Book Synopsis Kelvin's Zero by : Sead Mahmutefendi?
Download or read book Kelvin's Zero written by Sead Mahmutefendi? and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-03-29 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A content of this novel is simple. Ida Alagar, the main character of the novel, is locked in a lift in one of the mansions in Milano, where she works as a house servant. A married couple Sforza, the owners of this three-storey Taj Mahal, went to America for one months and Idas chances of survival are equal to Kelvins zero, the absolute zero, when even atomic movement stops. Twenty three year old incarcerated Ida remembers her past. There is a string of effective episodes: childhood, fathers death, a loss of virginity. This claustrophobic novel, written in 1987, symbolically forecast bloody reality of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Bosnian-Herzegovina lift is still stuck between a lower and upper floor. And contemporary reality of Bosnia and Herzegovina is more fantastic than the most fantastic phantasy, as Mahmutefendic said, borrowing the expression from Dostoyevsky.

Book Synopsis The Big Society by : Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Public Administration Select Committee
Download or read book The Big Society written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Public Administration Select Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2011-12-14 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report, which builds on previous reports by PASC, warns that the Big Society project is hampered by the lack of a clear implementation plan, leading to public confusion about the policy agenda, eighteen months into this administration. PASC has yet to see how the government will engage these charities and voluntary groups who wish to do so to deliver public services: the 'little society' rather than big business and 'Tesco' charities. Government must address the barriers such bodies experience in the contracting and commissioning system, which means developing a plan to address roles, tasks, responsibilities and skills in Whitehall departments. PASC concludes there are two major practical steps Government must take. Firstly they must create a single Big Society Minister, who has a cross-cutting brief, to help other Ministers to drive through this agenda once they begin reporting progress against the aims of Open Public Services White Paper, from April 2012. Secondly they need to implement an impact assessment, to be applied to every Government policy, statutory instrument, and new Bill, which answers the simple question: "what substantively will this do to build social capital, people power, and social entrepreneurs?" PASC says early examples in practice like the Work Programme have left service providers such as the charitable sector - who would play a major role in the Big Society - with serious reservations. The danger is that big contractors and the largest charities continue to dominate at the expense of small and local providers. EU contracting rules need to be revised and smaller providers should be consulted on the legislative and bureaucratic barriers. There needs to be a cultural shift in Whitehall departments

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Estonian proverb says, “If the bread in the oven is a failure, you lose a week; if the harvest is a failure, you lose a year, but if a marriage is a failure, you lose a life. ‘For better for worse’ is a ubiquitous marriage vow expression. But the ultimate question is: does true love truly conquer all? Kelvin and Anne were a happily married couple – having fallen in love during their university days. Life was rosy and the colours of their rainbow shone ever brightly…until life threw them a number of curves that eventually bursts their bubble of happiness. Kelvin lost his writing job at a major publishing house as a result of his unyielding scruples – leaving Anne, a banker, to shoulder the family responsibilities, including caring for their young son. Pretty soon the financial strain became more than she could handle, as her moralist husband failed to secure another job. The emotional and psychological effects of their dire situation, slowly began to eat at the fabric of their union and eventually tore the once-loving couple apart. A demanding job, an overbearing superior, her perceived nonchalant attitude of Kelvin, towards their plight, and the lure of a luxurious life by another man, eventually compelled Anne to walk out of her marriage and into an illicit affair. But she soon learnt the reality of the adage: all that glitters isn’t gold. Meanwhile Kelvin, engulfed by ineffable feelings of rejection and abandonment found himself in a very dark place. Haunted by an unrelenting sense of failure, he spiraled into depression, prompting him to commit suicide… Limes and Lemonades is a powerful and poignant story about love, lust, power, and betrayal. Readers will definitely be thrilled from the very first page to the last sentence

When Detective Nick Fourcade enters the home of Genevieve Gauthier outside the sleepy town of Bayou Breaux, Louisiana, the bloody crime scene that awaits him is both the most brutal and the most confusing he's ever seen. Genevieve's seven-year-old son, KJ, has been murdered by an alleged intruder, yet Genevieve is alive and well. Meanwhile, Nick's wife, Detective Annie Broussard, sits with the grieving Genevieve. A mother herself, Annie understands the devastation this woman is going through, but as a detective she's troubled: Who would murder a child and leave the only witness behind? When KJ's sometimes babysitter, twelve-year-old Nora Florette, is reported missing the very next day, the town fears a maniac is preying on their children. With pressure mounting from a tough, no-nonsense new sheriff, the media, and the parents of Bayou Breaux, Nick and Annie dig deep into the dual mysteries. Is someone from Genevieve's past or present responsible for the death of her son? Is Nora a victim, or something worse? Then everything changes when Genevieve’s past as a convicted criminal comes to light. Could she have something to do with the disappearance of Nora, or is the troubled teen the key to the murder? How far will Nick and Annie have to go to uncover the dark truth of the boy?
