Download or read book An Investigation of Several NACA 1-series Nose Inlets with and Without Protruding Central Bodies at High-subsonic Mach Numbers and at a Mach Number of 1.2 written by Robert E. Pendley and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of three NACA 1-series nose inlets, two of which were fitted with protruded central bodies, was conducted in the Langley 8-foot high-speed tunnel. An elliptical-nose body, which had a critical Mach number approximately equal to that of one of the nose inlets, was also tested. Tests were made near zero angle of attack for a Mach number range from 0.4 to 0.925 and for the supersonic Mach number of 1.2. The inlet-velocity-ratio range extended from zero to a maximum value of 1.34. Measurements included pressure distribution, external drag, and total-pressure loss of the internal flow near the inlet. Drag was not measured for the tests at the supersonic Mach number.

This book was released on 1950 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A low-speed investigation has been conducted in the Langley two-dimensional low-turbulence tunnel to study a sweptback wing-root air-inlet configuration believed suitable for transonic-speed jet-powered airplanes. The test configurations consisted of a basic model with an NACA 64-008 wing with quarter-chord sweepback of 45 degrees mounted in the midwing position on a fuselage of fineness ratio 6.7, and an inlet model which had a triangular-shaped sweptback inlet installed in the wing root.

Book Synopsis Gust-load and Airspeed Data from One Type of Four-engine Airplane on Five Routes from 1947 to 1954 by : Walter G. Walker

This book was released on 1955 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents the results of an analysis of approximately 100,000 hours of V-G data from one type of four-engine civil transport airplane to determine the magnitude and frequency of occurrence of the gust loads and gusts. The data were obtained during routine operations from 1947 to 1954 on five different routes. The normal accelerations for each of the five operations may be expected to exceed the value corresponding to the limit-gust-load-factor increment, on the average, twice (once positive and once negative) within the range of 5,000,000 to 22,300,000 flight miles. A derived gust velocity of 50 feet per second was exceeded twice within the range of 600,000 to 1,900,000 flight miles. The gust loads of the present operations were less than the loads experienced by other four-engine civil transports previously investigated, but the differences are not significant. The present data indicated only small differences due to seasonal effects and different operational utilization.

Nielsen and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wing-body interference theory of NACA TN 2677 applied to symmetrical wings in combination with quasi-cylindrical bodies permits the direct calculation of pressure-distribution changes produced by body shape changes. This theory is used to determine the relative magnitued of the wave-drag reduction produced by changes in cylinder cross-sectional area and that produced changes in cross-sectional shape (without change in area). The body distortion is expressed as a Fourier series, and an integral equation is derived for the body shape for minimum drag for each Fourier component. Thus the wave-drag reductions for the various Fourier harmonics are independent and additive.

This book was released on 1955 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical calculations of the sound-pressure levels by the method of NACA TN 2968 predict accurately, for the 10-foot propeller investigated, the location of and the maximum levels to be expected for the overall noise and the first two propeller harmonics. The calculations do not predict accurately the location of the maximum sound-pressure levels ad the maximum calculated levels are 10 and 13 decibels lower than the msximm messured levels for the third and fourth harmonics, respectively.
