Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exercise testing is widely used all over the world to assess functional capacity in athletes, healthy subjects and patients. According to recent surveys, the interest in ergometry is still growing in almost all fields of medicine, especially in private practice. Furthermore, there has been an exponential growth in the number of publications on exercise testing in the last years. Several consensus and task force conferences have dealt with exercise testing and published recommendations on standardization and guidelines in ergometry. These factors have, in combination, initiated an upsurge in research and clinical use of exercise testing. At the 6th International Seminar on Ergometry the latest findings and advances in ergometry were discussed. Reviews and results of the congress covering a wide range of features in exercise testing are presented in this book. The editors hope that this book will make a substantial contribution to our knowledge regarding exercise testing and will help physicians to appropriately evaluate exercise testing in healthy and diseased subjects. The editors are indepted to Miss I. Baumgartner and Mr. W. Reith for their effort in typing and preparing the manuscripts. The editors are greatful to Springer-Verlag for the close cooperation and for their expertise in publishing the present volume. N. Bachl T. Graham H. Lallgen Contents W. Book Synopsis The Intensity of Exercise Eliciting Maximal Fat Oxidation by : David E. Lankford
Download or read book The Intensity of Exercise Eliciting Maximal Fat Oxidation written by David E. Lankford and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine whether exercise training alters the intensity of exercise at which maximal fat oxidation rates (IEMF) occur during a submaximal graded exercise test (GXT) while controlling for diet and percent body fat (BF), and accounting for blood glucose and triglycerides. Fifty-one untrained college-aged males participated in the study. Based on initial percent BF, participants were randomly assigned to a low fat training group (LFT, 13% BF, n = 13) or a low fat control group (LFC, 13% BF, n = 12); or to a high fat training group (HFT, 20% BF, n = 14) or a high fat control group (HFC, 20% BF, n = 12). During the submaximal GXT, ventilatory threshold (VT) and lactate threshold (LT) were determined; subsequently all participants performed a maximal GXT to measure maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). Participants in both training groups performed eight weeks of exercise training wth VO2max increasing significantly (p
Book Synopsis Relationship Between a Two Mile Run and Maximal Oxygen Uptake by : Robert P. Mello
Download or read book Relationship Between a Two Mile Run and Maximal Oxygen Uptake written by Robert P. Mello and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between a maximal effort two-mile run for time and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) as measured by treadmill running. Subjects were forty-four males (aged 20-51) and seventeen females (aged 20-37) of various fitness and activity levels. All subjects performed a timed two mile run and a treadmill running test for maximal oxygen uptake. The coefficient of correlation between the treadmill maximal test and the two mile run test for all subjects was -0.91. Separate regression analyses for male and female data also displayed significant correlations (r sub m -0.91, r sub f -0.89). The addition fo such variables as age, height, weight, and % body fat did not improve the predictability of the equations. However, inclusion of body weight in the male equation did increase its predictive accuracy (SEE = 3.31 to 2.69). The high degree of the other. This study confirms the usefulness and validity of a timed 2 mile run test to indicate the level of aerobic fitness capacity when the test is properly supervised and the subjects are well-motivated. Keywords: Running performance, Predicted aerobic capacity, Maximal performance.
