Book Synopsis Kierkegaard's Writings, XI, Volume 11 by : Søren Kierkegaard
Download or read book Kierkegaard's Writings, XI, Volume 11 written by Søren Kierkegaard and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2013-04-21 with total page 801 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stages on Life's Way, the sequel to Either/Or, is an intensely poetic example of Kierkegaard's vision of the three stages, or spheres, of existence: the esthetic, the ethical, and the religious. With characteristic love for mystification, he presents the work as a bundle of documents fallen by chance into the hands of "Hilarius Bookbinder," who prepared them for printing. The book begins with a banquet scene patterned on Plato's Symposium. (George Brandes maintained that "one must recognize with amazement that it holds its own in this comparison.") Next is a discourse by "Judge William" in praise of marriage "in answer to objections." The remainder of the volume, almost two-thirds of the whole, is the diary of a young man, discovered by "Frater Taciturnus," who was deeply in love but felt compelled to break his engagement. The work closes with a letter to the reader from Taciturnus on the three "existence-spheres" represented by the three parts of the book. Stages on Life's Way not only repeats themes, characters, and pseudonymous authors of the earlier works but also goes beyond them and points to further development of central ideas in Concluding Unscientific Postscript. ?
Book Synopsis Life Along the Way by : Donna Lewis Abrams
Download or read book Life Along the Way written by Donna Lewis Abrams and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2017-05-04 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life Along the Way is a collection of insights the Lord opened up to me as I walked with Him daily. I love reading the scriptures. I believe the Holy Spirit speaks to us about Jesus through the scriptures. If you want to know Him, read them. As I posted excerpts from these writings on Facebook, I received positive feedback. I did not want to face the Lord one day and have to explain to Him why I had taken what He had given me and just buried it in the dirt. (Matthew 25:18). So here it is, Life Along the Way. Whatever is of Him will not return void. Whatever is of me, may He blow away as useless, for it surely is. To God be the glory, for only He can give life.

He challenges readers to study the Bible for themselves and ask the Holy Spirit for direction, and reminds us that there is only one truth, one way, and one life—it comes through one person, Jesus Christ. Jesus can inspire people to grow their own faith rather than live the faith of others. One Way, One Truth, One Life invites readers of Christian and non-Christian faith who have the desire to join in the journey and hear the story of Christ.
Book Synopsis Learning on Life’s Way by : Paul R. Sponheim
Download or read book Learning on Life’s Way written by Paul R. Sponheim and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-08-27 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born into a pack of religiously divided siblings with a devout mother and an agnostic father, Sponheim finds the triad of faith/unfaith/many faiths central in telling the tall tale of God. Through his half-century of teaching and writing, the doctrine of creation becomes decisive for Sponheim, featuring a God who has a "very big operation going in this world." Drawing on such diverse mentors as Soren Kierkegaard, Alfred North Whitehead, and feminist authors, he offers a deeply relational conception of the "tallness," the height, humankind seeks. In his own family he sees God's operation in such diverse worlds as music, science, and athletics. Personally, he has witnessed the saving work of the Creator in such worldly affairs as inner city social change programs, a domestic abuse project, and the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. Without compromising a present-time "ethic of risk," he closes with an eschatological exploration, asking "What future would do, if it were true?" And "Is it true?"
