Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annals of the International Geophysical Year, Volume 48: Bibliography and Index contains bibliography of articles published in connection with the International Geophysical Year (IGY). The preparatory and operational phases of the IGY occupied nearly a decade and the data accumulated in the many scientific disciplines by workers in some 67 countries will provide material for publication for many years. The references have been assembled from information supplied by a wide variety of sources. These references have been grouped into 21 sections, of which Sections I-XIV followed the discipline grouping adopted during the IGY. Within each section references have been arranged in alphabetical order according to the name of the principal author. Anonymous articles are listed at the end of each section, again arranged in alphabetical order by title. In the scientific literature, author's names originally printed in Cyrillic symbols sometimes appear with several different spellings because of the use of different transliteration systems. In the present Bibliography an attempt has been made to achieve consistency by using the same transliteration system throughout. This book will prove useful to geophysicists and researchers who are interested in the accomplishments of the International Geophysical Year.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annals of the International Geophysical Year, Volume 33: Results of Ionospheric Drift Observations describes the systematic changes in individual ionospheric observations during the International Geophysical Year (IGY). This book is composed of four chapters, and begins with a presentation of the general data on stations and the lists of publications concerning drift work during IGY/IGC. The next chapter contains the results obtained mainly by intercomparison of the time shift between fadings observed on three antenna separated by a distance of roughly a wavelength. These data are followed by a discussion of the results for a station, which has made the big effort of applying the correlation analysis as a routine. The concluding chapter highlights further results of intercomparison observations and tests, and a few stations' results obtained with drift meteor trails determined by combinations of Radar- and Doppler-techniques, as well as the intercomparison of fieldstrength fluctuations of cosmic radio waves. This book is of great value to geophysicists and space scientists and researchers.
Download or read book Oceanography written by Arnold L. Gordon and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annals of the International Geophysical Year, Volume 46: Oceanography covers the program of oceanographic studies conducted during the International Geophysical Year (IGY). The program includes long wave and sea level recording, deep water circulation, polar front survey, and multipleship current measurement. This book is composed of six chapters and begins with the objective and aims of the oceanographic program and the national contributions to this program. The succeeding chapters discuss the problem in delineating sea-level cycle and the results of the North Atlantic Polar Front Survey in the IGY. These topics are followed by a survey of the results from many oceanographical expeditions. Particularly good results were obtained during the IGY period by the use of special large-scale precision automatic recorders of the phototelegraph station type. The last chapter describes the artificial radioactivity in the oceans consisting mainly of fission products of U235, Pu239 and U238 from reactors and nuclear explosion devices. This book is of value to geophysicists, and marine scientists and researchers.
Download or read book Seismology written by V. Beloussov and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annals of the International Geophysical Year, Volume 30: Seismology is an eight-chapter text that provides seismological data observed during the International Geophysical Year (IGY). The resolution to include seismology in the IGY program has considerably stimulated seismic researches and accelerated the development of nets of seismic stations in many countries. After a brief introduction to seismological stations and equipment, this book goes on dealing with the approved proposal of the U.S.S.R. to establish three seismological stations in the Arctic zone and recommended to other nations that maintain seismological stations in that zone. A chapter presents the microseismological activities observed in various regions, emphasizing their geographical differences. Other chapters present a summary of special seismic crustal studies during the IGY to examine Earth's crust and Antarctic structures. The final chapters contain data on long period waves and the Lg phase, as well as the measurements of the Earth's crust strain. This book will be of value to geophysicists and researchers in the field.
