Book excerpt: Tragedy often results when human beings and Angels try to interfere in God’s work. ANGELS from another world have created a secret, hidden city, carved from the ice of the South Pole. They have been watching us and intervening in our lives for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years. Deeply religious and well intentioned, these attractive, human-like people are poised for future world domination. There plan becomes conflicted, however, when two adventurous American men get involved. ICE ANGELS is an epic tale of adventure, of treachery and forgiveness, of family and faith. Life seems ideal among the beautiful Angels of New Mene’ah. But is everything as it seems? DARK ANGELS, Part II of the story introduces the evil Lord Osaura, the high Holy Council leader who finally arrives after ninety-three years of travel through deep space. He plans to eliminate mankind on Earth by releasing the Blind Eye, the Dark Star, an unholy entity that destroys and absorbs life. The Mene’ahns had buried it here at Stonehenge, eleven thousand years ago. Lord Osaura and the Blind Eye must be destroyed if our planet is to survive.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the definitive account of the history of the U.S. Army’s 11th Airborne Division (The Angels) from 1943-1946, by then-Major Edward M. Flanagan, Jr. who served with that division in the Pacific War. “The Division was activated at Camp Mackall, N. Carolina on Feb. 25, 1943, and was composed of former glider and veteran Airborne troops. Upon activation, the Division began intensive training to get the glider troops jump-qualified, and the Division was ready to move overseas in early 1944. Sent first to New Guinea for training in jungle combat, the Division took part in the Leyte landings in the Philippines in Nov. 1944. Moving inland, the unit relieved the battle-weary 24th and 37th Inf. Divs. with the mission to clear a mountain pass from Burauen to Ormoc. It took 3 months of bitter fighting, often hand-to-hand, to drive the Japanese defenders from the pass and surrounding heights. In late January, 1945, the 11th went back into action after a short rest, landing at Nasgubu Beach, Luzon, 70 miles from Manila. Their objective was to remove enemy opposition from a major highway and link with Allied forces attacking Manila. After capturing Fort McKinley and Nichols field, the 11th launched their assault on Manila joining the 1st Cav. Div. and the 37th Inf. Div. who were attacking from the North. Once the capitol was secured, the 11th made a daring raid behind enemy lines and freed more than 2,100 Allied civilian and military POWs from the Los Baños Internment Camp, considered one of the most successful rescues in military history. Following the Los Baños raid, the 11th Airborne spent the next few weeks mopping up resistance in southern Luzon. In May, 1945, the Division began preparations for the expected invasion of Japan, but with Japan's surrender in August, the Division instead moved to Okinawa to escort Gen. Douglas MacArthur into Japan. The 11th Airborne remained in Japan until 1949 before returning to the U.S.”-print ed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this "raucous, moving, and necessary" story by a Pulitzer Prize finalist (San Francisco Chronicle), the De La Cruzes, a family on the Mexican-American border, celebrate two of their most beloved relatives during a joyous and bittersweet weekend. "All we do, mija, is love. Love is the answer. Nothing stops it. Not borders. Not death." In his final days, beloved and ailing patriarch Miguel Angel de La Cruz, affectionately called Big Angel, has summoned his entire clan for one last legendary birthday party. But as the party approaches, his mother, nearly one hundred, dies, transforming the weekend into a farewell doubleheader. Among the guests is Big Angel's half brother, known as Little Angel, who must reckon with the truth that although he shares a father with his siblings, he has not, as a half gringo, shared a life. Across two bittersweet days in their San Diego neighborhood, the revelers mingle among the palm trees and cacti, celebrating the lives of Big Angel and his mother, and recounting the many inspiring tales that have passed into family lore, the acts both ordinary and heroic that brought these citizens to a fraught and sublime country and allowed them to flourish in the land they have come to call home. Teeming with brilliance and humor, authentic at every turn, The House of Broken Angels is Luis Alberto Urrea at his best, and cements his reputation as a storyteller of the first rank. "Epic . . . Book excerpt: A collection of photos made by Lindbloom in Florence between 1979 and 1987, using a Diana camera--virtually a child's toy with a plastic lens (the story of which is explained in an afterword). The photos have an intriguing strangeness and intimacy. 10x9.25" Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.The Florence revealed in Eric Lindbloom's Angels at the Arno is almost startling in its intimacy and quiet solitude. Lindbloom's view of the city - rendered exclusively through the plastic lens of a Diana camera, virtually a child's toy - brings this venerable city to new life and light. With unabashed subjectivity and an offbeat, oneiric sensibility, Lindbloom conveys his sense of an unveiled Florence, filled with views striking for the beauty they contain rather than for the history they suggest.

