Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We consider synchronous random access systems with noisy transmission channels. We model the channel noise as two types of erroneous feedbacks observed by the users. Specifically, with some probabilities, a successful channel slot and an empty channel slot can be seen as collision slots. For such systems, we analyze the stability conditions of a random access algorithm, both in its full sensing and limited sensing versions. We exhibit the superior resistance of the algorithm to the above feedback errors.

Book Synopsis Network Information Theory by : Abbas El Gamal
Download or read book Network Information Theory written by Abbas El Gamal and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-12-08 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive treatment of network information theory and its applications provides the first unified coverage of both classical and recent results. With an approach that balances the introduction of new models and new coding techniques, readers are guided through Shannon's point-to-point information theory, single-hop networks, multihop networks, and extensions to distributed computing, secrecy, wireless communication, and networking. Elementary mathematical tools and techniques are used throughout, requiring only basic knowledge of probability, whilst unified proofs of coding theorems are based on a few simple lemmas, making the text accessible to newcomers. Key topics covered include successive cancellation and superposition coding, MIMO wireless communication, network coding, and cooperative relaying. Also covered are feedback and interactive communication, capacity approximations and scaling laws, and asynchronous and random access channels. This book is ideal for use in the classroom, for self-study, and as a reference for researchers and engineers in industry and academia.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the 3rd International Conference on Wired/Wireless Internet C- munications (WWIC). After a successful start in Las Vegas and a selective c- ference in Germany, this year’s WWIC demonstrated the event’s maturity. The conference was supported by several sponsors, both international and local, and became the o?cial venue for COST Action 290. That said, WWIC has now been established as a top-quality conference to promote research on the convergence of wired and wireless networks. This year we received 117 submissions, which allowed us to organize an - citing program with excellent research results, but required more e?ort from the 54 members of the international Program Committee and the 51 additional reviewers. For each of the 117 submitted papers we asked three independent - viewers to provide their evaluation. Based on an online ballot phase and a TPC meeting organized in Colmar (France), we selected 34 high-quality papers for presentation at the conference. Thus, the acceptance rate for this year was 29%.

Book Synopsis Random Access Algorithms for Multiuser Computer Communication Networks by : P. Papantoni-Kazakos
Download or read book Random Access Algorithms for Multiuser Computer Communication Networks written by P. Papantoni-Kazakos and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many communication applications with time constraints (e.g., transmission of packetized voice messages), a critical performance measure is the percentage of messages which are transmitted within a given amount of time after their generation at the transmitting station. In this talk we present a random access algorithm (RAA) suitable for time-constrained applications. Performance analysis demonstrates that significant message delay improvement is attained, at the expense of minimal traffic loss. We also consider the case of noisy channels. The noise effect appears at erroneously observed channel feedback. Error sensitivity analysis shows that the proposed random access algorithm is insensitive to feedback channel errors. Window Random Access Algorithms (RAAs) are considered next. These algorithms constitute an important subclass of Multiple Access Algorithms (MAAs); they are distributive and they attain high throughput and low delays by controlling the number of simultaneously transmitting users.
