Efforts Were Also Made To Identify These Gods. It Is A Finding Of Great Importance That What Rishis Had Said About These Gods Is Being Corroborated By The Western Science Today. Dr. Gupta Has Grouped These 33 Gods Of Rig Veda In Three Categories: (I) Natural Phenomena Gods Sky, Earth, Fire, Air And Water. All The Material Things Are Produced By Their Permutations And Combinations. These Five Natural Phenomena Gods Have Their Sub-Gods Also. For Example, Agni Has Surya Agni (Nuclear Energy), Apan Napat Agni (Agni In The Sky Like Lightning), Davanal (Agni On Earth), Badvanal (Agni In The Oceans Or Water) And Jathragni (Agni In The Body); (Ii) Gods Connected With Soul Energy Such As Vishnu (Can Be Compared With A Modern Generating Station), Brahama, Who Induces The Tiny, Invisible, Weightless Particles Of Soul Energy In All The Living Beings To Give Them Life, Shiva, Who, At An Interval Of Time, Takes Out This Particle Of Soul Energy From All The Living Beings And They All Become Dead, And Yama, Who And Whose Assistants Take These Tiny Particles Of Soul To A Place Called Yama Loka; (Iii) Craftsmen Gods Such As Vishvakarma, Tvastha And Ribhugan Who Assemble And Mix The Five Basic Elements In Different Proportions To Create Structures Or Forms So That Soul-Particles Can Be Introduced In Them; And (Iv) Miscellaneous Gods Such As Rishis And Other Men, Animals (Cow, Frog, Etc.) Building on the author's earlier work on videogame culture in India, this book addresses issues of how discussions of equality and diversity sit within videogame studies, particularly in connection with the subcontinent, thereby presenting pioneering research on the videogame cultures of the region. Drawing on a series of player and developer interviews and surveys conducted over the last five years, including some recent ones, this book provides a sense of how games have become a part of the culture of the region despite its huge diversity and plurality and opens up avenues for further study through vignettes and snapshots of the diverse gaming culture. It addresses the rapid rise of videogames as an entertainment medium in South Asia and, as such, also tries to better understand the recent controversies connected to gaming in the region In the process, it aims to make a larger connection between the development of videogames and player culture, in the subcontinent and globally, thus opening up channels for collaboration between the industry and academic research, local and global.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lord Almighty in the form of Sage Vedavyasa composed the epic Bhagavata Maha Purana to expand on the spiritual concepts contained in the Vedas using episodes and anecdotes from the Lord’s various incarnations and the experiences of His devotees. It is a guidebook to society to illustrate human and ethical values. The Bhagavata Maha Purana is structured as a conversation between King Pariksit and sage Shuka and is spread over 12 cantos with 18000 verses. The eleventh canto has 1373 verses spread among 31 chapters. While the tenth canto has the authentic account of the incarnation and activities of Lord Sri Krishna, the eleventh canto has core messages from the Lord to humankind. The Bhagavad Gita [BG], the song celestial, which has the sermon from Lord Krishna to prince Arjuna, which is the most revered text among Hindu scriptures, is part of the great epic Mahabharata. Uddhava Gita, the divine conversation between Uddhava, an aide, and an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna, and Lord Krishna Himself is spread over 23 chapters (chapters 7 to 29), in 1033 verses (about 75% of 11th Canto). This has many parallels with the Gita and reads like a commentary on the Gita. In Gita, the Lord responds to many philosophical questions from Arjuna and many of those critical questions are explained in more detail in Uddhava Gita with examples and anecdotes. Excellent interpretation of the critical aspects of this epic can be found in the works of the 12th century ascetic Sri Madhwacharya. Other savants in his lineage such as Sri Vadiraja Teertha, Sri Raghavendra Teertha, Sri Vijayadhwaja Teertha, Sri Satyabhinava Teertha, Sri Satyadharma Teertha have contributed tremendously to summarize and expand on the key concepts. This book attempts to provide a simple translation in English of the 111h canto along with summary and interpretations based on the lectures by His Holiness Sri Vidyasagara Madhava Teertha.

Book excerpt: In this ground-breaking study the traditional Indian science of architecture and house-building, Vastu Vidya, is explored in terms of its secular uses, at the levels of both theory and contemporary practice. Vastu Vidya is treated as constituting a coherent and complete architectural programme, still of great relevance today. Chakrabarti draws on an impressive amount of textual material, much of it only available in Sanskrit, and presents several extremely valuable illustrations in support of the theories expounded. Each chapter deals with one architectural aspect, and chapters are divided into three sections. For each aspect, the first section explains the prescriptions of the traditional texts; the second section deals with the rather arbitrary use of that aspect by contemporary Indian architects trained in the western manner but striving to relate to Indian roots; while the last section in each chapter explores the selected use of that particular aspect by contemporary Vastu pundits, with their disregard for architectural idiom

