Book Synopsis Kant, Duty and Moral Worth by : Philip Stratton-Lake
Download or read book Kant, Duty and Moral Worth written by Philip Stratton-Lake and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-07-05 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kant, Duty and Moral Worth is a fascinating and original examination of Kant's account of moral worth. The complex debate at the heart of Kant's philosophy is over whether Kant said moral actions have worth only if they are carried out from duty, or whether actions carried out from mixed motives can be good. Philip Stratton-Lake offers a unique account of acting from duty, which utilizes the distinction between primary and secondary motives. He maintains that the moral law should not be understood as a normative moral reason but as playing a transcendental role. Thus a Kantian account of moral worth is one where the virtuous agent may be responsive to concrete particular considerations, whilst preserving an essential role for universal moral principles. Kant, Duty and Moral Worth is a lucid examination of Kant's moral thought that will appeal to Kant scholars and anyone interested in moral theory.

Book Synopsis The Faculties of the Human Mind and the Case of Moral Feeling in Kant’s Philosophy by : Antonino Falduto

This book was released on 2014-04-02 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past few decades a remarkable change occurred in Kant scholarship: the "other" Kant has been discovered, i.e. the one of the doctrine of virtue and the anthropology. Through the rediscovery of Kant's investigations into the empirical and sensuous aspects of knowledge, our understanding of Kant's philosophy has been enriched by an important element that has allowed researchers to correct supposed deficiencies in Kant's work. In addition, further questions concerning the nature of Kant's philosophy itself have been formulated: the more the "other" Kant comes to the fore, the stronger the question concerning the connection between pure philosophy and empirical investigation becomes. The aim of this study is to show that the psychological and anthropological interpretations of Kant's pure philosophy are not convincing and at the same time to illustrate some connections between his critical and anthropological investigations by means of an analysis of the theory of the faculties. Against both a "transcendental psychological" and an "anthropological" reading, the book presents Kant's theory of the faculties as a constitutive part of his critical philosophy and shows that there is a close connection between Kant's pure philosophy and his moral aesthetic.

Download or read book Jaakko Hintikka written by R. Bogdan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this series is to inform both professional philosophers and a larger readership (of social and natural scientists, methodologists, mathematicians, students, teachers, publishers, etc. ) about what is going on, who's who, and who does what in contemporary philosophy and logic. PROFILES is designed to present the research activity and the results of already outstanding personalities and schools and of newly emerging ones in the various fields of philosophy and logic. There are many Festschrift volumes dedicated to various philosophers. There is the celebrated Library of Living Philosophers edited by P. A. Schilpp whose format influenced the present enterprise. Still they can only cover very little of the contemporary philosophical scene. Faced with a tremendous expansion of philosophical information and with an almost frightening division of labor and increasing specialization we need systematic and regular ways of keeping track of what happens in the profession. PROFILES is intended to perform such a function. Each volume is devoted to one or several philosophers whose views and results are presented and discussed. The profiled philosopher(s) will summarize and review his (their) own work in the main fields of significant contribution. This work will be discussed and evaluated by invited contributors. Relevant his to rial and/or biographical data, an up-to-date bibliography with short abstracts of the most important works and, whenever possible, references to significant reviews and discussion will also be included.

Book Synopsis Karl Leonhard Reinhold’s Transcendental Psychology by : Faustino Fabbianelli
Download or read book Karl Leonhard Reinhold’s Transcendental Psychology written by Faustino Fabbianelli and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2016-05-24 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reinhold’s Elementary Philosophy is the first system of transcendental philosophy after Kant. The scholarship of the last years has understood it in different ways: as a model of Grundsatzphilosophie, as a defense of the concept of freedom, as a transformation of philosophy into history of philosophy. The present investigation intends to underline another ‘golden thread’ that runs through the writings of Reinhold from 1784 to 1794: that which sees in the Elementary Philosophy a system of transcendental psychology.
