Book Synopsis Application of Abstract Differential Equations to Some Mechanical Problems by : I. Titeux
Download or read book Application of Abstract Differential Equations to Some Mechanical Problems written by I. Titeux and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-09-27 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PREFACE The theory of differential-operator equations has been described in various monographs, but the initial physical problem which leads to these equations is often hidden. When the physical problem is studied, the mathematical proofs are either not given or are quickly explained. In this book, we give a systematic treatment of the partial differential equations which arise in elastostatic problems. In particular, we study problems which are obtained from asymptotic expansion with two scales. Here the methods of operator pencils and differential-operator equations are used. This book is intended for scientists and graduate students in Functional Analy sis, Differential Equations, Equations of Mathematical Physics, and related topics. It would undoubtedly be very useful for mechanics and theoretical physicists. We would like to thank Professors S. Yakubov and S. Kamin for helpfull dis cussions of some parts of the book. The work on the book was also partially supported by the European Community Program RTN-HPRN-CT-2002-00274. xiii INTRODUCTION In first two sections of the introduction, a classical mathematical problem will be exposed: the Laplace problem. The domain of definition will be, on the first time, an infinite strip and on the second time, a sector. To solve this problem, a well known separation of variables method will be used. In this way, the structure of the solution can be explicitly found. For more details about the separation of variables method exposed in this part, the reader can refer to, for example, the book by D. Leguillon and E. Sanchez-Palencia [LS].

Book Synopsis Ordinary Differential Equations and Mechanical Systems by : Jan Awrejcewicz
Download or read book Ordinary Differential Equations and Mechanical Systems written by Jan Awrejcewicz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-17 with total page 621 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book applies a step-by-step treatment of the current state-of-the-art of ordinary differential equations used in modeling of engineering systems/processes and beyond. It covers systematically ordered problems, beginning with first and second order ODEs, linear and higher-order ODEs of polynomial form, theory and criteria of similarity, modeling approaches, phase plane and phase space concepts, stability optimization and ending on chaos and synchronization. Presenting both an overview of the theory of the introductory differential equations in the context of applicability and a systematic treatment of modeling of numerous engineering and physical problems through linear and non-linear ODEs, the volume is self-contained, yet serves both scientific and engineering interests. The presentation relies on a general treatment, analytical and numerical methods, concrete examples and engineering intuition. The scientific background used is well balanced between elementary and advanced level, making it as a unique self-contained source for both theoretically and application oriented graduate and doctoral students, university teachers, researchers and engineers of mechanical, civil and mechatronic engineering.

Book Synopsis Eigenvalues and Completeness for Regular and Simply Irregular Two-Point Differential Operators by : John Locker
Download or read book Eigenvalues and Completeness for Regular and Simply Irregular Two-Point Differential Operators written by John Locker and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2008 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this monograph the author develops the spectral theory for an $n$th order two-point differential operator $L$ in the Hilbert space $L2[0,1]$, where $L$ is determined by an $n$th order formal differential operator $\ell$ having variable coefficients and by $n$ linearly independent boundary values $B 1, \ldots, B n$. Using the Birkhoff approximate solutions of the differential equation $(\rhon I - \ell)u = 0$, the differential operator $L$ is classified as belonging to one of threepossible classes: regular, simply irregular, or degenerate irregular. For the regular and simply irregular classes, the author develops asymptotic expansions of solutions of the differential equation $(\rhon I - \ell)u = 0$, constructs the characteristic determinant and Green's function, characterizes the eigenvalues and the corresponding algebraic multiplicities and ascents, and shows that the generalized eigenfunctions of $L$ are complete in $L2[0,1]$. He also gives examples of degenerate irregular differential operators illustrating some of the unusual features of this class.

Book Synopsis Ill-posed Problems for Integrodifferential Equations in Mechanics and Electromagnetic Theory by : Frederick Bloom
Download or read book Ill-posed Problems for Integrodifferential Equations in Mechanics and Electromagnetic Theory written by Frederick Bloom and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1981-01-01 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examines ill-posed, initial-history boundary-value problems associated with systems of partial-integrodifferential equations arising in linear and nonlinear theories of mechanical viscoelasticity, rigid nonconducting material dielectrics, and heat conductors with memory. Variants of two differential inequalities, logarithmic convexity, and concavity are employed. Ideas based on energy arguments, Riemann invariants, and topological dynamics applied to evolution equations are also introduced. These concepts are discussed in an introductory chapter and applied there to initial boundary value problems of linear and nonlinear diffusion and elastodynamics. Subsequent chapters begin with an explanation of the underlying physical theories.

Book Synopsis Partial Differential Equations by : Walter A. Strauss
Download or read book Partial Differential Equations written by Walter A. Strauss and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-12-21 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our understanding of the fundamental processes of the natural world is based to a large extent on partial differential equations (PDEs). The second edition of Partial Differential Equations provides an introduction to the basic properties of PDEs and the ideas and techniques that have proven useful in analyzing them. It provides the student a broad perspective on the subject, illustrates the incredibly rich variety of phenomena encompassed by it, and imparts a working knowledge of the most important techniques of analysis of the solutions of the equations. In this book mathematical jargon is minimized. Our focus is on the three most classical PDEs: the wave, heat and Laplace equations. Advanced concepts are introduced frequently but with the least possible technicalities. The book is flexibly designed for juniors, seniors or beginning graduate students in science, engineering or mathematics.

Download or read book Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations with Applications written by Tomáš Roubíček and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-13 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book primarily concerns quasilinear and semilinear elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations, inequalities, and systems. The exposition leads the reader through the general theory based on abstract (pseudo-) monotone or accretive operators as fast as possible towards the analysis of concrete differential equations, which have specific applications in continuum (thermo-) mechanics of solids and fluids, electrically (semi-) conductive media, modelling of biological systems, or in mechanical engineering. Selected parts are mainly an introduction into the subject while some others form an advanced textbook. The second edition simplifies and extends the exposition at particular spots and augments the applications especially towards thermally coupled systems, magnetism, and more. The intended audience is graduate and PhD students as well as researchers in the theory of partial differential equations or in mathematical modelling of distributed parameter systems. ------ The monograph contains a wealth of material in both the abstract theory of steady-state or evolution equations of monotone and accretive type and concrete applications to nonlinear partial differential equations from mathematical modeling. The organization of the material is well done, and the presentation, although concise, is clear, elegant and rigorous. (...) this book is a notable addition to the existing literature. Also, it certainly will prove useful to engineers, physicists, biologists and other scientists interested in the analysis of (...) nonlinear differential models of the real world.
