Book Synopsis Organometallic Polymers by : Charles E. Jr. Carraher
Download or read book Organometallic Polymers written by Charles E. Jr. Carraher and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organometallic Polymers focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and potential applications of organometallic polymers. The discussion is organized around seven themes: vinyl polymerization of organometallic monomers; condensation polymerization of organometallic monomers; polymer-bound catalysts; applications of organotin polymers; developments in organosilicon polymers; phosphonitrile and sulfur nitride polymers; and coordination polymers. This book is comprised of 33 chapters and begins with a general review of polymerized vinyl monomers containing transition metals, as well as the reactivity of such monomers in addition to homo- and copolymerizations. The following chapters explore the participation of the ferrocene nucleus in the polymerization of vinylferrocene and its effect on polymer properties; thermomechanical transitions of ferrocene-containing polymers; photocrosslinkable organometallic polyesters; and supported catalysts for ethylene polymerization. The remaining sections discuss antifouling applications of various tin-containing organometallic polymers; structure and applications of polyphosphazenes and polymeric sulfur nitride; and coordination of inorganic ions to polymers. This monograph will be a useful resource for organic chemists and research workers in the field.
Book Synopsis Controlled Release Pesticides Formulations by : Nathan F. Cardarelli
Download or read book Controlled Release Pesticides Formulations written by Nathan F. Cardarelli and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-17 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main goal of this book is to present a summary of the state of the art historical background. Conventional chemical pest control methods are mentioned only as a means of comparison to controlled release. Research endeavour with biological weapons, potential usage of such controls, and the few instances of success are likewise brought into focus with the same motive. Formulations and methods or preparing controlled release pesticides are discussed in some detail as concerns the antifouling and molluscicide areas, where the compounding methodology has been well developed. The mathematical basis of controlled release has been developed to an extent and is presented in an abbreviated form.

Book Synopsis Applied Bioactive Polymeric Materials by : Charles Gebelein
Download or read book Applied Bioactive Polymeric Materials written by Charles Gebelein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biological and biomedical applications of polymeric materials have increased greatly in the past few years. This book will detail some, but not all, of these recent developments. There would not be enough space in this book to cover, even lightly, all of the major advances that have occurred. Some earlier books and summaries are available by two of this book's Editors (Gebelein & Carraher) and these should be consul ted for additional information. The books are: "Bioactive Polymeric Systems" (Plenum, 1985); "Polymeric Materials In Medication" (Plenum, 1985); "Biological Acti vi ties of Polymers" (American Chemical Society, 1982). Of these three, "Bioacti ve Polymeric Systems" should be the most useful to a person who is new to this field because it only contains review articles written at an introductory level. The present book primarily consists of recent research results and applications, with only a few review or summary articles. Bioactive polymeric materials have existed from the creation of life itself. Many firmly believe that life could not even exist unless poly meric materials are used to form the basic building blocks. Although this assumption can not be rigorously proven, it is a fact that most, if not all, of the major biochemical pathways involve polymeric species, such as the proteins (including enzymes), polysaccharides and nucleic acids.

Book Synopsis Marine Biodeterioration: An Interdisciplinary Study by : J.D. Costlaw
Download or read book Marine Biodeterioration: An Interdisciplinary Study written by J.D. Costlaw and published by Springer. This book was released on 1984-06-07 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biodeterioration held April 20-23, 1981, at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Maryland. The symposium was sponsored by the Office of Naval Research to provide an organized forum for the discussion of progress in basic and applied research con cerning marine biodeterioration. The symposium was structured to cover interdisciplinary topics of interest both to the basic research community and the applied science and engineering communities. In each major topic area, a comprehensive overview paper summarizing highlights of the past two decades of research is followed by current technical papers concerning both basic and applied re search. Authors were urged to provide extensive refer ences, and their papers were subjected to external peer review. In some respects, the symposium was structured to pro vide a reference tool for the marine engineering com munity that would supplement the excellent monograph entitled "Marine Fouling and Its Prevention" prepared for the U.S. Navy Bureau of Ships in 1952 by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. While these proceedings can not begin to update that work, they can, by presenting the in research direction, recent workers in the field, changes ac and current references, give the interdisciplinary user cess to the current literature in key topic areas.
