Book excerpt: Networked Non-linear Stochastic Time-Varying Systems: Analysis and Synthesis copes with the filter design, fault estimation and reliable control problems for different classes of nonlinear stochastic time-varying systems with network-enhanced complexities. Divided into three parts, the book discusses the finite-horizon filtering, fault estimation and reliable control, and randomly occurring nonlinearities/uncertainties followed by designing of distributed state and fault estimators, and distributed filters. The third part includes problems of variance-constrained H∞ state estimation, partial-nodes-based state estimation and recursive filtering for nonlinear time-varying complex networks with randomly varying topologies, and random coupling strengths. Offers a comprehensive treatment of the topics related to Networked Nonlinear Stochastic Time-Varying Systems with rigorous math foundation and derivation Unifies existing and emerging concepts concerning control/filtering/estimation and distributed filtering Provides a series of latest results by drawing on the conventional theories of systems science, control engineering and signal processing Deal with practical engineering problems such as event triggered H∞ filtering, non-fragile distributed estimation, recursive filtering, set-membership filtering Demonstrates illustrative examples in each chapter to verify the correctness of the proposed results This book is aimed at engineers, mathematicians, scientists, and upper-level students in the fields of control engineering, signal processing, networked control systems, robotics, data analysis, and automation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is shown what measurements to perform on a system that is randomly time-varying and linear, but otherwise unknown, to completely characterize it. The success of these measurements depends on a representation of a randomly time-varying linear system different from those commonly used. It is shown what measurements to perform on a randomly time-varying linear system to predict the auto-correlation function of the output signal from the autocorrelation function of the input signal when the input is a stationary random process. It is shown what measurements must be performed on a randomly time-varying linear system to design a linear open-loop controller which is optimum in the mean square sense. These measurements are simpler than the measurement of the autocorrelation function transfer relation. Experimental results concerning measurement and system performance were accomplished by applying a white Gaussian test signal to the unknown system and measuring statistical averages of quantities obtained by jointly manipulating the input and resulting output. Book excerpt: This analysis considers the estimation of the second-order statistical characteristics of a randomly time-varying linear system by application of a known input signal and observation of the resulting output which may be obscured by additive white noise. The system is characterized by its impulse response correlation function f(tau lambda) and is approxim ted by a sampled-data model. It is shown that the estimation of the sampled values of f(tau lambda) is equivalent to the estimation of the parameters of the covariance matrix of a vector random variable. A least squares method is introduced which provides explicit estimates for these values in terms of the sampled input and output sequences. It is shown that these least squares estimates are unbiased and consistent under general conditions. For Gaussian noise and coherent nondetectability conditions (low input signal-tonoise ratio) the least squares estimates are a close approximation to the maximum likelihood estimates. The covariance matrix of the estimates is evaluated for this case and is found to be the same as that given by the Cramer-Rao lower bound. Both the low-pass and band-pass situations are discussed. Specific results for a periodic rectangular pulse input and pseudo-random input are given. (Author).

Book excerpt: As a result of higher frequencies and increased user mobility, researchers and systems designers are shifting their focus from time-invariant models to channels that vary within a block. Wireless Communications Over Rapidly Time-Varying Channels explains the latest theoretical advances and practical methods to give an understanding of rapidly time varying channels, together with performance trade-offs and potential performance gains, providing the expertise to develop future wireless systems technology. As well as an overview of the issues of developing wireless systems using time-varying channels, the book gives extensive coverage to methods for estimating and equalizing rapidly time-varying channels, including a discussion of training data optimization, as well as providing models and transceiver methods for time-varying ultra-wideband channels. An introduction to time-varying channel models gives in a nutshell the important issues of developing wireless systems technology using time-varying channels Extensive coverage of methods for estimating and equalizing rapidly time-varying channels, including a discussion of training data optimization, enables development of high performance wireless systems Chapters on transceiver design for OFDM and receiver algorithms for MIMO communication channels over time-varying channels, with an emphasis on modern iterative turbo-style architectures, demonstrates how these important technologies can optimize future wireless systems

It presents various Zhang dynamics (ZD) models by defining various Zhang functions (ZFs) in real and complex domains. It then provides theoretical analyses of such ZD models and illustrates their results. It also uses simulations to substantiate their efficacy and show the feasibility of the presented ZD approach (i.e., different ZFs leading to different ZD models), which is further applied to the repetitive motion planning (RMP) of redundant robots, showing its application potential.

Book excerpt: Stochastic Control and Filtering over Constrained Communication Networks presents up-to-date research developments and novel methodologies on stochastic control and filtering for networked systems under constrained communication networks. It provides a framework of optimal controller/filter design, resilient filter design, stability and performance analysis for the systems considered, subject to various kinds of communication constraints, including signal-to-noise constraints, bandwidth constraints, and packet drops. Several techniques are employed to develop the controllers and filters desired, including: recursive Riccati equations; matrix decomposition; optimal estimation theory; and mathematical optimization methods. Readers will benefit from the book’s new concepts, models and methodologies that have practical significance in control engineering and signal processing. Stochastic Control and Filtering over Constrained Communication Networks is a practical research reference for engineers dealing with networked control and filtering problems. It is also of interest to academics and students working in control and communication networks.

Book excerpt: This book primarily illustrates the rationale, design and technical realization/verification for the cooperative guidance and control systems (CGCSs) of missile autonomous formation (MAF). From the seven functions to the five major compositions of CGCS, the book systematically explains the theory and modeling, analysis, synthesis and design of CGCSs for MAF, including bionics-based theories. Further, the book addresses how to create corresponding digital simulation analysis systems, as well as hardware in the loop (HIL) simulation test systems and flight test systems, to evaluate the combat effectiveness of MAF. Lastly, it provides detailed information on digital simulation analysis for a large range of wind tunnel test data, as well as test results of HIL system simulations and embedded systems testing.

This book was released on 1998 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume develops a systematic study of time-dependent control processes. The basic problem of null controllability of linear systems is first considered. Using methods of ergodic theory and topological dynamics, general local null controllability criteria are given. Then the subtle question of global null controllability is studied. Next, the random linear feedback and stabilization problem is posed and solved. Using concepts of exponential dichotomy and rotation number for linear Hamiltonian systems, a solution of the Riccati equation is obtained which has extremely good robustness properties and which also preserves all the smoothness and recurrence properties of the coefficients. Finally, a general version of the local nonlinear feedback stabilization problem is solved.
