This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1969 we feit that the subject of angular correlations in nuclear disintegrat ion had received little special attention at international conferences. It is true that perturbed angular correlations had been discussed at a smalI, highly - specialised meeting at Uppsala in 1963 and that in 1967 certain aspects of perturbed angular correlations had been considered at a conference on hyperfine structure at Asilomar. However, both conferences were very limited in scope from the point of view of a low - energy nuclear physicist. Besides, since these conferences were being held, the field of perturbed ?ngular correlations had received new impetus from the still ex panding application of the implantation of radioactive isotopes in suitable environ ments, from the construction of large superconductive magnets, etc. Meanwhile, the technique of measuring correlations between beta particles and circularly polarized gamma rays had been developed to such a degree that they lent themselves to the in vestigation of beta decay, nuclear structure and charge dependence of nuclear forces. The systematic study of heavy elements had increased the import an ce of alpha-gamma angular correlations which present their own specific problems. Theoretical internal conversion data had become available to such an extent that electron -gamma direct ional correlations became an important tool in the investigation of nuclear structure: in a large number of cases it is more advantageous to study electron -gamma corre lations instead of the commonly measured gamma -gamma directional correlations.

Book Synopsis Tables of Coefficients for Angular Correlation of Radiative Transitions from Aligned Nuclei by : D. D. Watson
Download or read book Tables of Coefficients for Angular Correlation of Radiative Transitions from Aligned Nuclei written by D. D. Watson and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report contains a list of basic formulas and tabulations of numerical coefficients which are useful for the analysis of data on intensity-direction correlations of successive radiative transitions from aligned nuclei. The formulas are extracted from an earlier published development of the angular correlation formalism. This development is based upon a factored version of the equations which is used to extend the application from the usual two-step cascade to general multiple-step cascades. The resulting flexibility and greater efficiency of the formalism is utilized in this report to provide an extensive tabulation of coefficients for a variety of specific applications. Coefficients are provided for analysis in terms of either the population parameters or the statistical tensors of the aligned state. The coefficients can be used for the analysis of angular distributions, triple correlations, and triple correlations involving one or more intermediate unobserved radiations. In contrast with previous tabulations of coefficients for angular-correlation analysis, the range of the present tables has been extended to include multipolarities through octupole. The overall length of the tables, however, remains about the same as previous tables because of the greater efficiency of the factored formalism. The range of spins covered by the tables are J

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Spectroscopy, Part A deals with the experimental and theoretical techniques involved in nuclear spectroscopy. This book discusses the interactions of charged particles with matter, gaseous ionization detectors, and particular mass attenuation coefficients. The magnetic gamma-ray spectrometers for photo or internal-conversion electrons, general characteristics of cross-section variation with energy, and measurement of fast neutron spectra are also elaborated. This text likewise covers the elastic scattering of photons by nuclei and measurement of widths of gamma-radiating levels. This publication is recommended for graduate students preparing for experimental research in nuclear spectroscopy, students who have completed graduate-level courses in quantum mechanics and nuclear physics, and specialists who wish to acquire a broader understanding of nuclear spectroscopy.
