Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Civilization is in a race between education and catastrophe. Let us learn the truth and spread it as far and wide as our circumstances allow. For the truth is the greatest weapon we have.” - H. G. Wells Whenever we speak about civilization, we understand is a society characterized by the existence of the state that has developed culture, language, a writing system, books, currency, banking, trading etc. Civilizations are additionally characterized by specialization of labour, agriculture, architecture, infrastructure, technological advancement, computers, internets, destructive bombs and nuclear weapons. The civilization, that started with the discovery of fire, wheel and agriculture started to move in the path of technological development with lightning speed since last part of the 20th Century. However, the age old mindset of people regarding war, discrimination, violence, destruction and killing of people on flimsy grounds has not at all changed. Technology is a double-edged sword, making and breaking civilization since time immemorial. We have seen first and second world war, but we have learnt no lesson from it. Only love, brotherhood and toleration can save our modern civilization, not technology alone. This book is written during Russia-Ukraine to promote brotherhood and educate fellow human beings to take care of our present civilization and save it from destruction and annihilation like old civilizations.

Anecdotal, eclectic, and always enthusiastic, The Origins of English Words is a diverting expedition beyond linguistics into literature, history, folklore, anthropology, philosophy, and science.

Book Synopsis Language in Language Teacher Education by : H. R. Trappes-Lomax
Download or read book Language in Language Teacher Education written by H. R. Trappes-Lomax and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores the defining element in the work of language teacher educators: language itself. The book is in two parts. The first part holds up to scrutiny concepts of language that underlie much practice in language teacher education yet too frequently remain under-examined. These include language as social institution, language as verbal practice, language as reflexive practice, language as school subject and language as medium of language learning. The chapters in the second part are written by language teacher educators working in a range of institutional contexts and on a variety of types of program including both long and short courses, both pre-service and in-service courses, and teacher education practice focusing variously on metalinguistic awareness for teachers, language improvement, and classroom communication. The unifying factor is that collectively they illuminate how language teacher educators research their practice and reflect on underlying principles.

Book Synopsis Subatomic quantification by : Marcin Wągiel
Download or read book Subatomic quantification written by Marcin Wągiel and published by Language Science Press. This book was released on with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this book is to explore the relationship between the cognitive notion of parthood and various grammatical devices expressing this concept in natural language. The monograph aims to investigate syntactic constructions and lexical categories, e.g., partitives, whole-adjectives, and multipliers, encoding different kinds of part-whole structures both in Slavic and non-Slavic languages. It is envisioned to inspire radical rethinking of the ontology of models accounting for nominal semantics. Specifically, it provides novel evidence for a mereotopological approach to meaning, i.e., a theory of wholes that captures not only parthood but also topological relations holding between parts. This evidence comes from the phenomenon of subatomic quantification, i.e., quantification over parts of referents of concrete count nouns.
