Book Synopsis Hazardous Metals in the Environment by : M. Stoeppler
Download or read book Hazardous Metals in the Environment written by M. Stoeppler and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1992-04-13 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The execution of detailed studies on the fate and levels of hazardous elements in the environment, foodstuffs and in human beings has become a major task in environmental research and especially in analytical chemistry. This has led to a demand to develop new methodology and optimize that already in use. The book offers the reader a general introduction to the problem areas that are currently being tackled, followed by chapters on sampling and sample preservation, strategies and applications of the archiving of selected representative specimens for long-term storage in environmental specimen banks. This is supplemented by the example of wine as a preserved - frequently, already historical - specimen which clearly reflects technological changes over time. The following chapters review sample treatment, present an overview on the most frequently and successfully applied trace analytical methods for metals and metal compounds, and introduce the increasingly important methods for identifying and quantifying metal species in sediments and soils (speciation). The chapters in the second part of the book provide data on analytical methods for determining the levels of toxicologically, ecotoxicologically and ecologically important elements in environmental and biological materials, including information on the separation and quantification of chemical and organomatallic species. The elements treated are aluminium, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, lead, mercury, nickel, selenium and thallium. The final chapter treats quality assurance and the importance of the continuous use of appropriate reference materials to avoid erroneous results.
Book Synopsis Analysis of Ancient Metals by : Earle R. Caley
Download or read book Analysis of Ancient Metals written by Earle R. Caley and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of Ancient Metals provides a guide to the identification and analysis of ancient metals and alloys. The title details the various analytical methods and procedures in dealing with different metals and alloys. The text first discusses the heterogeneity of ancient metals and the sampling problem, and then proceeds to covering preliminary observations and measurements, qualitative tests, and choice of quantitative method. The next series of chapters details the methods and procedures in the analysis of gold, silver, copper, iron, and steel, as well as various nonferrous metals. The last chapter discusses the concerns in reporting the findings. The book will be of great interest to materials engineers and metallurgists. Archeologists and museologists will also greatly benefit from the text.

Book Synopsis Methods for the Determination of Metals in Environmental Samples by : Us Epa
Download or read book Methods for the Determination of Metals in Environmental Samples written by Us Epa and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-08-20 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods for the Determination of Metals in Environmental Samples presents a detailed description of 13 analytical methods covering 35 analytes that may be present in a variety of sample types. The methods involve a wide range of analytical instrumentation including inductively coupled plasma (ICP)/atomic emission spectroscopy (AES), ICP/mass spectroscopy (MS), atomic absorption (AA) spectroscopy, ion chromatography (IC), and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The application of these techniques to such a diverse group of sample types is a unique feature of this book. Sample types include waters ranging from drinking water to marine water, in addition to industrial and municipal wastewater, groundwater, and landfill leachate. The book also includes methods that will accommodate biological tissues, sediments, and soils. Methods in this book can be used in several regulatory programs because of their applicability to many sample types. For example, ICP/AES, ICP/MS, and AA methods can be used in drinking water and permit programs. Methods applicable to marine and estuarine waters can be used for the EPA's National Estuary Program. Terminology is consistent throughout the book, an important feature especially for the quality control sections where standardized terminology is not yet available. Methods for the Determination of Metals in Environmental Samples is an indispensable methods guide for all environmetal labs, wastewater labs, drinking water labs, lab managers, consultants, and groundwater engineers.

Book Synopsis Analytical Methods High-Melting Metals by :
Download or read book Analytical Methods High-Melting Metals written by and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-12-06 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In solid state physics and in materials science the investigation of the connection between the properties of solids and their microstructure is of major importance. For crystalline materials this connection is related to the lattice structure, and it can be shown convinc ingly that the material properties depend on deviations from the ideal lattice structure in the majority of cases. For this reason a reliable detection and analysis of defects in "nearly perfect" crystals is necessary, and a sufficient spatial resolution of the methods applied is required. Because electrons on the one hand strongly interact with the matter to be investigated and on the other hand can easily be focused electron-optical methods are very advantageous for this purpose. They are used in the diffraction mode, in the imaging mode and in the spectroscopic mode. The attainable high lateral resolution in the imaging mode makes the application of electron microscopy especially effective. Although already valuable information on crystal defects can be gained by using the routine technique of diffraction contrast imagingl-3) which has a resolution of some 4 10 nm - in the special weak-beam technique ) of some nm -, the detection of crystal defects and inhomogeneities, resp. on an atomic or molecular level by the aid of high resolution electron microscopy gets increasing importance.

Book Synopsis Trace Element Speciation Analytical Methods and Problems by : Graeme E. Batley
Download or read book Trace Element Speciation Analytical Methods and Problems written by Graeme E. Batley and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1989-06-30 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses in detail the application of physical separation procedures together with modern instrumental analysis techniques such as HPLC, gas chromatography, and anodic strip-ping voltammetry. Particular emphasis is given to environmental samples where the greatest concern for the effects of speciation on trace element transport, toxicity, and bioavailability have been ex-pressed. Special chapters are also devoted to methods of sam-pling and storage, and to the mathematical modeling of chemical speciation. Although designed for the practical analytical chemist, this publication is essential reading for researchers in or entering the field of chemical speciation.
