Download or read book Experimental Study of the Effects of Oil Viscosity, Permeability, Injection Rate and Wettability on the Waterflooding of Heavy Oil Reservoirs written by Ahmed Abubaker and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Waterflooding is one of the most common techniques used to improve oil recovery. Although waterflooding has been extensively implemented in light oil reservoirs, only a few waterflooding studies and field tests have been conducted in heavy oil reservoirs. Therefore, the effect of various operating and reservoir parameters on the performance of waterflooding in heavy oil reservoirs is not well understood.

Book Synopsis Oil in the Sea III by : National Research Council
Download or read book Oil in the Sea III written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-03-14 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the early 1970s, experts have recognized that petroleum pollutants were being discharged in marine waters worldwide, from oil spills, vessel operations, and land-based sources. Public attention to oil spills has forced improvements. Still, a considerable amount of oil is discharged yearly into sensitive coastal environments. Oil in the Sea provides the best available estimate of oil pollutant discharge into marine waters, including an evaluation of the methods for assessing petroleum load and a discussion about the concerns these loads represent. Featuring close-up looks at the Exxon Valdez spill and other notable events, the book identifies important research questions and makes recommendations for better analysis ofâ€"and more effective measures againstâ€"pollutant discharge. The book discusses: Inputâ€"where the discharges come from, including the role of two-stroke engines used on recreational craft. Behavior or fateâ€"how oil is affected by processes such as evaporation as it moves through the marine environment. Effectsâ€"what we know about the effects of petroleum hydrocarbons on marine organisms and ecosystems. Providing a needed update on a problem of international importance, this book will be of interest to energy policy makers, industry officials and managers, engineers and researchers, and advocates for the marine environment.

Book Synopsis Experimental Study About Radial Viscous Fingering in Heavy Oil Reservoir by : Zeyu Lin
Download or read book Experimental Study About Radial Viscous Fingering in Heavy Oil Reservoir written by Zeyu Lin and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Viscous fingering is an unstable flow phenomenon between two fluids with different viscosities, and it is widely found in many kinds of viscous displacements in nature, such as the flow of rainwater or contaminants through soil and flow of oil or natural gas through reservoirs. In petroleum industry, viscous fingering will be encountered frequently during waterflooding or chemical flooding in heavy oil production. Because of the exist of viscous fingering, the breakthrough time is shorted significantly, which causes oil and natural gas production decreases significantly. Many researches have been conducted to further study the mechanism of viscous fingering. Hele-Shaw model, sand-pack model, 3D model and micromodel are the four commonmodel used in this area. Most researchers prefer experimental study about linear displacement using sand-pack model and micromodel with low viscosity oil, while a few scientists prefer to simulater radial displacement using small scale micromodel such as one quarter of five spots model. Considering the flow patterns near wells, larger scale and range of oil viscosity, experiments about radial heavy oil displacement with large scale sand-pack model are needed. In this experimental study, seven groups of experiment are carried out: (1) using sand-pack model to learn the flow pattern of radial flow and compare with linear model and a quarter five spots model; (2) using sand-pack model to study the impact of injection rates of displacing water and viscosity of displaced oil under room temperature and pressure. Four kinds of oil samples with different viscosity (853.9cp, 2946cp, 8082cp, 32080cp) are chosen and the injection rate of displacing fluid varies from 0.01cc/min to 0.5cc/min (0.01cc/min, 0.05cc/min, 0.1cc/min and 0.5cc/min). The results of the experiment illustrate that the flow pattern of viscous fingering in the radial model can be divided into three stages: rapid fingering generation and growth, fingering combination and approximately stable displacement. During the process of displacement, there are also two types of fingering combinations: bottom to top combination and surrounding combination. Surrounding combination also can be divided into the incomplete and complete surrounding combination. The main reason for different flow patterns in the different experiments is discussed. In addition, the effect of injection rate and viscosity is analyzed based on experimental study. The conclusion is that both of injection rate and viscosity can influence the generation and growth of viscous fingering. However, for a specific regression equation between viscosity or injection rate with viscous fingering, more groups of the experiment are needed.

This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summary of International Energy Research and Development Activities 1974–1976 is a directory of energy research and development projects conducted in various countries such as Canada, Italy, Germany, France, Sweden, and the United Kingdom between 1974 and 1976. A limited number of projects sponsored by international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency are also included. This directory consists of nine chapters and opens with a section on organic sources of energy such as coal, oil and gas, peat, hydrocarbons, and non-fossil organic sources. The next sections focus on thermonuclear energy and plasma physics; fission sources and energy production; geophysical energy sources; conversion technology; and environmental aspects of energy conversion and use. Energy transport, transmission, utilization, and conservation are also covered. The final chapter deals with energy systems and other energy-related research on subjects ranging from car sharing and urban passenger transport to nuclear power plants, energy supply and demand models, and high-power molecular lasers. This monograph will be a valuable resource of information for those involved in energy research and development.
