associated with his work without the trials and tribulations of the job. Knowing it was a risk to get out of investigations, he pursued a position with the US Army Protective Services Unit. This action would allow him to continue working until retirement. This decision caused him to leave investigations but to stay in the job until his retirement. At the end, the US Army did offer him a chance to return to criminal investigations, but he turned them down and retired. He moved to Sun City Center, Florida, where he enjoys spending time with his wife of thirty-five-plus years, Elda, traveling throughout the United States and other parts of the world with her, and reading the many books accumulated over the years.

Book excerpt: How far would you go to stop a terrorist? US Army CID Special Agent Regan Chase thought she knew the answer--until her target changed and her case blew up in her face. "Your suspect is Special Forces." The tip is from a Stateside colleague. With it comes the chilling reality: Regan's latest mission just might be her last. Has one of the Army's elite soldiers turned terrorist? It's happened before--with deadly results. Not only is this soldier more lethal than most, he's a master at rigging bombs. Unfortunately, Regan's gun-shy commander won't let her tail the sergeant. Worse, her suspect has refused to take the bait--her. Regan has one option left. She'll have to maintain her cover and get close to the sergeant's roommate, deliberately using their budding relationship to zero in on her target. But John Garrison is hiding something too. Has the war-weary Green Beret captain been turned as well? As the investigation deepens, lines are crossed--personal and professional. Even if Regan succeeds in thwarting a horrific bombing on German soil, what will the fallout do to her career? Written by a former US Navy Lt., Aimpoint is a 44,000-word prequel novella to the Deception Point military detective thriller series. The main Deception Point books are significantly longer and carry a warning: graphic crime scenes, the occasional sex scene and cursing abound throughout this series! If you're faint of heart, you may want to turn back now. But if you're not & you like strong, female protagonists and seriously gritty, complex suspense that twists and turns all the way to The End, you'll love Candace Irving's military detective thriller series. Grab your copy of Aimpoint today and find out how the exciting US Army Detective Regan Chase series begins.

Book excerpt: What if the one person you can't trust...is yourself? US Army Detective Regan Chase spent years lying for her country. Until she was caught. Her reputation as the military's premier undercover chameleon in tatters, Regan's been shunted to a Stateside post and reassigned to the grunt work of Army CID—investigations. First up, the brutal stabbing of a soldier's wife. Instead of the domestic homicide she expects, Regan confronts the first in a series of murders and suicides brought on by the violent hallucinations plaguing a twelve-man Special Forces A-Team just back from Afghanistan. A team led by the very soldier responsible for the decimation of her undercover career. As the murders and suicides mount, Regan clashes with an unforgiving, uncooperative and dangerously secretive John Garrison—and an even more secretive US Army. The Army knows she and John have history. So why hasn't she been reassigned? Someone wants Regan on the case. But they also want her off her game. They’re depending on it. Why else is she being followed? What happened in that Afghan cave? Why is the Army willing to risk an entire Special Forces team to keep it secret? Regan won't stop until she finds out. But by then, it may be too late. Another name may have already been added to that growing list of victims. Her own. *Blind Edge is a 2021 Killer Nashville Silver Falchion Finalist for Best Thriller. Book excerpt: Into the Heart of Terror In a story so explosive that he can only tell it as fiction, former counterintelligence special agent David DeBatto takes us onto a new kind of battlefield, beyond the reach of reporters, and into the covert ops of elite tactical intelligence teams. Their number one job: to pierce the secrets of an enemy-before the enemy reaches us... Staff Sgt. David DeLuca had a love/hate relationship with the Armed Forces. Then came 9/11. After a career as a street cop, he went to war-and put his skills to work in a secret army within an army. Part detective, con man, spy, and soldier, DeLuca is now hunting a Saddam loyalist Centcom thought was dead. To catch his prey, he'll have to outmaneuver him using microscopic forensic evidence, high-tech espionage tools, and gut instincts. But as he follows a deadly trail out of the Sunni Triangle into Iran, a horrifying picture is coming clear to DeLuca and his elite "red" team: a terrorist group already has its fangs in the USA-and needs to be hunted down and eliminated right now...
