Book Synopsis Analysis of Shells and Plates by : Phillip L. Gould
Download or read book Analysis of Shells and Plates written by Phillip L. Gould and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study ofthree-dimensional continua has been a traditional part of graduate education in solid mechanics for some time. With rational simplifications to the three-dimensional theory of elasticity, the engineering theories of medium-thin plates and of thin shells may be derived and applied to a large class of engi neering structures distinguished by a characteristically small dimension in one direction. Often, these theories are developed somewhat independently due to their distinctive geometrical and load-resistance characteristics. On the other hand, the two systems share a common basis and might be unified under the classification of Surface Structures after the German term Fliichentragwerke. This common basis is fully exploited in this book. A substantial portion of many traditional approaches to this subject has been devoted to constructing classical and approximate solutions to the governing equations of the system in order to proceed with applications. Within the context of analytical, as opposed to numerical, approaches, the limited general ity of many such solutions has been a formidable obstacle to applications involving complex geometry, material properties, and/or loading. It is now relatively routine to obtain computer-based solutions to quite complicated situations. However, the choice of the proper problem to solve through the selection of the mathematical model remains a human rather than a machine task and requires a basis in the theory of the subject.
Book Synopsis The Finite Strip Method by : Y. K. Cheung
Download or read book The Finite Strip Method written by Y. K. Cheung and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-07-01 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increase in the popularity and the number of potential applications of the finite strip method has created a demand for a definitive text/reference on the subject. Fulfilling this demand, The Finite Strip Method provides practicing engineers, researchers, and students with a comprehensive introduction and theoretical development, and a complete treatment of current practical applications of the method. Written by experts who are arguably the world's leading authorities in the field, The Finite Strip Method covers both the classical strip and the newly developed spline strip and computed shape function strip. Applications in structural engineering, with particular focus on practical structures such as slab-beam bridges, box girder bridges, and tall buildings are discussed extensively. Applications in geotechnology are also covered, as are recently formulated applications in nonlinear analysis. The Finite Strip Method is a unique book, supplying much-needed information by well-known and highly regarded authors.

Book Synopsis Steel Plated Structures by : M. Ivanyi
Download or read book Steel Plated Structures written by M. Ivanyi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-04 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume strives to give comprehensive information about the main aspects of the behaviour and limit states of steel plated structures. In following this objective, the volume presents a complete scientific background (profiting from the fact that the authors of the individual parts of the publication have personally been very active in the corresponding fields of research for an extended period of time), but also establishes design recommendations, procedures and formulae. The significance of the volume may be seen in its challenging current concepts of the analysis of steel plated structures, encouraging progress in the field, and thereby establishing an advanced basis for a more reliable and economical design.

Book Synopsis Analysis and Design of Bridges by : C. Yilmaz
Download or read book Analysis and Design of Bridges written by C. Yilmaz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Proceedings of the NATO Advanced Study Institute on Analysis and Design of Bridges held at ~e§me, lzmir, Turkey from 28 June 1982 to 9 July 1982 are contained in the present volume. The Advanced Study Institute was attended by 37 lecturers and participants from 10 different countries. The Organizing Committee consisted of Professors P. Gtilkan, A. C. Scordelis, S. T. Wasti and 9. Yl. lmaz. The guidelines set by NATO for the Advanced Study Institute require it to serve not only as an efficient forum for the dissemination of available advanced knowledge to a selected group of qualified people but also as a platform for the exploration of future research possibilities in the scientific or engineering areas concerned. The main topics covered by the present Advanced Study Institute were the mathematical modelling of bridges for better analysis and the scientific assessment of bridge behaviour for the introduction of improved design procedures. It has been our observation that as a result of the range and depth of the lectures presented and the many informal discussions that took place, ideas became fissile, the stimulus never flagged and many gaps in the engineering knowledge of the participants were "bridged". Here we particularly wish to mention that valuable informal presenta tions of research work were made during the course of the Institute by Drs. Friedrich, Karaesmen, Lamas and Parker.
