This book was released on 1973 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A finite element computer code called WESTES was developed to study the influences of laboratory testing equipment on the states of stress and strain induced in cylindrical specimens of earth media. The code can solve general static, axisymmetric, boundary value problems and is programmed to take an incremental, nonlinear constitutive model called the Variable Moduli Model II. Some of the special features of the code include the ability to simulate cyclic (load/unload/reload) laboratory tests using iterative treatments at the load/unload and unload/reload interfaces and special logic to separately handle loading and unloading in the volumetric and deviatoric stress components as dictated by the constitutive model. Download or read book The Pressuremeter and Its New Avenues written by Gerard Ballivy and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pressuremeter testing activities are of great interest for scientists and engineers concerned with the mechanical behaviour of civil engineering materials. The proceedings include the first Menard Lecture presented by Professor Branko Ladanyi and 57 technical papers from 16 countries. They are related to the application of pressuremeter testing to granular and alluvial soils, clay, rock, concrete and permafrost, and geotechnical design. It also includes a session on technological developments in the design, fabrication and installation of pressuremeters.

Book Synopsis Micromechanics of Granular Materials by : Massao Satake
Download or read book Micromechanics of Granular Materials written by Massao Satake and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings volume contains papers from researchers in Japan, the United States and England who have made fundamental contributions to the micromechanics of granular materials. The purpose of the seminar was to facilitate an exchange of ideas between scientists working with statistical and continuum theories, computer simulations and experiments on both static and dynamic behaviour. In describing the solid like behaviour of granular materials, many new ideas on the constitutive relations are introduced in this volume. As an application of the analysis, the mechanism of liquefaction is discussed. Computer simulations have become a vital tool in establishing the micromechanical approaches which otherwise would not be experimentally tested. In numerical simulations and theoretical analyses of rapid granular flow, various modifications on the nature of materials and boundaries are given. Possible applications of the techniques of the stereology and analysis based on geometrical statistics are also included. The papers collected in this volume signify that the promotion of a good understanding of the mechanics of granular materials has been and will continue to be valued in a variety of technical disciplines.

Book excerpt: Reflecting the current research and advances made in the application of numerical methods in geotechnical engineering, this volume details proceedings of the Ninth International Symposium on 'Numerical Models in Geomechanics - NUMOG IX' held in Ottawa, Canada, 25-27 August 2004. Highlighting a number of new developments in the area, papers concentrate upon the following four main areas: * constitutive relations for geomaterials * numerical algorithms: formulation and performance * modelling of transient, coupled and dynamic problems * application of numerical techniques to practical problems. Representing the most advanced, modern findings in the field, Numerical Models in Geomechanics is a comprehensive and impeccably-researched text, ideal for students and researchers as well as practising engineers.
