Not only was Jesus a great teacher, but even more so, He was a very attentive student who seemed to have always looked at His surroundings one way... "spiritually." All of my life, all I ever wanted to be was a great teacher, but never was I a very good student. I walked away from college at Arkansas State University in my very first semester after turning in a creative writing essay to my English professor. I remember it like it was yesterday. On the second day of class, my professor said to her students, "I read some good and I read some not so good papers, but there was one that stood out above all the others. And this particular composure is a prime example of what NOT to do in my college creative writing course." Of course, she was referring to me. I literally could've crawled under my desk and died right then and there due to the embarrassment and public humiliation that I experienced that day. Needless to say, never did I return to her class. From that very moment, my life took a dramatic turn in the wrong direction. And after a 33-year onslaught of an extensive and profound drug and alcohol addiction, the following 19 chapters of spiritual poetry were composed. This memoir is my melody. May it be music to thy ears. But most of all, may it bring ye an understanding of many things, and teach the ones that choose to partake of this overflowing cup to ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS stay a student. "May the Spirit of the Lord touch the deepest parts of your very soul, and may you be blessed with a great understanding of the Oneness of it all as we embark upon this spiritual journey together." Amen

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Now my eyes have seen you." (Job 42:5) Few biblical texts are more daunting, and yet more fascinating, than the book of Job—and few have been the subject of such diverse interpretation. For Robert Fyall, the mystery of God's ways and the appalling evil and suffering in the world are at the heart of Job's significant contribution to the canon of Scripture. This New Studies in Biblical Theology volume offers a holistic reading of Job, with particular reference to its depiction of creation and evil, and finds significant clues to its meaning in the striking imagery it uses. Fyall takes seriously the literary and artistic integrity of the book of Job, as well as its theological profundity. He concludes that it is not so much about suffering per se as about creation, providence and knowing God, and how—n the crucible of suffering—these are to be understood. He encourages us to listen to this remarkable literature, to be moved by it, and to see its progress from shrieking protest to repentence and vision. Addressing key issues in biblical theology, the works comprising New Studies in Biblical Theology are creative attempts to help Christians better understand their Bibles. The NSBT series is edited by D. A. Carson, aiming to simultaneously instruct and to edify, to interact with current scholarship and to point the way ahead.

Book excerpt: One of the top bobsledders in the world and leader of the four-man American team, Steven Holcomb had finished sixth in the 2006 Olympics and medaled in nearly every competition he entered. He was considered a strong gold contender for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games. Talented, aggressive, and fearless, he was at the top of his game. But Steven Holcomb had a dangerous secret. Steven Holcomb was going blind. In the prime of his athletic career, he was diagnosed with keratoconus—a degenerative disease affecting 1 in 1,000 and leaving 1 in 4 totally blind without a cornea transplant. In the world of competitive sports, it was a dream killer. Not a sport for the timid, bobsledding speeds approach 100 miles per hour through a series of hairpin turns. Serious injuries—even deaths—can result. But Holcomb kept his secret from his coach, sled mates, and the public for months and continued to drive the legendary sled The Night Train. When he finally told his coach, Holcomb was led to a revolutionary treatment, later named the Holcomb C3-R. With his sight restored to 20/20, Holcomb became the first American in 50 years to win the International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation World Championship, and the first American bobsledder since 1948 to win the Olympic gold medal. With a foreword by Geoff Bodine, NASCAR champion and founder of the Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project, But Now I See is the intimate portrait of a man's pursuit of a dream, laced with humility and the faith to find a way when all seems hopeless. It's about knowing anything is possible and the gift of a second chance.

Book excerpt: What is life to the full? Our souls long for a life that is full and flourishing, but so often it feels beyond our reach. Blinded by false rewards and temporary relief, we look to sources that promise happiness and wholeness. We attempt to fill our lives with more, increasing our pace and capacity, but accumulation doesn't ever seem to satisfy. We see the circumstantial evidence that others might have found this sort of life, but we cannot seem to experience it for ourselves. We get it, but we don't have it. This book is an invitation to life to the full. Through story and metaphor, ancient wisdom and modern understanding, we are invited on a journey to understand that flourishing is not about circumstance, but about relationship. Life to the full begins when we see the person of Jesus Christ. When we see this relationship in an entirely new light, we discover a fullness deeper than we imagined. Vision Up. Vision In. Vision Out. Come and See.

Book excerpt: At nineteen years old, Nicole C. Kear's biggest concern is choosing a major--until she walks into a doctor's office in midtown Manhattan and gets a life-changing diagnosis. She is going blind, courtesy of an eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa, and has only a decade or so before Lights Out. Instead of making preparations as the doctor suggests, Kear decides to carpe diem and make the most of the vision she has left. She joins circus school, tears through boyfriends, travels the world, and through all these hi-jinks, she keeps her vision loss a secret. When Kear becomes a mother, just a few years shy of her vision's expiration date, she amends her carpe diem strategy, giving up recklessness in order to relish every moment with her kids. Her secret, though, is harder to surrender - and as her vision deteriorates, harder to keep hidden. As her world grows blurred, one thing becomes clear: no matter how hard she fights, she won't win the battle against blindness. But if she comes clean with her secret, and comes to terms with the loss, she can still win her happy ending. Told with humor and irreverence, Now I See You is an uplifting story about refusing to cower at life's curveballs, about the power of love to triumph over fear. But, at its core, it's a story about acceptance: facing the truths that just won't go away, and facing yourself, broken parts and all.

