Enfin, la dernière partie sera consacrée à la diversification alimentaire du jeune enfant et à l'équilibre des apports nutritionnels dans ce type de régime.

Objectifs : Réaliser un état des lieux des connaissances des sages-femmes en matière d'alimentation végétarienne et végétalienne du nourrisson, et de l'accompagnement qu'elles offraient à leurs patients face à cette demande. Méthode : Il s'agissait d'une étude prospective par questionnaire, descriptive transversale. Le questionnaire s'adressait à toutes les sages-femmes de Nouvelle-Aquitaine et était relayé par le Conseil de l'Ordre des sages-femmes de chaque département. Résultats : 115 réponses ont été analysées. Aucune sage-femme n'avait reçu de formation sur le sujet lors de sa formation initiale. Un manque de connaissances sur les régimes végétariens et végétaliens du nourrisson a été mis en évidence dans la population d'étude. 1 sage-femme sur 7 pensait qu'il était possible d'administrer des boissons végétales en remplacement des PPN. De plus, 1 sage-femme sur 3 pensait qu'il était possible de donner du soja au nourrisson. Conclusion : De ce fait, il semble pertinent de former les sages-femmes à la nutrition végétale du nourrisson, d'autant que de plus en plus de personnes adoptent ces types de régimes.

Tandis que l'Académie de nutrition et de diététique considère qu'une alimentation végétarienne bien conduite est adéquate sur le plan nutritionnel, en France, les professionnels de santé sont plutôt réticents à l'idée de ne pas consommer de viande. Cependant, les études scientifiques montrent que les conséquences d'un régime végétarien sur la santé de l'enfant sont positives, dans le cadre d'un régime équilibré et diversifié. Une enquête de perception réalisée par le biais d'internet auprès de 125 parents végétariens, démontre que la pratique est tout autre et que des erreurs alimentaires apparaissent, plus ou moins graves : substitution du lait maternel ou infantile par des laits végétaux ou d'origine non-bovine, insuffisance d'apports de féculents, fruits, légumes, matières grasses d'origine végétale, fruits oléagineux, légumes secs et oeufs. En conclusion, ce travail est destiné à informer les professionnels de santé sur les recommandations actuelles de la diversification alimentaire et de les sensibiliser sur l'importance de suivre les parents dans leur démarche de diversification alimentaire végétarienne tout en connaissant les nutriments pouvant être en déficit.
