Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is called ‘An Agony Continued’ because it was simply that: an agony. It was an agony which commenced at the end of the 1960s and as the new decade of the 80s arrived, so the pain, the grief, the loss and the economic destruction of Northern Ireland continued. Little did any of us know at the time, but it was to do so for almost a further two decades. Between January 1980 and December 1989, around 1,000 people died; many were soldiers and policemen; some were Prison Officers; some were paramilitaries; and some were innocent civilians. The Provisional IRA (PIRA) and their slightly more psychopathic cousins in the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA) would continue to kill innocent civilians by the score during this decade. Across the sectarian divide the Ulster Freedom Fighters (UFF) and the equally vicious Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) would continue to slaughter Catholics in streets, in pubs and in restaurants. This book will look at the period which encompassed the 48 months of 1980 and 1983. It was a near half-decade which saw the Hyde Park and Regent’s Park massacre of soldiers and horses from the Blues and Royals and the cowardly bombing of the Royal Green Jackets’ band. It further witnessed the murder of 18 people by the INLA at a disco held in the Droppin’ Well in Ballykelly and also the death of the leader of the Shankill Butchers: Lenny Murphy. The years under study include the 1981 deaths of ten Republican paramilitaries who starved themselves to death in protest against the loss of their status as ‘political prisoners'. As ever, this book pulls no punches in its absolute detestation of both Republican and Loyalist paramilitaries. This book continues Ken Wharton's epic journey through the Troubles in Northern Ireland, viewed primarily through the eyes of the British Army squaddies on the ground.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: St. Peter grants Michelangelo a vacation request, allowing him to travel to the twentieth century to view art. Not only does Michelangelo want to see what artists have been creating after his death but he also desires confirmation that his own work is remembered. As Michelangelo roams about New York City he meets a variety of people who attempt to help him make sense of modern sculpture, painting and architecture. Michelangelo compares everything he sees to specific works he created throughout his life. He finally meets Vinnie, a tough city boy, who agrees to help with his journey. Trying to convince contemporary society what 'real art' is becomes infuriating as Michelangelo holds amusing discussions about enlarged, abstract geometric shapes, gigantic statues rising out of the river, graffiti, tattoos, and more which he vehemently contends cannot be art. His conversations reflect his historical interactions with political figures who commissioned art, his family and other noteworthy artists. Time is running out as St. Peter has allowed Michelangelo to spend only three weeks in the twentieth century. Michelangelo's frustration mounts as he struggles to comprehend the modern world and educate people on the art of the past.

Book excerpt: By November, 1942, the empire of Adolf Hitler had reached its zenith. It stretched from North Africa to the Arctic, from the English Channel to Stalingrad deep inside the Russian interior. The German Army seemed invincible, but then in a matter of only five days, from 19th to 23rd November, 1942, the seemingly impossible happened. During a massive Russian counter-offensive involving over a million men, 1,560 tanks, 16,261 field-guns and mortars and 1,327 aircraft, not only were two Rumanian armies wiped off the Axis order of battle, but more decisively the "crack" German 6th Army, under the command of General Friedrich Paulus, was encircled at Stalingrad. Despite being cut off from the ramainder of the Eastern Front in a huge cauldron (Der Kessel), the 269,000 troops of the 6th army continued to resist against impossible odds for 72 blood-soaked days. Devoid of adequate winter clothing, enduring temperatures of minus 35 degrees centigrade on a bare, blizzard-swept steppe, with nothing to eat but scraps of bread and watery soup, the doomed army suffered an infinity of agonies including frostbite, dysentery and typhus. While they slowly froze and starved to death they were constantly pounded by Russian artillery and bomber sorties. When the 6th Army finally surrendered on 2nd February, 1943, only 91,000 of the original force remained alive to be herded into Siberian prison camps. Surrendering to the Russians, however, proved to be only an alternative way of dying, for only 5,000 survived the captivity to see Germany again. The author has drawn on German and Russian sources to write this commemoration of the battle which broke the back of the Germany Army and turned the tide of the war in the Allies' favour. This book aims to give a balanced account of Stalingrad from both the German and the Russian perspectives.

It wasn't his friends, girls or even sports that came between us- it was me. Tired of being in the friend zone, I finally made a move. Turns out it was the wrong one. Cooper walked away to play his first year of professional football and left me behind with a broken heart. Cooper It's always been her. Even before I really knew what love was, Reese Latham was by my side, making me swear we'd be best friends forever. And we were... until one night changed everything. I knew how she felt because I felt it too, but I pushed her away to save our friendship. The longer we're apart, the more I realize she's not only my best friend, Reese is the love of my life. I was kidding myself thinking I could let her go because now I know that living without her is the worst kind of agony.

Book excerpt: The fact that governments lie is generally accepted today, but World War I was the first global conflict in which millions of young men were sacrificed for hidden causes. They did not die to save civilization; they were killed for profit and in the hopes of establishing a one-world government. By 1917, America had been thrust into the war by a President who promised to stay out of the conflict. But the real power behind the war consisted of the bankers, the financiers, and the politicians, referred to, in this book, as The Secret Elite. Scouring government papers on both sides of the Atlantic, memoirs that avoided the censor's pen, speeches made in Congress and Parliament, major newspapers of the time, and other sources, Prolonging the Agony maintains that the war was deliberately and unnecessarily prolonged and that the gross lies ingrained in modern "histories" still circulate because governments refuse citizens the truth. Featured in this book are shocking accounts of the alleged Belgian "outrages," the sinking of the Lusitania, the manipulation of votes for Herbert Hoover, Lord Kitchener's death, and American and British zionists in cahoots with Rothschild's manipulated Balfour Declaration. The proof is here in a fully documented exposé—a real history of the world at war.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook is designed to provide authoritative information to the psychologist working in primary-care settings and to those seeking to learn about clinical issues in such settings. Scholarly and at the same time practical, this volume offers both the clinician and the researcher a wide-ranging look at the contexts in which psychological services become of paramount importance to the health of the patient. The handbook will cover the prevalent psychological conditions in the primary-care setting--depression, anxiety, somatization, eating disorders, and alcoholism; illnesses in which psychological disorders play a major role, such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, pain management, headache, asthma, low back pain, sleep disorders, among others; and issues of concern to psychologists treating children (ADHD, disciplinary problems, etc.), treating women (abuse, infertility, menopause, sexual dysfunction), treating men (workaholism, alcoholism, sexual dysfunction), and treating the older patient (death and dying, cognitive impairment, late life depression). Other important topics include psychological side effects of common medications, resistance to treatment, spiritual concerns in the treatment of patients, cultural differences in healing, suicide, AIDS, prevention of disease, and many others. Leonard Haas is a noted authority in the area of primary-care psychology and has recruited expert contributors for the 41 chapters and two appendices that make up this definitive handbook for a growing and important subspecialty in clinical psychology. The work may also be used in graduate courses in health psychology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In every act of one who lives in the Divine Volition he pronounces the Fiat there and forms of it so many divine lives. How he gives himself into the power of the creature and lets her do that which she wants with him. Difference that passes between one who lives in him and between one who is resigned. I am always between the arms of the divine Fiat, and, oh, how I feel the need of his life, that breathes, beats, circulates in my poor soul! Without him I feel that all dies for me, the light dies, sanctity, strength, even heaven itself, as if it might not belong to me anymore. Instead as I feel his life, all rearises in me. The light re-arises with its beauty that vivifies, purifies and sanctifies. My own Jesus re-arises with all his works. Heaven re-arises which the holy Volition encloses within my soul as within a sanctuary in order to make it all mine. So that if I live in his Will everything is mine and nothing should be missing for me.
