Book Synopsis Evaluating Criteria for Adapting HOV Lanes to HOT Lanes by :
Download or read book Evaluating Criteria for Adapting HOV Lanes to HOT Lanes written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes research sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to develop a decision-support tool to aid in evaluating key issues related to converting a high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane to a high-occupancy/toll (HOT) lane. The tool includes three broad categories of factors to consider, including facility considerations, performance considerations, and institutional considerations. Finally, the research incorporates simple trade-off tools to allow TxDOT and local entities to assemble all relevant factors into an analysis to aid decision makers in evaluating the available options. The analysis tool was developed in Visual Basic.Net®. the program is called the High-Occupancy/Toll STrategic Analysis Rating Tool (HOT START), and it is designed to be easily tailored to local needs. The report also provides an application of the tool to a hypothetical freeway.

Download or read book Preferential Lane Treatments for High-occupancy Vehicles written by Charles A. Fuhs and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1993 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to transportation planners, highway engineers, environmental personnel, highway design engineers, transit planners, highway administrators, and others concerned with the planning, design, and operational features of preferential high- occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes on highways. Information is provided on the current and proposed state of the practice in North America. This synthesis describes the state of the art with respect to preferential treatment for HOVs on highways. This report of the Transportation Research Board provides information on long-distance facilities, such as barrier-separated, concurrent-flow (separated and nonseparated), and contraflow facilities, as well as on short-distance facilities, such as queue by-pass lanes. Planning, design, and operational features of each treatment are described. The issues and operating results are described, and specific case studies are included.

Book Synopsis Separation of Vehicles by : Cambridge Systematics
Download or read book Separation of Vehicles written by Cambridge Systematics and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2010 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NCHRP Report 649/NCFRP Report 3: Separation of Vehicles - CMV-Only Lanes presents an extensive compendium of information about CMV-only lanes and examines major issues and concepts that should be understood in developing new applications of CMV-only lane concepts as a potential method for both easing congestion and reducing the number of traffic accidents on highways. Appendices to this report, including an annotated literature review, performance evaluation criteria, benefits monetization factors and unit costs, and net present value calculations for benefit-cost analysis, are available on the TRB website. This report and the supplemental information can be used by public agencies that may be considering CMV-only lane concepts in corridor studies or other planning applications. The report provides data such agencies can use to support their own evaluations of CMV-only lane projects.

Download or read book Fort Worth HOV System Study written by Timothy J. Lomax and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report summarizes the experience with HOV lanes and support facilities from Houston, Dallas, and other U.S. cities, and the relevance to issues in Fort Worth. The information is compiled from other published research efforts and presents guidelines for the implementation of HOV lanes in Fort Worth. Several successful HOV treatments in Houston and Dallas constitute a database from which to derive recommendations regarding the potential for HOV lanes in Fort Worth. These include planning, design, and operational features, as well as institutional issues that are key to successful implementation.

Book Synopsis Traveler Response to Transportation System Changes by :
Download or read book Traveler Response to Transportation System Changes written by and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2003 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The third edition Traveler Response to Transportation System Changes Handbook provides comprehensive information on travel demand effects of alternative urban transportation policies, operating approaches and systems, and built environment options, by building upon, expanding, and selectively replacing the earlier editions to provide a contemporary assessment of the experience and insights gained from the application and analysis of various system changes and alternatives. The focus is on aiding transportation, transit, and land use planners in their conduct of travel demand and related analyses, and to inform elected officials, administrators, operators, designers, and the general public as well. The Traveler Response to Transportation System Changes Handbook consists of the Chapter 1 introductory materials and 15 stand-alone published topic area chapters. Each topic area chapter provides traveler response findings including supportive information and interpretation, and also includes case studies and a bibliography consisting of the references utilized as sources. Please note that Chapters 4, 7, and 8 have been deferred for a future TCRP project effort. The Handbook findings derive primarily from reported results and analyses of real-world transportation system and policy applications and trials. Experimental or quasi-experimental empirical data have been the information source of choice. Other empirical data derivations and simple accounts of outcomes have been employed as necessary. Forecasts and other estimates derived from travel demand model applications and similar techniques have been used, but on a very selective basis; mostly for augmenting the empirical data where gaps exist, and for providing additional insights and context. TCRP Report 95: Traveler Response to Transportation System Changes Handbook will be of interest to transit, transportation, and land use planning practitioners; transportation engineers; land developers, employers, and school administrators; researchers and educators; and professionals across a broad spectrum of transportation and planning; metropolitan planning organizations; and local, state, and federal government agencies."--taken from publisher web site.

Download or read book Evaluation of Preferential Lanes for HOV's at Metered Ramps written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Project was initiated to evaluate the concept of Preferential Treatment for High Occupancy Vehicles (PTHOV) at metered ramps. The corridor selected was the Golden State Freeway (I-5) Corridor between Route I-10 and State Route 170 in the Los Angeles area. Included in the study was an analysis of all collected data, (Before, After and Control Section Elements) in determining the effectiveness of the preferential bypass lanes. On 13 of the 47 metered freeway on-ramps, bypass lanes were provided for buses and carpools with two or more occupants.
