Book Synopsis Un Appel à la Prière by : Jordanis Joseph
Download or read book Un Appel à la Prière written by Jordanis Joseph and published by Word Alive Press. This book was released on 2019-08-21 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Interpretation Des Heiligen by : Martin Kriele
Download or read book Interpretation Des Heiligen written by Martin Kriele and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 1999 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hermeneutic path involved in the interpretation of law as well as in the interpretation of sacred texts, though peculiar, seems - as Emilio Betti pointed out - to share several things, most importantly the "normative" nature of interpretation. The 1999 issue of the Yearbook "Ars Interpretandi" accounts for the several and disparate relationships between these two important "regional hermeneutics".

Book excerpt: This book is a tribute to Professor de Boer, the well-known Old Testamentarian of Leiden University who held the chair from 1938 till 1978. Not only was he involved in organizational and editorial work (I.S.S.O.T., Peshitta Institute, Vetus Testamentum etc.), but he was also an inspired and inspiring teacher and a subtle exegete of the Hebrew texts in which he was interested. In this volume, originally intended as a message of congratulation for his 80th birthday (June 14, 1990) around twenty of his own lectures and articles are presented here which previously were less accessible, because, for instance, they were written in Dutch. All the collected studies are now published in English apart from two in German and two in French. They cover the whole of his scholarly life, from his inaugural address on "Kingship in Ancient Israel" (1938) to his contribution about Psalm lxxxi 6a, to the "Festschrift for G.W. Ahlstrom" (1984). The volume is concluded with a bibliography comprising all Professor de Boer's publications concerning the Old Testament and related scholarly subjects.

Book Synopsis La Tendresse de Dieu by : Lamartine Petit-Monsieur
Download or read book La Tendresse de Dieu written by Lamartine Petit-Monsieur and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Essays on Pierre Bayle and Religious Controversy by : Walter Rex
Download or read book Essays on Pierre Bayle and Religious Controversy written by Walter Rex and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The solitary and erudite figure of Pierre Bayle occupies a position of particular interest in French letters; we are pleased to recognize in his thought the germ of the ideas which reached their fulfillment in the eighteenth century. His own age does not seem to have been quite ready to receive him. Forced into exile by the Catholics, he was censured and harassed by the Protestants in Holland. It is to be expected that his outspoken enemies would have declared him a danger to religion and morality; yet to his more moderate contemporaries, too, he was sometimes a "problem," and one senses an occasional reserve toward him even in his remaining friends. As for the general public, the Nouvelles de la Republique des lettres may indeed have received the "universal applause" Des Maizeaux said it had, yet there was voluminous criticism also. His marvelous Dictionary, which probably achieved the widest circulation of any of his works during his lifetime, also elicited the most attack, censure and discontent. Moreover, though Bayle had earned fame, he did not have in the eyes of his contemporaries particularly of those in France - the importance which he has for us today. Other figures seemed still grander than he in the closing decades of the seventeenth century: in philosophy and metaphysics, the e normous system of Malebranche, the last significant attempt in France to establish a synthesis of Christianity and reason, attracted far more admiration, or criticism, than Bayle.

Book Synopsis The Politics of Intimacy by : Anna Durnova
Download or read book The Politics of Intimacy written by Anna Durnova and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2018-07-23 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Debates on the end-of-life controversy are complex because they seem to highjack national and cultural traditions. Where previous books have focused on ideological grounds, The Politics of Intimacy explores dying as the site where policies are negotiated and implemented. Intimacy comprises the emotional experience of the end of life and how we acknowledge it—or not—through institutions. This process shows that end-of-life controversy relies on the conflict between the individual and these institutions, a relationship that is the cornerstone of Western liberal democracies. Through interviews with mourners, stakeholders, and medical professionals, examination of media debates in France and the Czech Republic, Durnová shows that liberal institutions, in their attempts to accommodate the emotional experience at the end of life, ultimately fail. She describes this deadlock as the “politics of intimacy,” revealing that political institutions deploy power through collective acknowledgment of individual emotions but fail to maintain this recognition because of this same experience.
