Book Synopsis Variable Structure Systems: Towards the 21st Century by : Xinghuo Yu
Download or read book Variable Structure Systems: Towards the 21st Century written by Xinghuo Yu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a collection of contributions concerning the theories, applications and perspectives of Variable Structure Systems (VSS). Variable Structure Systems have been a major control design methodology for many decades. The term Variable Structure Systems was introduced in the late 1950’s, and the fundamental concepts were developed for its main branch Sliding Mode Control by Russian researchers Emelyanov and Utkin. The 20th Century has seen the formation and consolidation of VSS theory and its applications. It has also seen an emerging trend of cross-fertilization and integration of VSS with other control and non-control techniques such as feedback linearization, ?atness, passivity based control, adaptive and learning ? control, system identi?cation, pulse width modulation, H geometric and algebraic methods, arti?cial intelligence, modeling and optimization, neural networks, fuzzy logic, to name just a few. This trend will continue and ?ourish in the new millennium. To re?ect these major developments in the 20th Century, this book - cludes 16 specially invited contributions from well-known experts in VSS theory and applications, covering a wide range of topics. The ?rst chapter, “First Stage of VSS: People and Events” written by Vadim Utkin, the founder of VSS, oversees and documents the historical developments of VSS in the 20th Century, including many interesting events not known to the West until now. The second chapter, “An Integrated Learning Variable Structure Control Method” written by Jian-Xin Xu, addresses an important issue regarding control integration between variable structure control and learning control.

Book Synopsis Photon Creation — Annihilation by : Dale M Grimes
Download or read book Photon Creation — Annihilation written by Dale M Grimes and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012-02-10 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a classical physics-based explanation of quantum physics, including a full description of photon creation and annihilation, and successful working models of both photons and electrons. Classical field theory, known to fully describe macroscopic scale events, is shown to fully describe atomic scale events, including photon emission and annihilation. As such the book provides a ‘top-down’ unification of electromagnetic and quantum theories. Contents:Classical ElectrodynamicsProperties of Radiation FieldsTransmitting Biconical AntennasReceiving Biconical AntennasClassical-Based Quantum TheoryQuantized Energy ExchangesMatched Multipolar SourcesSpontaneous EmissionAbsorption, Emission, EntanglementsEpilogue Readership: Students and researchers in atomic physics, theoretical physics and electrodynamics. Keywords:Photon;Spontaneous Emission;Absorption;Entanglement;Electron;KinematicKey Features:No other book provides a classical physics-based explanation of quantum physics, including photon creation and annihilation, photon structure and behavior, and electron structureDescribes a zero-Q radiation field with the electromagnetic and kinematic properties of a photon. The continuum field solution that describes a photon enables us to construct a viable electron model sufficient to create photon exchanges and a photon model that, in turn, is sufficient to understand why photons diffract and reflect light as a wave but are created and annihilated as a particle

Book Synopsis Iwahori-Hecke Algebras and their Representation Theory by : Ivan Cherednik
Download or read book Iwahori-Hecke Algebras and their Representation Theory written by Ivan Cherednik and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-03 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two basic problems of representation theory are to classify irreducible representations and decompose representations occuring naturally in some other context. Algebras of Iwahori-Hecke type are one of the tools and were, probably, first considered in the context of representation theory of finite groups of Lie type. This volume consists of notes of the courses on Iwahori-Hecke algebras and their representation theory, given during the CIME summer school which took place in 1999 in Martina Franca, Italy.
