Book Synopsis Urban Overheating - Progress on Mitigation Science and Engineering Applications by : Michele Zinzi
Download or read book Urban Overheating - Progress on Mitigation Science and Engineering Applications written by Michele Zinzi and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-04-04 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The combination of global warming and urban sprawl is the origin of the most hazardous climate change effect detected at urban level: Urban Heat Island, representing the urban overheating respect to the countryside surrounding the city. This book includes 18 papers representing the state of the art of detection, assessment mitigation and adaption to urban overheating. Advanced methods, strategies and technologies are here analyzed including relevant issues as: the role of urban materials and fabrics on urban climate and their potential mitigation, the impact of greenery and vegetation to reduce urban temperatures and improve the thermal comfort, the role the urban geometry in the air temperature rise, the use of satellite and ground data to assess and quantify the urban overheating and develop mitigation solutions, calculation methods and application to predict and assess mitigation scenarios. The outcomes of the book are thus relevant for a wide multidisciplinary audience, including: environmental scientists and engineers, architect and urban planners, policy makers and students.

Download or read book Glass Science written by R. H. Doremus and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1994-04 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This Second Edition of Robert H. Doremus's classic, Glass Science, has been extensively revised and updated to reflect recent advances, while retaining the pedagogical structure that made its predecessor a superb tool for both teaching and professional research. Special emphasis is placed on areas of research that have been particularly active in recent years. Two new chapters have been added: one covers chemical durability [the reaction of glass with water], which includes recent work related to corrosion of glass and radioactive waste disposal: the other concerns the reaction of gasses with glass, especially oxygen. Other new or expanded discussions cover recent advances in the structure of glass, zirconium fluoride glasses, and electrical conductivity of glass.".
Book Synopsis Ceramics, Glass and Glass-Ceramics by : Francesco Baino
Download or read book Ceramics, Glass and Glass-Ceramics written by Francesco Baino and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-22 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a state-of-the-art overview of the major aspects involved in the science, technology and applications of ceramics, glasses and glass-ceramics. After providing an historical perspective of the development and use of ceramics and glasses along the Silk Road, the theoretical background and fabrication techniques of such materials are described and discussed. A special focus is dedicated to emerging high-tech applications in various fields, including medicine, energy, optics and photonics, sensors, sustainability and circular economy. The chapters are written by leading experts in their respective fields and highlight the contemporary challenges associated to each topic. This book will serve as a valuable reference for both early-stage and skilled researchers as well as industry professionals interested in the broad field of glasses and ceramics.
Book Synopsis How Things Work by : Louis A. Bloomfield
Download or read book How Things Work written by Louis A. Bloomfield and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-12-15 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How Things Work provides an accessible introduction to physics for the non-science student. Like the previous editions it employs everyday objects, with which students are familiar, in case studies to explain the most essential physics concepts of day-to-day life. Lou Bloomfield takes seemingly highly complex devices and strips away the complexity to show how at their heart are simple physics ideas. Once these concepts are understood, they can be used to understand the behavior of many devices encountered in everyday life. The sixth edition uses the power of WileyPLUS Learning Space with Orion to give students the opportunity to actively practice the physics concepts presented in this edition. This text is an unbound, three hole punched version. Access to WileyPLUS sold separately.

Book Synopsis La dégradation des bétons by : Jean-Michel Torrenti
Download or read book La dégradation des bétons written by Jean-Michel Torrenti and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
