This book was released on 2003 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for intense muon beams for muon colliders and for neutrino factories based on muon storage rings leads to a concept of 1-4 MW proton beams incident on a moving target that is inside a 20-T solenoid magnet, with a mercury jet as a preferred example. Novel technical issues for such a system include disruption of the mercury jet by the proton beam and distortion of the jet on entering the solenoid, as well as more conventional issues of materials lifetime and handling of activated materials in an intense radiation environment. As part of the R & D program of the Neutrino Factory and Muon Collider Collaboration, an R & D effort related to targetry is being performed within the context of experiment E951 at Brookhaven National Laboratory, first results of which are reported here.

Download or read book Neutrino Factory and Muon Collider Collaboration R and D Activities written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Neutrino Factory and Muon Collider Collaboration (MC) comprises about 140 U.S. and non-U.S. accelerator and particle physicists. The MC is carrying out an R and D program aimed at validating the critical design concepts required for the construction of such machines. We are committed to encouraging international cooperation and coordination of the R and D effort. Main activities of the MC include a Targetry program, a MUCOOL program, a component development program, and a theory and simulation effort. Moreover, the MC has participated in several feasibility studies for a complete Neutrino Factory facility, with the aim of identifying any additional R and D activities needed to prepare a Zeroth-order Design Report (ZDR) in about two years and a Conceptual Design report (CDR) about two years thereafter. In this paper, the R and D goals in each area will be indicated, and the present status and future plans of the R and D program will be described.

Download or read book 18th Advanced ICFA Beam Dynamics Workshop on Quantum Aspects of Beam Physics written by Pisin Chen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings volume records the advances in quantum beam physics since the first meeting in Monterey (1998). In addition to further progress regarding quantum effects in beam dynamics, photon-electron interaction in beam handling, beam phenomena under strong fields, and quantum methodologies in beam physics, the newly introduced topics ? the physics of condensed beams as well as astro-beam physics and laboratory astrophysics ? have also been well documented by world experts in the field. This book should be a valuable reference to those who are interested in the joint frontiers of beam physics and other fields such as astrophysics and condensed matter physics.

Book Synopsis R & D Toward a Neutrino Factory and Muon Collider by :
Download or read book R & D Toward a Neutrino Factory and Muon Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is considerable interest in the use of muon beams to create either an intense source of decay neutrinos aimed at a detector located 3000-7500 km away (a Neutrino Factory), or a Muon Collider that produces high-luminosity collisions at the energy frontier. R & D aimed at producing these facilities has been under way for more than 10 years. This paper will review experimental results from MuCool, MERIT, and MICE and indicate the extent to which they will provide proof-of-principle demonstrations of the key technologies required for a Neutrino Factory or Muon Collider. Progress in constructing components for the MICE experiment will also be described.
Book Synopsis Physics Potential and Development of Muon Colliders and Neutrino Factories by : David Cline
Download or read book Physics Potential and Development of Muon Colliders and Neutrino Factories written by David Cline and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2000-11-17 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings report the ever increasing interest and scientific case for the muon collider and the neutrino factory. There were intense sessions on the current design of neutrino factories in Europe, Japan, and in the USA, and there is growing evidence for a low-mass Higgs boson from the precision electroweak parameters to motivate the development of a Higgs factory. The twin themes of a neutrino factory and a Higgs factory have provided a possible plan for a future program in the USA. Some of the highlights of this conference were: The very latest news on the Higgs search at LEP II, the strong case for a low-mass Higgs, the push to find SUSY particles, the neutrino mass, the interesting possibility that the SuperKamiokande results could somehow be the result of neutrino decay, the beautiful arguments for a scalar collider, the summary of the future of CERN, and particle physics in general, and the overview of the Standard Model.
Book Synopsis Accelerator R & D Toward Muon Collider and Neutrino Factory by :
Download or read book Accelerator R & D Toward Muon Collider and Neutrino Factory written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last decade there has been significant progress in developing the concepts and technologies needed to produce, capture, accelerate and collide high intensity beams of muons. At present, a high-luminosity multi-TeV muon collider presents a viable option for the next generation lepton-lepton collider, which is believed to be needed to fully explore high energy physics in the era following LHC discoveries. Such a collider can offer superb energy resolution, smaller size, and potentially cost and power consumption compared to multi-TeV ee− linear colliders. This article briefly reviews the motivation, design and status of accelerator R & D for Muon Collider and Neutrino Factory.

Book Synopsis R & D Toward Neutrino Factories and Muon Colliders by :
Download or read book R & D Toward Neutrino Factories and Muon Colliders written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: R & D aimed at the production, acceleration, and storage of intense muon beams is under way in the U.S., in Europe, and in Japan. Considerable progress has been made in the past few years toward the design of a ''Neutrino Factory'' in which a beam of 20-50 GeV mu- or mu+ is stored. Decay neutrinos from the beam illuminate a detector located roughly 3000 km from the ring. Here, we briefly describe the ingredients of a Neutrino Factory and then discuss the current R & D program and its results. A key concept in the design is ''ionization cooling, '' a process whereby the muon emittance is reduced by repeated interactions with an absorber material followed by reacceleration with high-gradient rf cavities. Plans to test this concept in the Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment (MICE) are well along and are described briefly.