Book excerpt: In this thrilling sequel, Gemma continues to pursue her destiny to bind the magic of the Realms and restore it to the Order. Gemma and her friends from Spence use magical power to transport themselves on visits from their corseted world of Victorian London (at the height of the Christmas season), to the visionary country of the Realms, with its strange beauty and menace. There they search for the lost Temple, the key to Gemma's mission, and comfort Pippa, their friend who has been left behind in the Realms. After these visits they bring back magical power for a short time to use in their own world. Meanwhile, Gemma is torn between her attraction to the exotic Kartik, the messenger from the opposing forces of the Rakshana, and the handsome but clueless Simon, a young man of good family who is courting her. This is the second book in Libba Bray's engrossing trilogy, set in a time of strict morality and barely repressed sensuality, about a girl who saw another way.

Download or read book Zapuphizo written by Pieter Steyn and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-10-12 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 2006. This is the first biography of Angami Zapuphizo, the great patriot leader of Nagaland in the northeastern hills of South Asia, who died in exile in England in 1990. A colourful, charismatic personality with an air of mystery about him, he was the force behind the Nagas; demand for sovereign independence in 1947, at the time that Britain transferred power to India and Pakistan. From then onwards he was a central figure in the turbulent ethnic tapestry of the region. Zapuphizo's life was the stuff of which legends are made, and to the Naga people he will always be their hero. The book focuses on Zapuphizo's life, his realism and his collaboration with the Japanese in World War II, and with the years of India's military suppressions of the nationalist Naga army, giving fresh insight into Zapuphizo's thoughts and actions as he strove to regain for his homeland the ultimate goal of sovereign independence. Although Nagaland is today a state within the Union of India, the Naga peoples have never given up their wish to be free. In the years before Britain quit the Indian subcontinent, the Nagas of the far northeast were held to exemplify an exotic and quixotic society. Radically different in culture and beliefs from the better known Hindus and Muslims of the plains, they were renowned for their spirited independence and diversity. The book also gives a history of the Naga nation and surveys its present condition and future prospects.

Angel stories from the Bible — for kids
Modern believers may be tempted to look upon angels as one of the more fanciful elements of Scripture, but this illuminating and entertaining collection of angel stories from the Bible shows that there are just too many angels for them to be metaphorical, allegorical, or unimportant.
So that children will come to know and learn to revere angels, Marigold Hunt explains what angels are (and are not!) and gathers here in one volume most of the stories of angels in the Bible, including exciting tales of:
The fallen angels, beginning with the devil himself, tempting Adam and Eve
The angel who barred the gates of Eden so Adam and Eve could never enter again
The angels who announced that Sara, Abraham’s aged wife, would have a baby
The angels who tried to save Lot from destruction with the city of Sodom
The angel who stayed Abraham’s hand as he was about to sacrifice his son Isaac
The angels in Jacob’s dream who climbed the stairway to Heaven
The angels who saved Sidrach, Misach, and Abdenago from the fiery furnace
The angel Raphael, who shielded Tobias from death, and protected his wife Sara
The angels at the Ascension who chided the apostles for staring at the sky
The angel Gabriel, who foretold the birth of Jesus and John the Baptist
The choirs of angels who sang above Bethlehem when Jesus was born
The angel who carried food to Daniel when he was imprisoned in the lion’s den
The angel who freed Peter from prison, and, of course:
The countless angels who fill the marvelous pages of the Book of Revelation
