Book excerpt: "For those unaware—as I was until I read this book—that Mark Twain was one of America's early animal advocates, Shelley Fisher Fishkin's collection of his writings on animals will come as a revelation. Many of these pieces are as fresh and lively as when they were first written, and it's wonderful to have them gathered in one place." —Peter Singer, author of Animal Liberation and The Life You Can Save “A truly exhilarating work. Mark Twain's animal-friendly views would not be out of place today, and indeed, in certain respects, Twain is still ahead of us: claiming, correctly, that there are certain degraded practices that only humans inflict on one another and upon other animals. Fishkin has done a splendid job: I cannot remember reading something so consistently excellent."—Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson, author of When Elephants Weep and The Face on Your Plate "Shelley Fisher Fishkin has given us the lifelong arc of the great man's antic, hilarious, and subtly profound explorations of the animal world, and she's guided us through it with her own trademark wit and acumen. Dogged if she hasn't." —Ron Powers, author of Dangerous Water: A Biography of the Boy Who Became Mark Twain and Mark Twain: A Life

This book was released on 2022-07-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kids Play Animals are Everywhere: Creative Animal Kingdom Activities is a 6-series project where each is volumized into three books totaling 18 books. Volume 1 covers animal names beginning with A-F, Volume 2 covers G-Q, and Volume 3 covers R-Z. The activities are applicable to SPED students, aftercare classes, camp socials, road trips, and clubs (Boys and Girls, Boys/Girls Scouts, YMCA/YWCA, 4-H Clubs, PTA groups, pet shows). Parents will find that children with an interest in the arts and/or digital art can benefit greatly from the books especially if they are animal lovers. One of the ideas for the book grew from Loren's love for animals of the wild, especially in Africa, and Dr. D.'s love for educating and inspiring youths to attain bigger and greater things in their present lives that they can take with them into the future as adults. Both of us were initiated into the animal kingdom world back in Jamaica when our fathers took us to the circus to see lions, elephants, and other animals at Race Course back in the 1960s. Who knew that some 60 years later we would be collaborating on a book about animals? In addition, Dr. D., being aware of the increase and critical impact computers and digital life have on the school system during the pandemic, she wanted to create another outlet for the kids to engage in both analog and digital work outside of their school environment. The activities are also applicable to SPED students, aftercare classes, camp socials, road trips, and clubs (Boys and Girls, Boys/Girls Scouts, YMCA/YWCA, 4-H Clubs, PTA groups, pet shows). Parents will find that children with an interest in the arts and/or digital art can benefit greatly from the books. Be forewarned that most images portrayed in this book are child-like and not professionally appealing. Think of the NBC logo of a peacock that is basically an artistic rendition of a real peacock and bears little resemblance to a real peacock/peafowl. As in the Impressionist art form, alluding to an image does not define the present element under consideration. It requires an open mind to accept this branch of sometimes abstract art. In other words, this is a STEAM project with an emphasis on the Arts.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The culmination of a lifetime's scholarly work, this pioneering study by Sister Prudence Allen traces the concept of woman in relation to man in Western thought from ancient times to the present. In her third and final volume Allen covers the years 1500–2015, continuing her chronological approach to individual authors and also offering systematic arguments to defend certain philosophical positions over against others. Building on her work from Volumes I and II, Allen draws on four "communities of discourse"—Academic, Humanist, Religious, and Satirical—as she traces several recurring strands of sex and gender identity from the Renaissance to the present. Now complete, Allen's magisterial study is a valuable resource for scholars and students in the fields of women's studies, philosophy, history, theology, literary studies, and political science.