Book excerpt: Once I Was Blind, But Now I See is a book written for all Christians, to give testimony to God's ever-present hand in our lives. For those who are outside the Christian faith, outside the Catholic Church, or simply feeling distant and questioning if God is really here, I believe this book will transform their lives. The book draws its readers into the same desire for communion with God and the Church, whichCharles Piccirilli has personally experienced. There is a great need for this type of personal testimony today, addressing the lack of hope in our culture, to which John Paul II said, "to show the faithful souls the unspeakable riches of the love of Christ."

It will give parents great hope.” — Temple Grandin, author of Thinking in Pictures “This magnificent work vividly demonstrates the joy and hope of discovering the creative and emotional capacities which exist in all children, but especially in those children with autism and other special needs.” — Dr. Stanley Greenspan, author of The Child with Special Needs and Engaging Autism When her son Neal was diagnosed with autism, former Hollywood acting coach Elaine Hall, aka “Coach E,” took matters into her own hands and used her resources to guide him toward an increasingly independent life. In the process, she founded The Miracle Project, a groundbreaking organization that uses the performing arts to connect with children with autism. Both controversial and unorthodox, Hall’s innovative approach has been praised by leaders in the field of autism. She was also the subject of an Emmy-Award-winning documentary Autism: The Musical. Hall now speaks around the country sharing her wisdom. Now I See the Moon is a story of hope, faith, and miracles; it is a story only a mother could tell.

Book excerpt: "You are legally blind." With these four words Jim Hindman, renowned entrepreneur and founder of Jiffy Lube International, faced the biggest challenge of his life at age 57 when he was diagnosed with macular degeneration, an age-related progressive disease that leads, eventually, to blindness. Throughout his successful career, Hindman always met challenges head-on, but nothing prepared him for the impact of macular degeneration. Fearlessly embarking on a more than 20 year exploration with multiple physicians throughout the United States, Hindman refused to give up until he found a way back through the darkness; innovative new medical procedures and technologies ultimately restored his vision after he successfully underwent surgery for the implantable miniature telescope. In Was blind, but now I see, Hindman shares his remarkable journey to recovery, his setbacks, and dramatic achievements. Woven throughout his inspirational account is a rags-to-riches story featuring many of the lessons he learned as kid on the streets of Sioux City, shining shoes and selling newspapers, to become a self-made millionaire by 35. All proceeds will go to education, rehabilitation, and research for macular degeneration and low vision efforts.

Book excerpt: Daniel Hill will never forget the day he heard these words: "Daniel, you may be white, but don't let that lull you into thinking you have no culture. White culture is very real. In fact, when white culture comes in contact with other cultures, it almost always wins. So it would be a really good idea for you to learn about your culture." Confused and unsettled by this encounter, Hill began a journey of understanding his own white identity. Today he is an active participant in addressing and confronting racial and systemic injustices. And in this compelling and timely book, he shows you the seven stages to expect on your own path to cultural awakening. It's crucial to understand both personal and social realities in the areas of race, culture, and identity. This book will give you a new perspective on being white and also empower you to be an agent of reconciliation in our increasingly diverse and divided world.

Book excerpt: Joseph Danielson started life like most Christian children. He was shy, humble, and obedient. Joseph loved reading the Bible, especially with his father. Joseph and his father had long talks about his favorite stories in the Bible. During these talks, Joseph's mother would sit with them enjoying how they talked with each other. She sometimes helped explain scripture in a simple way Joseph could understand. This normal life soon changed, in ways Joseph couldn't deal with properly. With each challenge, Joseph's faith sees him through. Then a greater challenge would fall on him, and yet again his faith would see him through. Joseph found himself facing true evil, and it took an agent of heaven to help him survive. You will see him grow with each challenge. You will see how the people around him respond to his growth. Joseph not only finds how powerful scripture can be against evil, he also discovers how much evil has always been around him that he couldn't see.

Two and a half hours later, the boat reappeared at the other end of the tunnel carrying only one of the students, Matthew. He had been knocked unconscious and has no memory of what took place in the tunnel. The police suspect he killed his friends, hid the bodies and later moved them to an undisclosed location. But sitting in a cell awaiting trial, Matthew maintains his innocence. When Matthew contacts a famous author asking him for help in return for information he claims to possess about the author’s long-lost wife, it’s an offer that can’t be refused. But before the author can prove Matthew’s innocence, he must first answer a far more unusual question: How did five bodies disappear into thin air?

Stephanie Rische was starting to feel invisible. All around her, her friends were getting married, and she found herself decidedly alone. Stephanie couldn’t help but wonder if there was something broken in her—was she not pretty enough? Not fun enough? Not dateable enough (whatever that meant)? So she started praying in earnest for God to bring the right man into her life. And instead, He brought her matchmakers. Eight of them, to be precise. Beloved blogger Stephanie Rische debuts with this charming, vulnerable, and (who are we kidding?) often mortifying true story of a girl who tried really hard to find someone to fall in love with—even when she mostly just ended up falling flat on her face. But amid the most cringeworthy setups and awkward encounters, Stephanie found God’s grace and love meeting her there in ways she never could have imagined—once she opened her eyes to see.
