Book excerpt: A numerical algorithm was developed for computing the nonlinear dynamic response of a ring-stiffened, nearly circular cylindrical shell of finite length under transient, axisymmetric radial loads of arbitrary axial distribution. Nonlinear Donnell-type equations were solved using Fourier series expansions of the dependent variables in the circumferential coordinate, modified finite difference approximations of the axial derivatives, and Newmark's beta-method, combined with Gauss elimination, for the time integration. The response of a simply supported shell under an exponentially decaying, uniform pressure was computed for peak pressures and total impulses between the static buckling limit and the dynamic buckling limit. The significance of damping, the initial imperfections, and the nonlinear coupling were also investigated. (Author).

This book was released on 1992 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two studies were performed to enhance the understanding of phenomena occurring in shell structures subjected to side-on underwater explosions. In the first, a numerical analysis was performed to investigate the non-linear response of cylindrical shells subjected to near-field side-on underwater explosions. In the second study, a numerical analysis of a cylindrical shell subjected to a far-field underwater explosion was compared with the results from an underwater explosion test. Sensitivity analyses were performed to determine the relative importance of various physical and numerical modelling factors.
Book Synopsis Dynamic Response of Cylindrical Shells to Moving Pressure Load by : Herbert Reismann
Download or read book Dynamic Response of Cylindrical Shells to Moving Pressure Load written by Herbert Reismann and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brief description of the results of an investigation concerned with an accuracy assessment of engineering theories of elastic plates and shells subjected to suddenly applied surface loads is given. The objective of the investigation was to generate exact solutions within the framework of different plate and shell theories to guide designers in their selection of the appropriate theory when analyzing 'light' construction under transient dynamical conditions. Download or read book Dynamic Pulse Buckling written by H.E. Lindberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book originally appeared as a text prepared for the Defense Nuclear Agency to summarize research on dynamic pulse buckling, by the authors and their colleagues at SRI International, during the period from 1960 to 1980. The original printing of 300 copies by the DNA Press was followed shortly by a small second printing to meet the demand by readers who heard of the book from the primary recipients. This supply was also quickly exhausted, to researchers and practicing engineers outside the DNA community and to academics who wanted to include the material in courses on elastic and plastic stability of structures. Commercial publication by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers was therefore undertaken to meet the needs of this broader community. The objective of the book was to gather into a cohesive whole material that had been published in reports and the open literature during the two decade period. In the process of knitting this material together, a substantial amount of new work was done. The book therefore contains many new results never published in the open literature.

This book was released on 1962 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The equations of motion for large deformation of a thin elastic cyl ndrical shell are derived and simplified to a form second order theory which is adequate for investigating the dynamic stability of the shell. A review of linear vibrations is presented. The response of a cylindrical shell to a uniform impulsive pressure is investigated. It is found that the circular mode of vibration, which is the basic response of the shell, may be unstable, the shell going over into bending modes of vibration. A criterion is established for predicting the bending modes excited. It is shown that the type of instability involved corresponds to what is known as autoparametric excitation in non-linear oscillations. Uniform impulsive pressure of sufficient magnitude to cause inward plastic flow is considered. The analysis is carried out for a stress-strain relation which includes purely viscous, viscoplastic, and linear strain hardening materials as special cases. It is shown that a series of wrinkles develop around the circumference as the shell flows inward. The wrinkling arises from magnification of the irregularities in the initial radial velocity due to the compressive membrane force in the shell. (Author).
