Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease are serious bowel conditions that affect many people of all ages throughout the world today. This is one man’s account of suffering the debilitating UC for 10 years before undergoing stoma surgery for a permanent ileostomy. Pain, humiliation, loss of dignity and anger were all part of the author’s life prior to being told he would need surgery for a colostomy. Hardly had this begun to sink in before, the operation was changed to a permanent ileostomy leading to further psychological issues. This is an honest account of how Grahame Howard survived the 10 years of UC and coped with the knowledge that stoma surgery was inevitable. Grahame’s Christian faith was the mainstay in his survival and played a big part in his recovery, especially receiving a healing miracle while in hospital. The book is autobiographical in style but also gives the reader tips on what to expect prior to surgery and how to live with a stoma and the many psychological battles attached to this. Grahame says “Life is never easy with bowel conditions and when surgery has to take place in order to survive, it can promote anxiety and frustration as answers are difficult to find.” This book is a ‘Must Read’ for people associated with a stoma but will also encourage people who are undergoing personal life issues. There is a better life out there. It’s a matter of finding it. Book reviews online: PublishedBestsellers website.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The place of women's rights in African American public culture has been an enduring question, one that has long engaged activists, commentators, and scholars. All Bound Up Together explores the roles black women played in their communities' social movements and the consequences of elevating women into positions of visibility and leadership. Martha Jones reveals how, through the nineteenth century, the "woman question" was at the core of movements against slavery and for civil rights. Unlike white women activists, who often created their own institutions separate from men, black women, Jones explains, often organized within already existing institutions--churches, political organizations, mutual aid societies, and schools. Covering three generations of black women activists, Jones demonstrates that their approach was not unanimous or monolithic but changed over time and took a variety of forms, from a woman's right to control her body to her right to vote. Through a far-ranging look at politics, church, and social life, Jones demonstrates how women have helped shape the course of black public culture.

Book excerpt: There is so much to say about a woman who doesnt know the meaning of the word cant. Kimily has the passion to heal, deliver, and set free. God uses this passion to continuously renew her faith, instilling her belief that with Christ all things are possible. Although Kimily has had more than her fair share of obstacles to overcome, she is, what one may call, a Bodacious woman of Faith an individual who quickly arises at the sound of Gods voice, with great conviction. Kimily will not stop short of carrying out her purpose and call in any given season. I dont know if she realizes it, but she has the ability to empower life and prosperity in the life of another in the midst of a mere conversation. This life story is a great testimony of humility, acceptance, grace and love. It is with great zeal that I recommend this book to all readers, young and seasoned. At one time or another, we all will have addictions to overcome. Whether it is drugs, alcohol, sex, or plain negativity, true problems occur when an individual is not willing to face their weaknesses. When weaknesses are not acknowledged and dealt with accordingly, the individual is inevitably suffocated by their own challenges. When reading through the pages of this book, you will witness Kimilys ability to persevere through the miry muck and walk forth in great favor and God given ability. To Kimily Thompson Jenkins, God is our father and He is a fan of your success. Thank you for understanding the process. Youre God Daughter, Absolute (Portia Bryant)

Book excerpt: The Mayor Bulldog Gunny is the story of Ryan Lawrence, an eleven-yearold boy who is crippled by polio, and his reclusive mentor, Captain Jeffery Turner. The novel, set in 1952, is about the struggles caused by polio, but more importantly, the success he achieves over his disease. All the nicknames he has are bestowed by the community farmers in his small town in response to his undauntable spirit and the example he sets for them. Captain Turner, who has lost his childless wife in an auto accident in the 1930s, is enamored of the boy who becomes the grandchild he never had. He teaches the boy about saving his money, about stocks and investing, about race relations, and the basic goodness in all people but more succinctly about being an able and responsible human being. In doing so, the captain takes the boy on a two-week long journey to Mena, Arkansas, to meet a fifty-threeyear- old sergeant who had served under the captain during World War I. Bulldog loved it because his dad had been killed at the end of World War II. Sergeant Grimes, who lost both legs and one arm and who later receives the Medal of Honor that he gives to the boy, is the captain's way of showing the boy the horrors of war and of showing Bulldog that his handicap is actually minor in the larger human scenario. An unsettling segment of the novel has the captain dying while sitting next to his wife's grave, which is on the captain's farm, to be found by the Bulldog. "No vampires, werewolves, or zombies-just a story for adults and children with an end that will restore your faith in mankind."

He shook his head, a satisfied grin on his face. "No. You are Lily." "I'm Summer. You have the wrong person." You utter freak! I could hear my pulse crashing in my ears. How stupid to give him my real name. He continued to stare at me, smiling. It made me feel sick. "You are Lily," he repeated. Before I could blink, he threw his arms forward and grabbed me. I tried to shout, but he clasped his hand over my mouth, muffling my screams. My heart raced. I'm going to die. For months Summer is trapped in a cellar with the man who took her—and three other girls: Rose, Poppy, and Violet. His perfect, pure flowers. His family. Book excerpt: "Burglar Junior Bender may just be our favorite literary P.I."—Entertainment Weekly It’s three days until Christmas and Junior Bender, Hollywood’s fasttalking fixer for the felonious, is up to his ears in shopping mall Santas, Russian mobsters, desperate holiday shoppers, and (’tis the season) murder. The halls are decked, the deck is stacked, and here comes that jolly old elf. Junior Bender, divorced father of one and burglar extraordinaire, finds himself stuck inside the Edgerton Mall, and not just as a last-minute shopper (though he is that too). Edgerton isn’t exactly the epicenter of holiday cheer, despite its two Santas, canned Christmas music, chintzy bows, and festive lights. The mall is a fossil of an industry in decline; many of its stores are closed, and to make matters worse, there is a rampant shoplifting problem. The murderous Russian mobster who owns the place has decided it takes a thief to catch a thief and hires Junior—under threat—to solve the shoplifting problem for him. But Junior’s surveillance operation doesn’t go well: as Christmas Eve approaches, two people are dead and it’s obvious that shoplifting is the least of the mall’s problems. To prevent further deaths, possibly including his own, Junior must confront his dread of Christmas—both present and past.

Book excerpt: To a casual observer, Londoner Alex Hill is every inch the calm and collected executive of a global sportswear company. In reality, she's constantly frantic, with barely enough time to take out the trash. When her demanding mother, a 1960s style icon, has a bad fall and has to move in with her indefinitely, Alex realizes she needs someone more committed than a maid-what she needs is a wife. An ad in the local paper soon produces a young woman who seems both enthusiastic and capable. But something odd is definitely happening behind the scenes of Alex's new, perfectly ordered existence. Someone distinctly male is charming her mother as well as doing all the ironing. He's no one Alex would ordinarily ever notice, never mind date. But now she can't help wondering if her new "wife" could perhaps have husband potential...

Book excerpt: The plot of this thriller arose from the research the author undertook when planning a simulation about a terrorist attack on London. The more he researched, the more the author realised how easy it would be to plant a dirty bomb in a location where it would communicate a message, a message to the people of the Great Britain that they were no longer a world power. It also became obvious that despite intensive planning and preparation, the various organs of government would be faced with an almost insurmountable set of problems if such a bomb was detonated when traffic in London was gridlocked. This is not just another spy thriller about counter-terrorism; it is a wake-up call to all of us!
