Download or read book Méthodes et outils pour l'analyse phonétique des grands corpus oraux written by NGUYEN Noël and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Pitch Determination of Speech Signals by : W. Hess
Download or read book Pitch Determination of Speech Signals written by W. Hess and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 713 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pitch (i.e., fundamental frequency FO and fundamental period TO) occupies a key position in the acoustic speech signal. The prosodic information of an utterance is predominantly determined by this parameter. The ear is more sensitive to changes of fundamental frequency than to changes of other speech signal parameters by an order of magnitude. The quality of vocoded speech is essentially influenced by the quality and faultlessness of the pitch measure ment. Hence the importance of this parameter necessitates using good and reliable measurement methods. At first glance the task looks simple: one just has to detect the funda mental frequency or period of a quasi-periodic signal. For a number of reasons, however, the task of pitch determination has to be counted among the most difficult problems in speech analysis. 1) In principle, speech is a nonstationary process; the momentary position of the vocal tract may change abruptly at any time. This leads to drastic variations in the temporal structure of the signal, even between subsequent pitch periods, and assuming a quasi-periodic signal is often far from realistic. 2) Due to the flexibility of the human vocal tract and the wide variety of voices, there exist a multitude of possible temporal structures. Narrow-band formants at low harmonics (especially at the second or third harmonic) are an additional source of difficulty. 3) For an arbitrary speech signal uttered by an unknown speaker, the fundamental frequency can vary over a range of almost four octaves (50 to 800 Hz).

Book Synopsis Pattern Recognition and Signal Processing by : C.H. Chen
Download or read book Pattern Recognition and Signal Processing written by C.H. Chen and published by Springer. This book was released on 1978-12-31 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both pattern recognition and signal processing are rapidly growing areas. Organized with emphasis on many inter-relations between the two areas, a NATO Advanced Study Institute on Pattern Recognition and Signal Processing was held June 25th - July 4, 1978 at the E.N.S.T. (Department of Electronics) in Paris, France. This volume is the Proceedings of the Institute. It contains what I believed to be a truly outstanding collection of papers which cover all major activities in both pattern recognition and signal processing. The papers are grouped by topics as follows: I. Syntactic Methods: paper numbers 1, 2. II. Statistical Methods: paper numbers 3, 4, 5, 6. III. Detection and Estimation: paper numbers 7, 8. IV. Image Processing, Modelling, and Analysis: paper numbers 9, 10, 11, 12. V. Speech Application: paper numbers 13, 14. VI. Radar Application: paper number 15. Seismic Application: paper number 16. VII. Biomedical Application: paper numbers 17, 18, 19. VIII. IX. Reconstruction From Projections: paper numbers 20, 21- X. Signal Modelling and Application: paper numbers 22, 23, 24. XI. NATO Pattern Recognition Research Study Group Report: paper number 25. It is my strong belief that there is a need for continuing interaction between pattern recognition and signal processing. The book will serve as a useful text and reference for such a need, and for both areas. Finally on behalf of all participants of the Institute, I would like to thank Drs. T. Kester and M. N. Czdas of NATO for their support.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A great number of scientists in European research institutions is involved in one or more aspects of the multidisciplinary field of signal processing. This book contains concise descriptions of the activities and interests of 379 signal proces sing laboratories from 17 European countries. Its purpose is twofold: to facilitate communications between institutions and individual scientists within the signal pro cessing community - and to give an expose of the combined European signal processing research effort. This publication is the result of a survey which was made in the fall of 1983 by the European Association for Signal Processing EURASIP. EURASIP is a non-profit professional organization which aims at the improvement of communications between groups and individuals working in the field of signal pro cessing in Europe or elsewhere, and to exchange and disseminate information in the field allover the world. EURASIP arranges workshops and conferences, e.g., the European Signal Processing Conferences EUSIPCO, and publishes the journals SIGNAL PROCESSING and SPEECH COMMUNICATION.
