Book excerpt: Des éléments de structures travaillant à haute température, comme le réacteur à neutrons rapides Super-Phénix sont soumis à des sollicitations de fatigue lors des transitoires de fonctionnement et de fluage en régime stabilisé. Ces structures peuvent contenir des défauts, en particulier dans les joints soudés, à partir desquels des fissures sont susceptibles d’amorcer. Cette étude se propose de déterminer les conditions d’amorçage et de propagation d’une fissure de fluage dans un joint soudé d’acier inoxydable austénitique représentatif de la cuve interne du réacteur, à partir d’un défaut initial artificiel créé dans une éprouvette de mécanique de la rupture. Plusieurs positions de défaut par rapport au joint soudé sont étudiées et les résultats sont comparés à ceux du métal de base. Les éprouvettes rompues sont examinées par fractographie et micrographie pour observer les mécanismes d’endommagement et de fissuration dans les joints soudé. Les essais d’amorçage et de propagation de fissures de fluage sont réalisés à charge constante, aux températures de 600°C et 650°C .Une relation entre le temps à l’amorçage ti et le paramètre C*ex , évalué à partir des données expérimentales, est obtenue :ti. c*ex 0.78= constante ; elle est valable dans le domaine de température étudié, quelle que soit la position du défaut initial. Cette relation permet la prévision du temps à l’amorçage en calculant C* analytiquement à partir des lois de comportement du métal de base. Aucune relation n’à pu être établie entre la vitesse de propagation et un paramètre mécanique. Les résultats obtenus sur le joint soudé ne dépendent pas de la position et de l’orientation du défaut initial par rapport au cordon de soudure et se situent dans la bande de dispersion du métal de base ; en effet les éprouvettes sont composées du joint soudé et des tôles adjacentes et le comportement mécanique global est peu affecté par la présence du métal déposé. La rupture présente un caractère intergranulaire dans le métal de base et dans la zone affectée thermiquement et inter dendritique dans le métal déposé. Les observations micrographiques du cheminement de la fissure dans le joint soudé, montrent une localisation préférentielle de l’endommagement et de la rupture par fluage dans le métal déposé proche de la ligne de fusion : la rupture se produit aux interfaces des phases ferrite et austénite. Une meilleure connaissance des lois de comportement des matériaux étudiés (métal de base et métal déposé) devrait améliorer la prévision du temps à l’amorçage par une approche globale simplifiée.
