Tais unidades não mais operam independentemente no que se refere ao desenvolvimento de novos produtos, mas, ao contrário, estão sendo integradas para tirar proveito da sinergia do trabalho em conjunto e paralelo entre diferentes unidades durante o desenvolvimento. Por se tratar de assunto relativamente atual, a maioria da literatura sobre gerenciamento de projetos não aborda as nuanças inerentes a este tipo de situação. Neste trabalho, portanto, procura-se levantar, segundo pesquisa bibliográfica e um estudo de caso de uma empresa automotiva multinacional sueca instalada no Brasil, como se pode coordenar atividades e informações entre equipes culturalmente e geograficamente dispersas, a fim de atingir um objetivo comum. Uma vez caracterizadas tais particularidades, este estudo explora maneiras de adaptar os processos envolvidos para sugerir possibilidades de melhorias.
