Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered why things happen the way they do? Whether some things are just meant to be? Or what role your free will plays in creating your destiny? These are questions we all ask ourselves, but it's hard to get past conjecture or gut feeling to find any definitive answers. Now, in this ground-breaking book, David Hamilton looks at hard scientific evidence to bring us closer to understanding the balance between the forces of destiny and the power of free will. Exploring new, cutting-edge scientific research into the nature of time, and drawing on fields such as quantum physics, epigenetics, solar cycles and even reports of near-death experiences, David explores how, rather than being a question of one versus the other, destiny and free will can in fact work simultaneously in his fascinating new theory, 'The Tree of Probable Life'. He shows how, ultimately, we create many of the conditions of our own lives and offers powerful yet practical principles that can bring amazing results.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports on an in-depth study of fuzzy time series (FTS) modeling. It reviews and summarizes previous research work in FTS modeling and also provides a brief introduction to other soft-computing techniques, such as artificial neural networks (ANNs), rough sets (RS) and evolutionary computing (EC), focusing on how these techniques can be integrated into different phases of the FTS modeling approach. In particular, the book describes novel methods resulting from the hybridization of FTS modeling approaches with neural networks and particle swarm optimization. It also demonstrates how a new ANN-based model can be successfully applied in the context of predicting Indian summer monsoon rainfall. Thanks to its easy-to-read style and the clear explanations of the models, the book can be used as a concise yet comprehensive reference guide to fuzzy time series modeling, and will be valuable not only for graduate students, but also for researchers and professionals working for academic, business and government organizations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine living in a world that hates you, and becoming aware of this witnessing how that hate hurts your mother daily. At five I held my Ama's tired head and swore an oath, when I get big I will work hard so you won't be so tired. Look through my lens, and see Corporate America exploiting and overexposing my mother to toxic waste, and toxic relationships stressing her native will to protect me from all that she suffered as a child. I invite you to consider my agony and adoring love that inspired this indictment; Corporate America killed my mother! Cancer is not a normal death; it is murder because corporations know their waste is toxic. I provide evidence, beyond a reasonable doubt, that our native maternal relationship was a military target for America to "Kill the Indian save the child." How can a country be so cruel, feel no empathy and deny there was a related American Holocaust? I submit historical evidence that America is a socio-pathic mass murderer. I also charge Corporate America with Child Abuse and Neglect, violating the United Nations Charter on the Human Rights of the Child. The evidence, beyond a reasonable doubt, is the millions of homeless, hungry, sick and under educated children stressed, in the richest country in the world preying "In God we Trust." What is feigned love without justice or freedom? A crime confusing profit with prophet. For example, pediatrician Nadine Burke Harris explains that "the repeated stress of abuse, neglect has real, tangible effects on the development of the brain. This unfolds across a lifetime with triple risk for heart disease and lung cancer." The related Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study "associations childhood maltreatment and later-life health and well-being." Their focus is toxic parenting, mine is a toxic American history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most innovative films ever made, Sam Peckinpah's motion picture The Wild Bunch was released in 1969. From the outset, the film was considered controversial because of its powerful, graphic, and direct depiction of violence, but it was also praised for its lush photography, intricate camera work, and cutting-edge editing. Peckinpah's tale of an ill-fated, aging outlaw gang bound by a code of honor is often regarded as one of the most complex and impactful Westerns in American cinematic history. The issues dealt with in this groundbreaking film -- violence, morality, friendship, and the legacy of American ambition and compromise -- are just as relevant today as when the film first opened. To acknowledge the significance of The Wild Bunch, this collection brings together some of the leading Peckinpah scholars and critics to examine what many consider to be the director's greatest work. The book's nine essays cover an array of topics. Explored are the function of violence in the film and how its depiction is radically different from what is seen in other movies, the background of the film's production, the European response to the film's view of human nature, and the strong sense of the Texas/Mexico milieu surrounding the film's action.

Book excerpt: A never-ending testament of how overpowering negative forces leads to living our greatest potential. Money in the Streets is more than one man’s journey in hard-knocks New York. It’s more than the recounting of risking it all to win. Told with heart and laced with the sentiment of tremendous gratitude, Barry Habib deftly weaves tales of his upbringing to take the reader back in time. From his childhood, where he’d pick up the discarded toys of other children because he had so few of his own to play with on into the sales world, where Habib got creative as a sort-of street vendor, Money in the Streets blends humor and hardship through the incredulous moments of Habib’s life. He wrote this book to answer a compulsion to share what worked for him as he scaled the ladder—creating multiple successful companies, growing into an international speaker, and frequenting major media networks as well as producing various entertainment productions—most notably as the driving force and lead producer of one of the longest-running shows on Broadway (later made into a film): Rock of Ages. Habib offers his life as proof that you can keep going no matter what. He shares some of his most painful memories while also exulting in personal and business triumphs to encourage everyone to aim for the same. Of particular note are the mindset tactics in Money in the Streets that are road-tested and personal practices of Habib, who treats each day as a reason to be thankful. No matter the struggle, whether self-doubt, negativity, loss, stress, or being “stuck” in life, Money in the Streets is a resolution roadmap. An easy read that will play on the reader’s every emotion, this standout work and Habib’s voice are unforgettable. He writes as if you are the only person in the room…because to Habib, you are.

Book excerpt: From the breakout star of Netflix’s Cheer, this motivational guide “will inspire you to aim high and succeed no matter what ‘getting on mat’ means in your life” (Gabi Butler, two-time national cheerleading champion and star of Cheer). In Full Out, “the Bill Belichick of cheerleading” (The Cut) Coach Monica Aldama shares how she built one of the most successful and beloved cheerleading programs in the country. Her uncompromising brand of discipline and consistency goes far beyond the mat—showing how the principles of building a winning team apply to personal goals, the corporate world, parenting, and all aspects of life. There’s a lot of talk these days about shortcuts and life hacks, but what really counts is commitment and integrity, helping your friends, and improving with your teammates. Coach Monica shares deeply personal stories of triumph and tragedy—from divorce and remarriage to her husband, her challenges as a young mother working more than full time, and her strenuous weeks on Dancing with the Stars. She shares surprising behind-the-scenes moments from the Cheer docuseries, and insights gleaned from more than two decades of pushing students to succeed. A true force and inspiration who has captured hearts around the world, Coach Monica “delivers the kind of down-to-earth advice we need to be fearless, make excellence a habit, and to bet on ourselves” (Whitney Cummings, comedian and author of I’m Fine… And Other Lies).
