This book was released on 1984 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lexington-Blue Grass Depot Activity, a part of the U.S. Army Depot Systems Command, receives, stores, issues, and disposes of ammunition and designated general supplies; and services radiological, electronic warfare, and general electronic equipment. The activity consists of two areas: the 780 acre Lexington Facility located 14 miles east of Lexington, Kentucky, and the Blue Grass Facility which occupies 14,596 acres six miles south of Richmond, Kentucky. The Lexington Facility (formerly the Lexington Signal Depot) was constructed in 1941-1942 as a major Signal Corps depot for storage of ground radar, other classified radio equipment, and special vehicles required to transport radar. The Blue Grass Facility was constructed in 1942-1943 by the Ordnance Department as an ammunition storage facility. The two installations were merged in 1964 and redesignated in 1977 as a combined depot activity. There are no Category I or II historic properties on the Lexington-Blue Grass Depot Activity. The Deputy Commander's quarters (Building 29) at the Blue Grass Facility built c. 1811, is a Category III historic property because of its early association with the area and its well portioned, simply detailed design, and because it remains largely intact. Buildings 140, 141, and the Administration building (Building 1) at the Lexington Facility are also Category III historic properties. The three are architecturally interesting and highly intact works of World War II era construction.

Download or read book An Archeological Overview and Management Plan for the Savanna Army Depot Activity, Jo Davies and Carroll Counties, Illinois written by B. Stafford and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of a general program in the Savanna Army Depot Activity's historic preservation planning, this report has been prepared documenting both the known and potential archeological resources which exist within the facility boundaries. Five prehistoric sites are known and reported, and 43 potential historic sites have been identified. No systematic survey has been conducted on the facility. In compliance with draft Army regulations AR 420, it is recommended that preliminary archival and field research be initiated for the historic sites which possess physical integrity, and that surveys be conducted on those areas not currently impacted by construction. Cultural resources should be located, recorded, evaluated, and assessment of eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places be made for appropriate and significant sites. Archeological invention data, together with historic architectural information, would then serve to help develop a facility historic preservation plan. (Author).

Download or read book An Archeological Overview and Management Plan for the Letterkenny Army Depot written by C. A. Hay and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This archeological overview and management plan provides a tool which can be used by DARCOM and decision-makers at Letterkenny Army Depot (LEAD) to assist in complying with regulations and procedures relating to historic preservation Technical Manual, Technical Note, Resources Management, Army Regulation. This document summarizes data relating to the area's environmental history; cultural chronology; historic and modern ground disturbances; previous archeological surveys; presently identified archeological resources; known artifact, ecofact, and/or documentary collections relating to archeological resources; potentially identifiable but not presently recorded archeological resources; significant archeological resources; locational data of known archeological resources; and locational data of potential archeological resources. Archeological field surveys on the LEAD facility recorded three prehistoric archeological sites and three historic period archeological sites. Documentary resources suggest that there are at least 345 potential historic period archeological sites. While large portions of the facility have been disturbed by development activities, there are intermittent areas which have not been disturbed or which have been disturbed only minimally. These areas may potentially yield significant archeological cultural resources which have not yet been recorded. The physical integrity of the potential site is unknown.

Book Synopsis An Archeological Overview and Management Plan for the Anniston Army Depot, Calhoun County, Alabama by : David H. Dye
Download or read book An Archeological Overview and Management Plan for the Anniston Army Depot, Calhoun County, Alabama written by David H. Dye and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Anniston Army Depot, located in east central Alabama, is comprised of 15,214 acres. The Depot is a government-owned operation under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Army Depot System Command (DESCOM, a DARCOM sub-command). The facility occupies well drained upland terrain composed of rolling land, low hills, and valleys within the Ridge and Valley province of the Appalachian Highlands. A review of the known and potential archeological resources of the Depot indicates that there is little likelihood that significant prehistoric or historic materials will be found in the higher elevations and within the strongly acid soils, but may be associated with some of the lower river terraces. There have been no previous archeological surveys on the facility. It is recommended that more intensive archival and archeological field inventory be completed for the facility, for the development of any needed historic preservation plan, or any ground-disturbing project-specific compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act and related statutes. Originator-supplied keywords include: Archeological management, Army installation management, and Environmental assessment.

Download or read book An Archeological Overview and Management Plan for the Tobyhanna Army Depot written by Conran A. Hay and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document provides a tool which can be used by DARCOM and decision-makers at Tobyhanna Army Depot (TOAD), PA to assist in complying with regulations and procedures relating to historic preservation (Technical Manual 5-801-1, Technical Note No. 78-17, Resources Management 32 CPR 650.18-650.193, Army Regulation 420-40; 36 CFR 800). It summarizes data relating to the area's environmental history; cultural chronology; historic and modern ground disturbances; previous archeological surveys, etc. No significant archeological remains are recorded at TOAD. While extensive land disturbance has been defined for several areas at TOAD, two areas, the vicinity of Oakes Swamp and the Passion Recreation Area, are only minimally disturbed and may yield archeological resources. Remnants of the original Tobyhanna Military Reservation buildings may still exist in TOAD's GDA-1 and remnants of a structure associated within the Dodge, Meggs and Dodge Co. may still exist in TOAD's GDA-6. Recommendations for archeological survey include: undisturbed areas near marshland and streams to identify possible archeological resources and areas near future development projects to document inferred land disturbance. Informing personnel of DARCOM's historic preservation responsibilities is also recommended.
Book Synopsis An Archeological Overview and Management Plan for the Red River Army Depot, Bowie County, Texas by : Lorraine Heartfield
Download or read book An Archeological Overview and Management Plan for the Red River Army Depot, Bowie County, Texas written by Lorraine Heartfield and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Red River Army Depot is located in Bowie County, northeast Texas, and contains just over 19,000 acres. As an installation of the U.S. Army DARCOM command, the Depot is a steward of public lands with the responsibility for the management of all cultural resources on its property. A review of existing data concerning the physical setting and the cultural environment of the area, including previous archeological investigations, has revealed that the facility contains known prehistoric cultural resources (two sites) and has a very high potential for presently unrecorded historic sites (239 potential historic resources). Archival research has documented the presence of numerous farmsteads and several cemeteries on the Depot property. For general compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act and Army Regulation AR 420-40, and in order to assure that the Depot's on-going silviculture program and the proposed future oil and gas exploration leasing and facility expansion are in compliance with Section 106 of that Act, it is recommended that the Red River Army Depot develop a facility Historic Preservation Plan as a long-term goal. Such a plan should be based on a field inventory of the archeological resources retained on the facility. The cost of such a inventory and evaluation program is presented in this report. Originator-supplied key words include: Archeological management, Army installation management, Environmental assessment, Cultural resources management, Northeast Texas prehistory, North Texas history, Northeast Texas paleoenvironments.
