This collection of Gibran's words from such poems as Secrets of the Heart', 'Spirits Rebellious' and 'Broken Wings', as well as his autobiography and various essays, was compiled by Joseph Shiban, a longtime student of the author's work. A perfect introduction to his passionately religious and often mystic outlook, Gibran's writings on love, work, death and other subjects illuminate the human experience.'

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Predicated upon the towers of collapse, while T.S. Eliot, the representative modernist, in order to re-construct his culture out of the debris of its imperialist past, concluded his Waste Land (1922) by looking Eastward, into the all-pervading “shantih” of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, Kahlil Gibran, a Lebanese American, authored The Prophet (1923) to deconstruct such enterprise and retrieve a culture that was swirling in-between Darwinian metaphors and Nietzschean Nihilism. He who was exterior to the ‘omnipotent definitions’ of the West, saw in “Beauty” the “eternity gazing at itself in a mirror.” So, to him, “you are eternity and you are the mirror.” This book is a reading of Kahlil Gibran's life and works: his life as a text and his works as the terrains of a never-ending journey. It opens up those fissures and ruptures that make Gibran and his writings relevant vis-á-vis the socio-political, cultural and religious urgencies that the world is grappling with today. Often misconstrued as a mystic or an Oriental Wise Man, Gibran dwells in an amorphous placeless-ness within the academic space and outside of it. “Forerunner” in its own way, this book, by unfolding the process of 'reading' as a mode of travelling, subverts such stereotypes and tries to reveal to the readers that 'outlandish' lonely intellectual who, through his works, fashioned a self and a land ‘out of place’, rather in a ‘non-place’, for dismantling and up-setting monolithic cultures and their decadent notions.

Book excerpt: Winner of a Scotsman Fringe First Award 2014 If you pinned me against a wall and put a gun to my head, I’d probably admit to being a liberal. Actually if you pinned me against a wall and put a gun to my head,I’d probably admit to being whatever you wanted me to be. And of course, putting a gun to my head is exactly what I’d expect from someone likeyou. Confirmation is a show about the gulf between beliefs that we can’t talk across.About our knee-jerk dismissal of the opposing viewpoint. About the echo chamberof agreement and validation we live in. About the way we choose only to see theevidence that proves we’re right. A new solo show from a multi Fringe First winning team: written and performed by Chris Thorpe (Unlimited Theatre, Third Angel), developed with and directed by Rachel Chavkin (The TEAM).

Book excerpt: A critical exploration of the life’s work of one of the twentieth century’s most important philosophers and poets, Kahlil Gibran Through his fiction, essays, poems, and art, Kahlil Gibran inspired a devoted international following and transformed modern Arabic literature. In this book, Joseph P. Ghougassian brings together the philosophical elements present across Gibran’s diverse writings, including his bestselling work The Prophet, as well as other significant works such as The Broken Wings, which tells the story of doomed young lovers, and the collection of aphorisms in Sand and Foam. Excerpts from Gibran’s letters provide a window into his mind, heart, and soul, creating a biography of this groundbreaking, mystical writer unlike any other. This systematic collection introduces Gibran as a “people’s philosopher,” who used simple, straightforward language to reveal a worldview of rich, deep meaning.