These approaches include material practices, such as extraction and disaster recovery, and extend into the domains of human rights and education. This volume addresses the need in sustainability science to recognize the deep and diverse cultural histories that define environmental politics. It brings together scholars from cultural studies, anthropology, literature, law, behavioral science, urban studies, design, and development to argue that it is no longer possible to talk about sustainability in general without thinking through the contexts of research and action. These contributors are joined by artists whose public-facing work provides a mobile platform to conduct research at the edges of performance, knowledge production, and socio-ecological infrastructures. Situating Sustainability calls for a truly transdisciplinary research that is guided by the humanities and social sciences in collaboration with local actors informed by histories of place. Designed for students, scholars, and interested readers, the volume introduces the conceptual practices that inform the leading edge of engaged research in sustainability.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vaastu Shaastra is the art and science of living a happy and contented long life. In the modern-day world of high-speed technology, many diseases are arising out of faulty lifestyles. Classical principles of Vaastu Shaastra describe the ancient way of living which need modifications in the present-day context. This book is an intelligent amalgamation of the ancient practice of Vaastu living and modern technologies of house building and architecture. It offers an introduction to Vaastu Shaastra, systematising and standardising its techniques and methodologies. The book has been divided into three sections. The first section has been devoted to the understanding of the key concepts, principles and forces of Vaastu that exert an influence on any given space. The second section of the book reveals how to create heaven on earth; right in your home. It shows how we can achieve internal peace by first achieving external peace in the house. The third section is related to the day-to-day use of Vaastu. One chapter has been devoted to Vaastu of workplace which, in many aspects, is different from residential Vaastu. This book has been written according to the established principles of Vedic Astrology; an inevitable part of Vaastu Shaastra. The effect of the nine planets is considered in Astrology while mainly the effect of planet earth is taken in Vaastu. Astrology depends on dashas (Planetary Periods) while Vaastu depends on dishas (Directions), Jyotish assumes the existence of Kaal Purush (Time Personified) while Vaastu assumes the existence of Vaastu Purush (Space Personified). The book incorporates current knowledge of building science to explain the ancient wisdom of Vaastu Shaastra only to bridge the gap between ancient traditions and modern way of thinking. No attempt has been made to transgress into the other parallel systems known as Feng Shui and Pyramidology, which require totally separate study. The work is meant primarily for those who want to learn Vaastu from the very beginning and pursue it seriously in a scientific manner. The book will also serve as a stepping-stone for those who intend to indulge in hitherto unexplored areas of Vaastu Shaastra like suitability of certain directions for certain activities, hidden meanings of Vaastu Purush; forty-five demi gods; ten dikpalas; three energies and Panchmahabhootas, predicting the fate of a house and its inhabitants through Vaastu kala, etc.

It looks at how online and digital resources have transformed classroom and research practices. It examines some fundamental questions: What is digital humanities? Who is a digital humanist? What is its place in the Indian context? The chapters in the volume: • study the varied practices and pedagogies involved in incorporating the ‘digital’ into traditional classrooms; • showcase how researchers across disciplinary lines are expanding their scope of research, by adding a ‘digital’ component to update their curriculum to contemporary times; • highlight how this has also created opportunities for researchers to push the boundaries of their pedagogy and encouraged students to create ‘live projects’ with the aid of digital platforms; and • track changes in the language of research, documentation, archiving and reproduction as new conversations are opening up across Indian languages. A major intervention in the social sciences and humanities, this book will be of great interest to scholars and researchers of media studies, especially new and digital media, education, South Asian studies and cultural studies.

In that infinitely large timescale, the human beings are occupying a very, very small period of time. Even then, there has been no dearth of initiatives and urge for gathering knowledge to unveil the secrets of source of the vast creation all around and to search for history of the primordial days. When one section of the intelligent humans utilized the power of their innovative minds to refine their knowledge through continuous experimental ways of verifying the natural processes, the other section tried to evolve extraordinary methods of majestic occult arts and process of self-realization. The deep rooted beliefs on supernatural power had been another way to get close to that mystic source. It has been, therefore, the journey through different paths in search for the same goal: the truth.

Book excerpt: The field of study known as "environmental science" examines the interplay between living things and their physical surroundings. Engineering, information studies, and the study of environmental challenges are just a few of the many topics it explores. In environmental science, often known as ecology, researchers draw from a variety of disciplines in an effort to get a more holistic understanding of the world around us. The field of the environmental science examines the complex relationships between the environment's chemical, physical, and biological elements. Scientists that study the environment work to ensure that our planet has a long and healthy future by investigating urgent challenges like climate change and the global warming in an effort to find solutions. Moreover, they look into potential ecological issues and brainstorm solutions to prevent their realization. Both the environmental studies and the environmental engineering are subfields of environmental science. It allows researchers to examine environmental issues using a holistic and multidisciplinary framework. When it comes to protecting and preserving the environment, environmental engineer's analyses and deduce issues, determine the impact of human-made programmes, and devise plans for getting rid of pollutants in water, air, and land.
