Book Synopsis Medicinal Chemistry of Anticancer Drugs by : Carmen Avendaño
Download or read book Medicinal Chemistry of Anticancer Drugs written by Carmen Avendaño and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-06-11 with total page 767 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medicinal Chemistry of Anticancer Drugs, Second Edition, provides an updated treatment from the point of view of medicinal chemistry and drug design, focusing on the mechanism of action of antitumor drugs from the molecular level, and on the relationship between chemical structure and chemical and biochemical reactivity of antitumor agents. Antitumor chemotherapy is a very active field of research, and a huge amount of information on the topic is generated every year. Cytotoxic chemotherapy is gradually being supplemented by a new generation of drugs that recognize specific targets on the surface or inside cancer cells, and resistance to antitumor drugs continues to be investigated. While these therapies are in their infancy, they hold promise of more effective therapies with fewer side effects. Although many books are available that deal with clinical aspects of cancer chemotherapy, this book provides a sorely needed update from the point of view of medicinal chemistry and drug design. - Presents information in a clear and concise way using a large number of figures - Historical background provides insights on how the process of drug discovery in the anticancer field has evolved - Extensive references to primary literature

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Role of Nutraceuticals in Chemoresistance to Cancer, Volume Two, focuses on nutraceuticals, the compounds derived from natural sources, which are usually multi-targeted as a means to overcome chemoresistance. This book discusses the role of several compounds related to nutraceuticals and chemoresistance, such as curcumin, resveratrol, indole 3-carbinol, tocotrienols, ursolic acid, fisetin, celastrol, gambogic, butein, catechins and silymarin. It is a valuable resource for cancer researchers, oncologists and members of several areas of the biomedical field who are interested in understanding how to use nutraceuticals as a sensitizing agent for chemotherapy. - Brings updated information on natural compounds used as specific inhibitors of cell signaling pathways as reviewed by experts in the field - Presents experts analysis and summary of reported and novel findings and potential translational application in cancer patients - Describes molecular mechanisms with new and helpful approaches for the readers to use in their own investigations

Book Synopsis Actions of Prolactin On Molecular Processes by : James A. Rillema
Download or read book Actions of Prolactin On Molecular Processes written by James A. Rillema and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-10 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well established tht the intial interaction of prolactin with its target cells is with specific receptor molecules located on the external surface of the plasma membrane. Subsequent to the prolactin-receptor interaction, however, the molecular events that culminate in the regulation of biological processes are not totally understood. This book was assembled to review and analyse the currently available information relative to the molecular events involved in the actions of prolactin on cells. Hopefully, the assimilation of this information will provide the basis for ultimately determining the sequence of molecular reactions by which prolactin expresses its biological responses.
Book Synopsis Selected Topics from Neurochemistry by : Neville N. Osborne
Download or read book Selected Topics from Neurochemistry written by Neville N. Osborne and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains up-dated versions of articles which proved very popular when first published in Neurochemistry International. The articles draw attention to developments in a specific field perhaps unfamiliar to the reader, collating observations from a wide area which seem to point in a new direction, giving the author's personal view on a controversial topic, or directing soundly based criticism at some widely held dogma or widely used technique in the neurosciences.

Book Synopsis The Physiology of Polyamines, Volume I by : Uriel Bachrach
Download or read book The Physiology of Polyamines, Volume I written by Uriel Bachrach and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-05-30 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The area of polyamines is presented in this useful, two-volume publication. Basic information describing the role of polyamines in the processes of growth and differentiation is given. Also included are data on the regulation of polyamine biosynthesis and metabolism and their interactions with nucleic acids. Several chapters are devoted to the role of polyamines in various aspects of plant biology, with a special emphasis on their participation in the response of plants to extreme environments. Special attention is given to the use of inhibitors of polyamine biosynthesis as potential antitumor and antiproliferative agents. Additionally, progress in the molecular biology and genetic engineering of genes coding for polyamine biosynthetic enzymes is described. Cancer researchers, biologists, geneticists, biochemists, physiologists, and clinicians will find this volume indispensable.

Book Synopsis Progress in Polyamine Research by : V. Zappia
Download or read book Progress in Polyamine Research written by V. Zappia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 755 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the scientific contributions presented at an International Symposium held in Sorrento, Italy, in June 1988 under the auspices of the University of Naples, the Italian Society of Biochemistry, and the National Research Council. The modern history of polyamines dates back to 1958 when the Tabors and Rosenthal first described the outlines of their biological synthesis. From then on, and particularly in the last ten years, a veri table explosion of Literature, characterized by thousands of papers, has witnessed the interest of the scientific community toward these molecules. Perhaps the old statement that "polyamines are molecules in search of a function" is no longer true today. A large number of effects exerted by these simple molecules are well known, and in many cases the mechanisms underlying these effects have been elucidated. The first section of the volume is entirely devoted to the enzymology and molecular biology of ornithine decarboxylase. Since its discovery by Gale more than forty years ago, this can be considered among the most widely studied enzymes in biology, and one of the most complex models in enzyme regulation. The mechanism of control of the enzyme activity at the transcriptional, post-transcriptional and post-translational levels, as well as the fine regulation by antizyme, are discussed in detail. The second group of contributions deals wi th AdoMet decarboxylase, propylamine transferase, polyamine oxidase and the other enzymes related to polyamine interconversion and regeneration.
